Akshay Kumar was on an absolute roll in 2012! He started the year with the Super Hit HOUSEFULL 2 which gained him entry into the 100 crore club. He followed it up with the Blockbuster ROWDY RATHORE. Then later in the year, he was associated with a Super Hit that had tremendous appreciation: OH MY GOD. Yes, JOKER was a disaster, but he didn't promote it anyways. KHILADI 786 didn't live up to it's expectations at the ticket window, but it still managed to do decently. It was a truly a solid year for Akki, and many compared it to his great run in 2007, a year where he was delivering one major Hit after another.
2013 has started, and SPECIAL 26 is Akki's first release in the year. But wait! This is a completely different film from him. There's no over-the-top massy comedy. There's no massy masala action scenes where the goons are flying all over the place. There's no massy item songs either. It's a completely different Akshay film.
There are many names associated with SPECIAL 26. Akshay Kumar, Jimmy Shergill, Anupam Kher, Manoj Bajpai, Kajal Agarwal. The director Neeraj Pandey. Almost all of these names are known as being talented.
It was in 2008 when director Neeraj Pandey made a film called A WEDNESDAY, a film that shocked everyone with tremendous appreciation and became a box office success. When people heard about Neeraj directing a film with Akshay, expectations obviously got high, especially when you include the above-mentioned names. The curiosity continued when the theatrical trailer of SPECIAL 26 was released and won a lot of praise.
Let me get to the point: SPECIAL 26 may not seem like it has that much hype. After all, there are no hit songs, and the film has a more class-appealing look rather than the usual Akshay film. But, SPECIAL 26 seems like a content-driven film. I feel that the film will be appreciated, and that is what will help the film gain victory!
As mentioned, SPECIAL 26 won't have a thunderous opening like other Akshay films. The opening will be decent, but below-the-mark for an Akshay film. But, as I've said, I think that the content of the film will help the film reach the winning post. The content is expected to be good because of the director's last film (A WEDNESDAY), the theatrical trailer receiving good feedback, the dialogues catching on good with people (especially the "Asli Power Dil Main Hoti Hain" dialogue). I think that the film will be more liked by the classes rather than the masses.

Opening Day: 7 crores net
Opening weekend: 25 crores net
Lifetime Collections: 75 crores net
Overall Box Office Verdict: Hit
