I'd like to know, what does overseas audience prefer in a film? What elements does it it take for a Hindi film to succeed abroad and attract audience? Also in case of stars, what traits/acts does it take for a Bollywood star to click with overseas audience?

Those of you who are part of overseas audience, please share what you look for in a Bollywood film? What kind of film is most likely to get you excited to watch it theatres?

Does a particular banner also influence your choice of film?

Please everyone (Indian and overseas audience!) share your views.

Often big stars & heart winning trailers attract me to theatres not any productions.

But that might be the case most uncommon places as Big Banners get more screens. But NZ it's based on Star power.

i think they would like it to be more like a "hindi" film than a hollywood wannabe/western wannabe...

i think most NRIs tend to love the traditional colourful family oriented cinema because it kinda makes them nostalgic abt their country and their families back home and retains a connect with their homeland...eg: k3g...(ive noticed tht quite often with NRI families...just an observation..not stereotyping)

but some of the younger NRI audience seem to like movies like Kahaani, EV etc which are more "new age" and acclaimed back home.

its a mixed bag...

And no intelligent audiences won't bullshit about Masala.

It's a subjective matter. Not every literate person would go watch a romantic saga and thinking that's classy and not mindless.

If you call all Romantic/Action/Comedy films intelligent then it's definite that overseas prefers that over art films!!!

box office figures speaks the fact.

And my final view expectation from Bollywood movies and the most important one

ENTERTAINMENT (thanks Simi)
