The film Laila Majnu holds a special place in contemporary Hindi cinema for its raw portrayal of love, longing and heartbreak. Starring Triptii Dimri and Avinash Tiwary, the romantic drama explored the timeless tragedy of star crossed lovers through a modern lens while staying deeply rooted in emotional realism. Over the years, the film has gained cult status, with audiences revisiting its music, performances and poignant moments that continue to resonate long after its release.
Recently, television and film producer Ektaa Kapoor took to her social media handle to share a deeply personal reaction to the film during its narration stage. She revealed that she was overwhelmed with emotion while listening to one particular scene from Laila Majnu and ended up crying for several minutes. Sharing a clip from the film featuring the powerful moment where Laila and Majnu meet for the first time after Laila’s marriage, Ektaa reflected on how rare it is for a narration to affect her so deeply.
In her post, Ektaa wrote,
'So there are only three times in a narration, I have cried once in the first episode of Kyunki when mihir remembers baas bday second in the dirty pictures narration when silk dies and third this scene, I had to stop the narration because I cried so much. Sajid Ali Ali was shocked. I needed five minutes to continue !!!!the scene is still as amazing as it was then when I heard it first.'
She further added,
'You imagine the moment you see your loved one so much that when you see the person you faint and Laila told millions of times.that qais is having a blast in London, but when she sees a thin scrawny version of the man, she loved ..she doesn’t need anyone’s lies. She realises his soul missed her like hers did.'
Ektaa Kapoor’s words struck a chord with fans of the film, many of whom have long praised the emotional depth of that particular sequence. The scene captures the quiet devastation of lost love, where words become unnecessary and emotions speak louder than any dialogue. Triptii Dimri’s portrayal of Laila conveys shock, pain and recognition in a single moment, while Avinash Tiwary’s broken and subdued presence as Qais reflects years of unspoken suffering.
Alice Kaushik called it the 'best movie ever,' while Krystle Dsouza called it her 'favourite film.' On the other hand, Radhikka Madan called the scene her favourite one in the film.
The producer’s reaction also highlights the power of storytelling and narration in shaping a project even before it reaches the screen. For Ektaa Kapoor, who has been part of countless iconic shows and films, such an emotional response underlines just how impactful Laila Majnu’s writing and vision truly were. Her reflection has once again brought attention to the film, reminding audiences why its story continues to linger in hearts long after the final frame.
