Sucide is not a joke and never can be a joke
Contemplation and execution of sucide, must take the victim to a very deep dark abyss, of no return. Unable to communicate ,unable to see a way out, believing there is no option other then to end one's life taking oneself out the equation, of having to deal with the demons one is confronted with.
Of course its never the victim, who is left behind, to cope and deal with the aftermath.
Its the loved ones, friends, acquaintances , colleagues ...who are aghast, shocked , stunned at having to come to terms with the whys, whats and wherefores.
Lifelong punishment, of possible unanswered questions ,blames and self loathing, for having been unable to ascertain that someone close , could not and did not try to seek help
She/ he did/could not seek the support needed in his /her most darkest hour
So I come to today's pontification dear hearts.
Should such a serious issue be used in such a comedic manner, in the name of art
Art for art's sake?
Respect for realism and truism of, what's really out, there effecting many number of people, both victims and their loved ones?
Please take it as a question asked sincerely. I do wonder about such things.
Do we push things too far
Should we be a bit more circumspect?
Respect even
So my beauties if you feel up to it ...ponder ...and...share...

Absolutely darling I totally agree with you. The CV's could have chosen a better way out, they are after all the writers and could have invented a million and one story lines but this story line is not to be played or experimented with.

It is a serious issue and not to be taken lightly.

Annie without going into details have seen what it can do to a person's life up close and personal so i really dont want to pontifiate too much
I would have accepted the attempts as alright if they did not play that god awful background circus music in the background It cut into the moment and it cut into what should have been a turning point in their relationship
CV's no matter how clear and noble your intentions might have been not to pass the message that suicide was a quick way out by making it comedic has just made it worse. You have ended up making a mockery of something that is so terribly painful for a human being to want to end it all that there is nothing to laugh over and thanks to your silly attempts all the RV's got diluted

Issue is was it portrayed and pre-empted rather light heartedly which makes one wonder if this is not insensitively handled when its such a serious concern

Annie!

Nice topic!

As far as IPK goes, I was pretty angry that they showed:

1) A serious issue like suicide in such a comedic way

2) A character as strong as Khushi was shown resorting to suicide! And of all the reasons!
She tolerated all the injustice, emotional torture, her family disowning her, her husband's sometimes cruel and mostly heartbreaking behavior, etc etc...with courage, will power and firm determination.

But she decided to commit suicide based on her assumptions that her husband is out to kill her, based on a stupid TV show?!!!! 😲 😕

I was overall extremely upset over the way they showed Khushi cheerfully writing her will, leaving her piggy bank etc to her family members, chuckling, moving around as if she was planning to go on an adventure backpacking in Europe or something!
She was planning to end her life...where was the seriousness of the situation?

A girl who sacrificed every happiness and her life for her family...suddenly decides to end her life for her husband?! She did not for once think what will happen to her parents, sister after she dies?

The whole premise is preposterous. When Khushi did not break down after the first few weeks of torture starting on her wedding night, how could she break down after such a stupid thing like a TV show?!

Friday's episode was probably one of the worst for me in the history of IPK...everything they showed went against the basic character of Khushi...

Suicide is a terrible thing...a very serious issue...never to be taken lightly...and if it is shown in a TV serial that is so popular, it begs the question - is this seriously the best the CVs could come up with?!

i had a feeling that this topic will b brought up on the forum n i was rite:)
many people i have seen so far r not pleased with the manner sucide was treated n it is understandable... Who minutes b4 killing themselves r thinking about how hot the sun is?
However i felt it was done in a perfect way for two main reasons!

Firstly not sure if u have heard of the recent film vicki donor? It takes the taboo n serious issue of sperm donors n turns it into a 2 hour long comedy that has recieved rave reviews n admired 4 the approach adapted. Of course sucide is much more serious issue but ipkknd has dealt with the concept in a modern n balanced way as it wasnt lyk khushi was giggling, her pain n sadness was pretty evident.

Secondly we claim 2 b a modern n educated audience who can write pages n pages on the butchering ov characters of ipkknd but wasnt 2dai sketched in the childish n short minded way we have claimed 2 b khushis character over the past 3 months? We cudnt exactly expect her 2 formulate sum masterplan 2 get the truth out now cud we?

Obviously this is just my opinion n not me being insensitive as i have personally been with people who have attempted sucide.

The show lost it's "Artistic" tag a while back, I've lost faith in the writing and direction style since Holi, I'll be frank. Post-Holi we've been provided with mediocre, sometimes below average episodes with a few moments of rare IPK genius originality coming through whilst the rest I said is so..so.

This whole suicide track is out context on so many levels.
- a) It is essentially out of character for Khushi
-b) The girl was close to ending her life and they did not even try to properly demonstrate the depth of of her emotions ...

.. As I said nothing about it is "artistic" it was done as a filler AND perhaps poor brainstorming ideas that they thought the best way the MU can come out is if Khushi almost killed herself thinking ASR loves someone else therefore pushing ASR to his limit.

Honestly, I think ALL they cared about was the outcome and the consequence hence, they played little attention on introducing this track (poorly set-up by Kamelesh Khabri) and it seems like wrote anything for the sake of laughs and screen space leading to the ultimate terrace moment we got today.

Sadly, they really didn't look at suicide as a sensitive issue and their purpose was not send out social message it was simply a means for them to reveal the MU to Khushi and nothing more hence it's comic treatment. Harsh to some viewers and portraying the CVS as insensitive.

Khushi is a lovable rogue in so many ways but she could have been cast better in her role leading up to this episode
Was it an unintentional mockery?

Working with suicide attempters, I saw how hopeless they are when they make the decision to end their lives. I have seen a range where some of them are in denial till the last moment and I have seen individuals where basic necessities are frivilous when contemplating suicide. Such a range of emotions CANNOT BE portrayed in a comedic view. I agree that the last few moments before Khushi decided to end it all, you saw the devastation on her face and the reason reflecting in her eyes, BEGGING Arnav to stop her one last time before she does what she hopelessly doesnt want to do.
With that being said and given Khushi's attitude towards life, you have to understand that not all individuals are going to portray their attempt on suicide in a dark manner. Some of them will happily welcome death and some want to end it in one swift motion. It's all the about the circumstances and individual's perspective on various life norms that will help them shape their attitude towards taking their own life.
