'Kahaani' may emerge a 'SUPERHIT'

There were five films released this week and all were total washouts. Akkad Bakkad Bambe Bo, Anjunaa Beach, Love Possible, Say Yes To Love and Zindagi Tere Naam could not found an audience and had most shows cancelled.

Chaar Din Ki Chandni collected a poor 5 crore nett in week one. FLOP

Kahaani had a good first week of around 23 crore nett and was very strong from Monday onwards. The 8th day collections are excellent in metros. The film is a HIT and could well emerge a SUPER HIT on the strength of metros depending on collections over the next week or so.

London Paris New York dropped a huge 85-90% in week two. FLOP

Paan Singh Tomar collected well in week 2 as it picked up around 4 crore nett taking its two week total to 10.50 crore nett. The drop in week two was just 40%.

Balan's Kahaani, released on March 9, is a suspense thriller. The movie tells a story of a pregnant Vidya Bagchi (Vidya Balan), who flies down to Kolkata from London, looking for her missing husband.

With the movie's star cast consisting of mostly Bengali actors, Balan stands out to be the only well-known face in Kahaani. Like most of her other movies, she manages to dominate the screen space with an ease.

The actress, who has been recently honoured with a National Award for her role in The Dirty Pictures, could stand another chance for a nomination of best actress in her recent release.

But, while there is not an inch of doubt in Balan's role in Kahaani's success, one cannot even ignore the script and direction of the movie. Hands down to Sujoy Ghosh, for it is under his direction that the movie's script holds on to the audiences' nerves till the last minute.

The movie, made with a budget of Rs 8 crore, has already recovered its production cost through its first weekend collection. Kahaani collected Rs 88 lakh through paid previews on Thursday. The movie has grossed around Rs 14 crore in box-office in its opening weekend. With no big releases this weekend, Kahaani is expected to gather more crowd at box-office. So far, the film has raked nearly Rs 24.44 cr and is still counting…
