now im not sure if any of you know of him but Rhett Butler is one of the most charming, sensual, complicated antihero hero i've ever come across. i was only 13 when i read Margaret Mitchell's Gone With The Wind but i fell in absolute and irrevocable love with Rhett Butler.

He was never nice, always told Scralett that she wasnt a lady and he was no gentleman. he professed that he was no marrying man and had a well publicised (yet false) relationship with the famous Madam of the town Belle Watling. he was a man of the world, ruthless, clever, and didnt give a damn about what society thought and deemed proper. he had daddy issues which made him reckless. YET he loved Scralett like no one else because he loved her for who she was, she was just like him. she was the other half to his whole. he NEVER told her that he loved for he knew that to do so would mean to hand her a heart to break but he loved her none the less. he loved her therefore he did not shy away from showing her her true face or being rude and a down right bore... because he knew that he loved her because of those things, he didnt need to sugar cote anything. Rhett was some times cruel to Scralett because she didnt reciprocate his love (Scarlett was stupid... but complicated as well which is why i love her too) being cruel was his defence, his way to protect his already breaking heart.

after a long time, after watching Clark Gable do a satisfactory job of it, i have come across a character who has the levels of complexity and raw, unadulterated passion and love that Rhett was capable of. Arnav Singh Raizada is complicated, he loves with an obsessive passion and once he realises he loves you he wont let anything harm you, not even himself. like Rhett he has the tendency to get physical but thats the only reaction one can expect (and a mild one at that) from a man hosting so much energy and passion! there is no other outlet!!! would you rather he rape her and be done with it!? Arnav is complex and has levels beyond comprehension because we dont know what made him so. im not condoning his actions, im just saying that he isnt the only one out there who has issues that need to be resolved, one of the main ones being abandonment. like The Beast, he wants to scare Belle away because he knows such beauty can never fall in love with him, but like Belle Khushi will make him realise that no matter how scary and physical you get im not going anywhere.. (and then they can both pitch Gaston/Shyam off the roof)...

my humblest gratitude to the CVs for creating a character like Arnav Singh Raizada who reminds me of my first ever love Rhett Butler and Barun Sobti who has taken him to a whole new level (Clark Gables got nothing on you)!!!!

Oooh yes! Rhett Butler was that perfect anti-hero! Although I haven't read the book, have seen the movie...and Clark Gable was ultra ultra cool as Rhett. As to whether ASR turns into a character to match Rhett...will have to be seen! Even if today's episode doesn't promise much...hell..."Tomorrow is still another day" 😃

Rhett Butler and Arnav Raizada are not the same people at all.

Arnav's battle is with himself

Rhett Butler's battle was with Scarlett, because of the woman that she was. Scarlett herself was a grey character ... a mixture of woman + innocense + manipulative + practical

He had always loved her to distraction, he could never tell her that because Scarlett was a person who would use that against him... so in order to protect himself from this, he used to be sarcastic. But he was never cruel to her...in fact he had always treated her like a child who wanted the moon.

Yes , yes and yes. I watch beauty and beast as regularly as breathing everyday because it has to be on for my daughter to finish her dinner. I always compare Arnav with Beast and Kushi with Belle. And of course the creep with Gaston(Although Gaston is much handsome and not as creep as this pervert). Waiting for the day when the beast will become handsome prince and sweep Belle of the floor and place that wonderful kiss(which was undone half way through).. till then Keep dreaming.

i dont think they will. first off this is a indian serial where good always wins... and Khushi is spunky but she isnt Scarlett... and they have to show love conquering all,,, i just hope that Anjali who is a carbon copy of Melline will have the same back bone and presence of mind to not believe the rumours of her husbands infidelity with Scarlet and stand by Khushi instead.

interesting post.

I like the points you have made. From the beginning I have seen people compare ASR with Darcy and then with Rochester. I myself saw shades of Heathcliff at some point.

But never thought about the similarities between ASR and Rhett Butler. Though their are similarities..the one's you have mentioned...but i still find plenty of dissimilarities. I cannot compare ASR's love for Khushi with Rhett's love for Scarlett due to the contrast between the two women.

I agree to some extent... but thats what i meant: Arnav is capable of the same love that Rhett has found a place in our hearts for. Rhett was cruel as a reaction to Scarlets obstinate obsession with Ashley (he made her go to the party when she knew she would be spat at, he made a cruel remark which lead her to hurtle down the stairs making her lose her baby, he went away taking Bony with him, if that isnt cruel i dont know what is)

both loved the women in their lives to distraction: while Rhett had no qualms proposing an adult relationship to Scralet Arnav cant do that because Khushi isnt the type and he is fighting his feelings. Rhett ended up marrying her which im sure Arnav will do as well but the reason their reactions are so different is because Khushi loves Arnav back and he has to be cruel to save them both from what he thinks is a bad romance, while Rhett was beating his head against a wall trying for Scralet to see the light which she only saw when it was too late.
