The much-anticipated film adaptation of the hit web series Mirzapur has added two new names to its ensemble. Actor Jitendra Kumar and Bhojpuri cinema star-politician Ravi Kishan have come on board, joining returning cast members Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi and Divyenndu.
According to the source, the roles of Jitendra and Ravi are being kept strictly under wraps. It is unclear whether they will step into the shoes of existing characters from the series or portray fresh additions created for the film. “The mahurat puja for the film took place on Thursday, and both Jitendra and Ravi were present. Their characters are meant to be a surprise for the audience,” a source told HT City.
Pre-production is already underway, with look tests and script readings in progress. “Jitendra and Ravi have joined the prep work. Filming is expected to begin next month,” the source added. When approached for comment, Ravi Kishan declined, while Jitendra Kumar did not respond.
About Mirzapur The Film
The feature film, announced in 2024, will be directed by Gurmmeet Singh and created by Puneet Krishna, the same duo behind the Prime Video series. The movie is slated for a 2026 theatrical release before eventually arriving on an OTT platform. Shweta Tripathi Sharma is also expected to reprise her role as Golu.
Ali Fazal, who plays Guddu Pandit, had earlier hinted in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the story may revisit events from the past. “It has to be back in time because there are like some dead people walking,” he said, when asked about the plot.
Pressed further on whether the project is a prequel, Ali replied, “You will find out. But we are really excited to bring it to the theatres. Peaky Blinders also did that—it wasn’t a one-off or odd choice.”
The Mirzapur franchise, known for its gritty portrayal of crime, politics, and power struggles in eastern Uttar Pradesh, has built a strong fan base since its debut in 2018. With new actors stepping into its already established world, the film is expected to draw significant attention when it goes into production next month.
