As India celebrated its 78th Independence Day, actress Samridhii Shukla, who plays the role of Abhira in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai,shared her heartfelt thoughts on what patriotism means to her, the freedom fighter who inspires her the most, and the message she wants to give to her fans.
Talking about how people see Independence Day today, Samridhii says, “I think for our generation, the way we express patriotism is changing. It’s not always about waving flags or posting on social media – though that’s nice too – but about what we do in our daily life.”
She adds that patriotism can be as simple as following rules and being responsible citizens. “If we respect our country’s rules, keep our surroundings clean, support local businesses, and treat people equally, that is also patriotism. Independence Day is a reminder to ask ourselves, what am I doing for my country today? That’s more important than just showing it for one day,” she explains.

When asked about the freedom fighter who inspires her the most, Samridhii instantly names Rani Lakshmibai. “For me, Rani Lakshmibai has always been the most inspiring. She was so young, yet she fought like a true warrior for her people,” Samridhii shares.
She further adds, “What I love about her story is that she didn’t wait for someone else to protect her land – she took charge herself. It shows that courage is not about size or strength, it’s about your heart and your will to stand for what’s right. As a young woman, that really motivates me to never back down from challenges.”
Ending on a positive note, Samridhii gives a strong message to her fans this Independence Day. “My message is simply to love your country every day, not just on 15th August. Small actions matter – whether it’s following traffic rules, helping someone in need, or not littering. Freedom is not just something we got in 1947; it’s something we have to protect and value every single day. We are the future of this country, so let’s act like it,” she says.
