Uorfi Javed comes out in support of Mrunal Thakur amid backlash over Bipasha Basu comment

In the video, Mrunal, then 19, jokingly asked her Kumkum Bhagya co-star Arjit Taneja if he wanted to marry someone "manly with muscles," suggesting he marry Bipasha Basu. She then claimed, I'm far better than Bipasha. The video has sparked widespread criticism, with many accusing Mrunal of body-shaming.

Mrunal Thakur has since apologized for her past remarks, acknowledging that she was young and didn't understand the impact of her words. Now, Uorfi Javed has come to Mrunal's defense, stating that people often say things they don't mean when they're young and that everyone evolves over time. Uorfi shared that she, too, has said things in the past that she's not proud of anymore, highlighting the importance of growth and self-awareness.

Uorfi Javed showed support for Mrunal Thakur by re-sharing the viral video on her Instagram stories, where Mrunal referred to Bipasha Basu as "manly with muscles" years ago. While defending Mrunal, Uorfi emphasized that people evolve over time and often say things they don't mean when they're young. Uorfi also shared her own experiences of saying things she's not proud of in the past, highlighting the importance of growth and self-awareness.

Defending Mrunal, Uorfi wrote, When we’re young we don’t know anything better, we learn and grow each day. We all have said things in the past to which we don’t agree anymore cause we evolve we change, our morals also change, ideologies too. I’ve said some sh*t in the past interview too which I’m not proud of.

The viral video is from the early days of Mrunal’s career, back when she was a regular on Kumkum Bhagya. In the clip, she’s seen chatting with co-star Arjit Taneja and asks him, Do you want to marry a girl who is manly with muscles? When Arjit replied that he liked a toned physique like Bipasha Basu, Mrunal quipped, Go marry Bipasha then! Mrunal went on to add, “Listen, I am far better than Bipasha, okay!"

Mrunal Thakur’s Apology

Mrunal Thakur apologized after her old comment about Bipasha Basu went viral, saying she was just a 19-year-old teenager at the time who said many silly things in jest that might have unintentionally hurt others. She acknowledged her past words may have caused harm, expressing regret for any offense caused. She apologized for the remarks, and stated, My intent was never to body-shame anyone. It was playful banter in an interview that went too far. But I understand how it came across, and I truly wish I had chosen my words differently, she added.

With time, I have grown to appreciate that beauty comes in every form, and that’s something I truly value now, she added.
