So I'm sure I missed some excellent discussions last night, and some ... well, miserable mayhem through the day - and this topic is almost too late to run into 'analyzing' Friday finale for this week - given the two articles I caught sight of the moment I got online minutes ago - but I haven't read the forum debates yet, so I'll ramble away with my share - because I need to get the bubbling material inside my head out, it's brewed for 24 longs hours now 😆 ... without trying to be influenced, the best I can. Wasn't an episode I'd want to give a pass, specially as we remain painfully misinformed about how many more there are to come 😒

As a heads up - I'm going to talk of yesterday, and next week too now - since we've been forced down with so much food for thought! On that note - Reemz, since you're a mod here,is there a way to make articles post threads read just 'New Article: Spoiler Alert' in the title instead of giving away the news? Maybe is it just me who likes to not know in advance... and kill the fun in speculating instead... I know articles are good publicity for the show, as are promos - but (just in my opinion, no offense anyone) I'd be so much happier with nothing disclosed before the moment it's aired! So if the article threads could read that - I (and any other odd person like me) could give reading that topic a pass? Although I wonder if there's a way to miss news with the 'activity rate' of this forum 😆 Okay, I'm just being a whine here - ignore...

And no, seriously, onto my post now.

Classic SRK, with a twist!

I said this on my first EDT post while watching the episode live - as did many others - the opening scene was classic SRK from DDLJ. And yet, there was a huge difference. Kesar was not confessing his love. He actually asked Gulaal to fall back in love with him. Interestingly, the cinematography of this scene was very well done. No offense to SRK fans, but Neil pulled off the subtleties 10X better. When he laughed off his statement - I swear I was cringing. There was no melodrama to it, not for a second, the laugh was just a rude taste in my mouth... this high moment of candor, and it's only anti climatic peaceful way out. There was such a pang of frustration evoked by his laugh in that moment - I don't remember such a reaction even to the evergreen DDLJ. I almost marched right into the screen and stood between them to tell Gulaal it was not a joke. He meant it. Just like that. But did I need to?

The truth was written all over Gulaal's face. The beauty of Mansi's expression (so well matched with Neil's) held such complexity of extreme emotions - a reflexive blend of incredulity, offence, and only post his laughter, rude awakening. Again, the CV's get an extra mark over DDLJ, by not letting Gulaal even lapse into watery smile over the not so funny joke. She remained boulder hit, and rock faced, and her only dilution was in turning her back to him. Excellent, excellent, excellent! Even in the face of such anti-climatic fall from the peak of confession, the tension was far from dissolved. When urged her, spoke her name once, twice, thrice - the little boy in him, the fearful little boy for whom the ultimate threat once upon a time was watching Gulaal walk away and leave his world - that little boy sneak peaked in his expression, in his gestures, and in his words - jab tu aise chup ho jaati hai to muje chinta hone lagti hai... We all agree that it's been a while since Kesar hit his rock bottom - when he offered to break the DV himself - and ever since, he's only had reason to rise, because the fear of loss no longer exists!

But yesterday - in that one moment, especially in that sentence, his vulnerability of loss was glaring. Breaking the DV was almost easy back at that point, it now seems, as opposed to watching her leave now. And even though Kesar has settled himself logically about the prospect, yesterday, in that scene I saw a glimpse of the CVs trying to show how logical decisions can be the hardest to follow through when the moment truly comes. The way he his remarks about just 2 more months come from him, the ease with which he includes the fact in his statements, almost makes you think he's very prepared - he's cleared his head, and his priority is only being for Gulaal. The other side of the picture he has successfully torn off... but knowing him, can that be true?! I for one had absolutely not seen the anti climatic moment coming. And in retrospect, I'm almost awed by the fact that Kesar's 'reform' had managed to be so convincing, that I was actually beginning to believe his vulnerability was now a variable - in intensity and tolerance. I had almost forgotten the Kesar who had locked himself inside his room and broken down like a lonely child in his first moment of isolation after the DV panchayat ordeal. His control, peace and extreme sanity had blurred and even overwritten to an extent, memory of that side of him. Yesterday broke that perfection - and I'm so glad it did. Kesar has reformed and matured. He has learned to become a giver. But he is still human. And in that status, no amount of maturity can heal a wound before its time. No amount of maturity can keep him from secretly dreaming - so secretly, that for the most part, he manages to remain well oblivious of his minds secret ploys. So when Gulaal in her moment of weakness babbled about her secret dream - it shocked him to find a concurrence. For a moment, he forgot that logic had long rendered this over lap impossible. He forgot his own bidding to self to not dream this dream for her sake. Because here she was, telling him herself - that she wished the very same! Contrary to what I had thought after the Thursday episode and half of the scene, after Friday - I change my take on Kesar hence. He wasn't giving Gulaal the logical answer he knew. He was giving her the answer of his heart. He wasn't so resigned, as he was bemused by what his round of interrogation had revealed. In his incredulity at her confession - at what it implied even if she could not see as much - vanished the resolve of forbidden love, and out came the wish he had thought he could bury out of his own reach! Of course, Gulaal's counter expression in return (the dramatic turn around and her eyes - oh heaven, those eyes were intimidating! and the irony of intimidated eyes being intimidating, aah! - but of course, it snapped him out of his 'thoughtless candor' and craftily (or not so much, lol) he transformed it to a joke. One that without saying so, was not taken in the lighter vein by either in that room.

The play of the mirror in the remainder of the scene was an ace. After a head on collision between the 'real people' the 'reflections' put themselves to the task of making light of the moment, and becoming 'easy peasie' friends again! Another brilliant irony at that. For the number of times we have seen fiction depict a 'reflection' as the eye opener, as the inner atma which challenges a person's facade; here comes this show to reverse the use of that trick! So while the real people have had their showdown moment of reality, the reflections are playing the trick of avoidance and ducking and retaining the precious 'act of convenience'. The two real people stand there, watching their reflections sort out the gore and regain the amicability. Gulaal's expression at Kesar proposing to quote a proverb is stiff wondering what version of googly (as Nur calls it) he will bowl out next - and Kesar 'seeking' her permission is that little fearful boy of a decade ago peaking again, terrified that the damage he's caused in his reckless mood of the moment may have gone beyond repair, and utterly painfully cautious to not further it even by an iota of measure, in his dicey means to undo it. When Gulaal turns around and gives those twisted expressions in the garb of amusement - it is relief washing over at not getting another hard hitting reality check; and the simultaneous awareness that the first one lingers and looms largely between them, over her - but she plays along, because like him, she knows, its the best way to let the moment pass. Or at least pretend so. So when Kesar walks out (wow at his presence of mind to find his way to 'vrat ka khaana' because yes, he's fasting (sigh another flawed call on my part) Gulaal's expression of brief relief dissolves, and the gravity comes right back on. Kesar is no different. Always the one to retrace steps that lead him away from her, he stops in his track to check on her. He knows what he's spoken is the absolute truth - logic or not, straight from the heart. And when he looks at her, its almost as if he's wondering, if that moment back there, her moment of confession - could actually ever grow... could he actually dare to dream the forbidden dream? He doesn't look hopeful to me, but his peace of many days also looks lost. Somewhere, his demon of dilemma has been poked from its forced slumber! [Nur - He's certainly looking like a bulb brighter than we thought, no?! 😆]

Summing up the scene - excellent stuff. Between the two of them, they both know Kesar could never make a joke like this. In a way, it reminded me of their first encounter after he returns. Of the coin toss, and his laughing off on the statement of aadhi imaandaari aadha paap. Whatever anyone else in the room know or not - those two, after not having exchanged one word in writing or person in ten long years know exactly how not a joke that statement on Kesar's part was, even then! This scene, in a similar fashion brings out the truth between them, to their faces! For Kesar, a realization, however dim, that reality may not be so up and armed against his dreams after all. For Gulaal, however much she may chose to distort her comprehension - that the dream within her dream, is a replica of his own! Most interesting was the fact - that Galool did not peak through Gulaal to counter Kesar's little boy surfacing. Thank God! Even her shock and incredulity and tinge of offensive had no walls. When he insists her silence is worrying him, she compels herself to talk back, whatever that ordeal feels like just then. She doesn't push him away, she even plays along with his pretense of moment lightened and past - because. When I was just done watching the scene, I was in two minds about it - the anti climax of Kesar laughing it off was debatable, transiently. But the more I think about it (which I have for a whole day, lol) the better suited it seems. This encounter with reality has served a premonition for both of them - forcing them to genuinely cast away their comfortable live in the moment shield and look at the separation scenario - for real, even if only for a bit! And given news of the showdown we're to witness next week - I suppose, this alarm has been raised, just in time! 👏
Oh and, thumbs up to the BG score for this btw.

----

Because this single scene analysis got sooo long, I'm going to post the next bit below. (: Oh so much to write when it piles up for a day - don't hate me yet! 🤓

GK at meal time.
For all the obvious reasons, I loved this scene. SD teasing Kesar about coming to 'test' the food for his wife's sake - 🤣 reminded me of how Cleopatra allegedly always had people on her payroll who had to 'test' the food made for her at each meal time, to make sure it wasn't poisoned, or otherwise not fit for her diet! Of course, little girl Galool is little boy Kesuda's personal version of Cleopatra the prettiest, with the sharpest nose ever ☺️ not to mention, the crankiest when occasion so demands 😆 I also liked the way Gulaal heartily accepted SD telling her about Kesar testing food for her. It was so natural... like she really was the wife, and him, the husband. Yes, they really are - but I mean, inside of her head where the obnoxious wall exists, sigh! It was just warm, the way she took the remark. And then of course, Kesar's khaane mein namak daalna bhul gaye self invited mockery from the women of the house - he's totally Kanhaa that way, always among the women 😆 - and his expression to SD explaining how this vrat has no salt in food for a happy married life is such a 'you're kidding me ' look - like he's dying to ask her, bichare namak ki kya galti hai 😆 and then his Gulaal kha sakti hai, to main bhi khaa saktu hu! Dude! Like I said on the EDT last night, the Kesar version, from before this improved Kesar ++ version we have seen in recent weeks, was peeping through all the damn scenes! The happy ones, the kiddy ones, the angry ones... and the troubled ones. Kesar was so back to his earthy element - the maturity we've swooned and awed over so many days begun to show rough edges... like hello! Don't forget it's still me! 😆 I'm kinda glad too. Perfection gets monochromatic in the briefest time! Imperfection on the other hand has so many rich shades! Anyway, Gulaal's closing expression at Kesar's silent faces to endure the namak-less food 🤣 Dude, if these two don't deserve each other, made in heaven jodis is totally a myth. 😆

Moving on. To the non-GK interludes.

I suppose mourning over the impending loss of Dushyant's character is overshadowed somewhat by the ending of the show itself being so dubious?! Nonetheless. The scene between Raman and Dushyant was a reflection of what Vasant and Dushyant were like, once. But even more so, I think Dushyant's chance giving gesture is a lot more reflective of Gulaal from a decade ago. I suppose if there is anyone who could believe reform possible even in someone like Raman - it has to be Dushyant. His own journey of reform is obviously an odyssey of impossibility, and belief. The underlying fact that he does miss - or perhaps misunderstands - is that he had a motivation in the form of Gulaal. Perhaps he expects Raman to find that same motivation in himself, Dushyant. Anyway - as we all know, he's misjudged Raman majorly. Being brothers is not always about being alike. So he will learn. The hardest way. But perhaps betrayal at the hands of his brother is truly paying back for his sin in kind. Despite all his reform, and despite all the guilt he has endured for a decade, and continues to - his reform has in fact earned him much respect and love and trust - not to mention has introduced him to his own real person beneath the evil breeding he had received. So in way, his penance has been... well, kindly. So far.

MB's dialog with the family - minus Kesar, a significant absence in this scene, given Dushyant's attempt to clarify with MB because if Kesar had been around then, things might just have been little different, with scope for Kesar cutting Dushyant some slack in benefit of doubt. But not digressing from MB - I think his repeated mention of mujhe hisaab dene ki koi jarurat nahin hai was glaring in our faces! MB may not have 'rediscovered' Vasant in Dushyant, but he totally has given him that trust and stature. And in following his cue, has the rest of the village and the house. A blunt in our face mention of how much Dushyant is trusted was sort of cue, of how soon hisaab will have to be given... and not in terms of financial accounts alone! On a side note - lots of random writing in this scene in terms of dialog. I thought SD's mention of Gulaal's face not showing tell tale signs of fasting because she does it 'mann se' was OTT. Baki kya mann se nahi karre?! 😲 Especially Kesar?! Because the next minute she's telling Kesar his face is showing signs! Not a huge fallout, but sometimes this house and its people just go to far in the Gulaal is mahaan talks! 😆 Again, MB's ramble about how the vrat and activity in the house has kept him occupied... err?! 🤔 I know the idea was to basically lose Dushyant's initiative to share the dowry matter, and waver his resolve given MB's mention of how he's against those practices, but it was just random, like I said, not a major blooper or something, but just lose by the general standards of writing in this show. I personally hate JK this scene onward. She is playing one of the trump cards in Dushyant's downfall 😡 Sorry Reemz but she made me so mad! 😆 Moving on, of course that quick exchange in vain between K-D. So much for me hoping these two will bond, like ever. Sigh. The way Dushyant hastened to shrug of Kesar at the very mention of munim ji... 🥱 reminded me of something from the Hindu epic Mahabharta. About how, when your end comes near, the first thing to desert you is your better sensibility. So warped up is he with surround problems, that this is the second time he's brushing off Kesar - who he was rightfully wary of for the longest time. I think, even camaraderie cannot justify his taking this lightly specially when Kesar mentions munimji. It should have been his alarm - although... just for a bit, I thought in the closing scene showdown between the brothers, that Dushyant did not seem so shocked about Kesar's question after all. Not about 22 lakhs anyway - just a bit about the 5 lakhs of dowry. Anyway - there goes my wish of watching these two bond, like ever.

Finally back to Classic SRK again, Kesar chaap! 😆

I totally went hailaaa at his ultimate zonked out fib to try and beat Gulaal's question over his fasting. Like seriously. First he tries the impossible. Then he also dares to give it his worst shot ever. 😆 But most of all her overlooks the not to so minor detail - he's talking to the Gulaal. Good enough he gets the hint without fibbing more crap. [Seriously, he didn't just tell her he was eating the vrat food to enjoy doing something different 😆 Kesar, Kesar! *shakes head*]

On a serious note, I really like how the scene plays out. Yes, it can get SRK-ish and cliche all it wants - when its GK style, its a seller! From his reason to fast with her - for their kuch dino ki shaadi, and because how can he eat when she's not, for him, for them... - it's amazing how quickly he's taken her case on her slip of confession, or moment of flow from the first day of fast. From the second she has mentioned her secret to wish to continue living in this house, the secret dream inside Kesar has - despite his strict check - found greater unleashing. He doesn't talk about the DV breaking, he talks about not dwelling on their future. A first, before Gulaal, because although he's said this before, to MB, to Talli - to Gulaal he has always talked of the impending parting. But here in this scene, he changes that. He not only claims to not think about what next - liar...?! - he also goes on to share his 'vow to himself'. Excellent timing for Kesar to say something he's done, and doing for her, only for his love. Not because they are friends, not because of the other bond they have had from the beginning... but a promise made only in love. And Gulaal's tujhe ye karne ki jarurat nahin thi argument is dashed to the ground. No more questions or answers - she can do what she wants about her feelings, and she can even bring him to the stage of volunteering to give up on her - but she can't change his love, and now, even his vow. Gone are the days Gulaal can brush off his gesture as obsession. I thought it was interesting, the way her expressions played inside the hall with all the family, when she realized he was fasting too. the fact that she hadn't seen it in the past 5 days - and the fact that it was so obvious. But again, I'm so happy this Gulaal++ version too has improved, and 'seeks' answers, and doesn't just come up with her own garbled logic to explain facts - making them quite something else! She confronts him, not angrily (yayyy) but just curiously and with only a feeble intention to tell him off. As if he'll let her 😆 Further, Kesar's timing to mention the vow of standing with her through her dark and deep is again, well in time, because going by the news, she will need all of it, and more! I doubt he'll need to be reminded of these words - not like Kesar to forget words between Gulaal and himself. Finally, Gulaal's overwhelmed mix of emotions - draws a blank in her face - at her cognizance of a tear... is just plain beautiful. Slowly but surely her heart has accepted him, and now this growing awareness of her head about her heart's secret affair is growing on her. From Tuesday - when they showed the dhol sequence - to Friday, there has been a subtle but definite rise in her 'tolerance' (or acceptance?!) of her heart's coy games!

Which is what we see again, when Gulaal is passing by the elders and over hears SD's talk of how her hubby used to fast with her. In this particular scene, I thought the presence of 'colors' in Gulaal's hands was such a thoughtful sign. While her body language shows betraying signs of acceptance, the presence of colors in her hands - in her life - shows the revival that is eventuating in the wake of this acceptance. In the wake of Kesar's barging right into her colorless life! And then the sealing of the scene with SD's mann ki awaaz muh ki awaaz ki kai unchi hoti hai... 👏 Almost pun intended. Gulaal can speak out loud - every version of 'NO' she wants to. Her mann ki awaaz is beginning to take over, and so fast, that she's barely finding instance to sit and think what hit her!

And done. I'm not going to go into the final scene - given the news leak, we all know the show down is coming. Oh but, quick mention to excellent camera work in revealing Gulaal's presence in that scene - her angry eyes, were pointed in such a misleading manner, it was hard to tell if her shocked rise of temper was towards Dushyant or Kesar - both seemed equally in the line of fire. But then came the precap - and now the article... and it seems obvious enough that Gulaal will try to snub Kesar and tell them both to first get back and get done with the pooja... Kesar being Kesar - on not getting answers will find the restless demons unleashed... and I suppose the real showdown will such a blast because he'll probably be forced to hold it back while Kunal is around? (We know he's planning to come and surprise Talli 🤢 ) So I reckon either he will just throw around bad mood when the guest is till there, and be getting told off by the elders which will provoke him to spill the beans - or maybe, just holding back on the temper will result in the outburst. Either way - high end drama to come... and last week for Dushyant? Sigh.

Btw - here's food for thought, before I close the post from me. So the family wants Gulaal to leave the house and go, because she knew all along, and did not tell them. Or is it, that the difference of being a daughter in law, and not child of the house finally comes to fore? Cause hello! Kesar has known it long enough too! Fine, a decade ago, he was a child. But what about now? Since the day he's come back - and far far more, since the day he's gotten his confirmation - that yes, Dushyant is the murderer. And yes, Gulaal knew it all and saved him. Why will he not be punished to withold the information once privy of the details?! Unfair much -? Or will he be?

Secondly, Kesar knows his facts. But he still doesn't know the reasons. Neither, of why Dushyant killed Vasant. Nor of why Gulaal protected him all this time. And to me, his learning of both those answers is significant. That Vasant was killed because Dushyant wanted Gulaal for himself. And that Gulaal protected him to keep the family knit together. The former answer, even more loaded, than the latter. I doubt it can brew up his jealousy for Dushyant again, or his doubt for Gulaal - but it's certainly going to be one heavy duty detail to deal with. Can't be a pretty sight, to say the least!

Dramabeans for Monday - WOOT!

Lovely analysis as always, Jzee...I really don't have much to add...I'll just repost the last set of caps I did for the dinner table scene cuz I didn't get to discuss that bit with anyone in Reemz's post...guess I got too late with the caps...haha

----------------------------------------------------------

Also did you guys notice that Kesar didn't fully understand just HOW difficult the vrat would be until the moment he has to eat the salt-less food?? LOLL...

His expression of horror here really cracks me up🤣

But ofcourse he is no less than Gulaal when it comes to rising up to a challenge😛

Gulaal kha sakti hai toh MAIN bhi khaa sakta hoon😆

This goes to show that initially he did the whole thing in bravado...ki koi baat nahin...4-5 din toh aise hi nikal jaayenge...then the moment he eats the saltless food, bechara gets his first jhatka...but STILL he doesn't back down...he knows no other way obviously when it comes to Gulaal.

You've thought it all out in your head, haven't you?? Then why still so bummed out?😆😆...I unfortunately read the latest spoiler article AFTER I read the TB news so I was a bit bummed out but having had time to let it sink in now I'm really excited to see this scene with Kesar revealing Dushyant's truth in the heat of the moment cuz of all his frustration.

As for why Gulaal will be asked to leave...it's not about the technicality of Kesar ALSO having known for 10 years...the situations were different...the way Gulaal chose to hide it was different...the family has always put Gulaal up on a pedestal, and this will be a big fall from that...a huge shock that they never saw coming, that's why...anyways this is all part of building up drama...this was actually an expected reaction from the family...it was expected that they would turn against Gulaal due to being hurt by this revelation...what's going to be interesting obviously is what this will mean for K and G's relationship...what Kesar's stance will be as he sees the elders turning against Gulaal...obviously Kesar will always stand by Gulaal no matter what...so I'm expecting some interesting drama coming up and some fab performances from all the actors involved.

Yes it may be the last week for Dushyant...but it's better to go out with a bang with this revelation happening than just aevein disappear which is what I was dreading...they will give justified closure to this huge secret that they've been hiding for years...the outcome had to be something of this sort only...better than the way characters random disappear in other shows I say.

Oh and awesome VM! lol...but I liked your Jaane tu one more😊
