I did too - I mean, read the TB before the forum article - tbh, every news article that claims the CVs have desperately tried to 'regain' falling TRPs, and even introduced the leap in effect - doesn't have the first facts right! Anyone with half a mind to follow this show can tell that the leap was not a TRP raising measure. It was part of the original scheme, and always on cards. Like you said in your comment on Anjali's VM - even the original song has both Vasant and chotta Kesar on the camel when they look at Gulaal. The story was always about GK, and not GV. Somehow, the way these news articles have done rounds about Gulaal shutting shop because of dipping TRPs I've come to think of how much the channel is making out of this 'anti publicity' campaign - because going by evidence of TRPs, there has been significant rise and upholding of at least a steady average TRP rating, specially post the leap - better than other shows on SP, especially in the after noon slot. I think what really is happening behind the scenes is this - the show is supposed to come to a close sometime in the near future anyway, the story line is drawing close to an end - the climax has been building and is nearly tipping at its peak now. So TRPs or not, the way this show has been, once their storyline got done with, they are not the kind to simply keep adding segments of more story to keep it on air - the team of writers and CVs for this show are different like that. Since the show has to but end with the coming together of GK, it's almost as if the admin itself would propagate talks of the show 'coming off air' because of not doing well. All publicity - negative and positive - only ever adds to additional promotion and consequent earning for any show. In a way, they're following the Bolly example. Hype up the climax and get it the best response hence, because loyal viewers will totally be agitated by such news, in protest will personally endeavor to promote the show even more! You see where that goes? That for a show that was to come off air to keep true to a logical ending, they add the controversy of TRPs as a issue which is leading to pulling it off air, and that adds to the hype, so that this climax gets its best response in the airing of the entire show history... The fact that we're hearing everything about DB coming on as a 9PM replacement is giving added pre-promotion to the new show, in addition, not to mention the fact that Gulaal 'ending' date has no confirmation. There are all kinds of rumors, but no channel confirmation - which almost makes me think they will simply push it into an afternoon slot to let it get its due time for a proper end - which is not a large amount of time needed anyway, right? Because from the sound of the showdown article, without 'rushing' through the storyline, some significant lose threads are going to be tied up finally, and they are also paving way for the finale get together of GK - by hinting a separation in the wake of this showdown. So if the show has an airing time of say upto end of August - it would more than suffice the story line and its conclusion. Additionally, despite being sifted to an afternoon slot the controversy has ensured ample publicity for the show, to assure viewership PLUS, additional publicity to the new show. All in all, I think its just dramatically putting out something that was plain and simple as the show story line having lived its life and finding a proper end. It was going to happen - but by airing these rumors they've hyped the peak of climax, and raised TRPs to an all time high in Gulaal's history. Not such a bad bargain at all, for a show they have always put in the backseat when it comes to promotions!
And of course, that's just me trying to speculate about the situation, with so much conflicting news of the end. At no point of any episode has it felt like the CVs are hurried, threatened, pressured or hastening (minus of the GK surprise for Tali, which I think after al might truly have gone awry purely because of Mansi's accident) Gulaal has shown no signs of a show that is dying from suffocation of lack of TRPs... it looks like s storyline that has played by its outline at all times, and continues to do so now as it approaches it high end last chapter. And the channel has simply found means of making the most of its tail end! The lack of TRPs to pull down this show just makes sense in no other way - specially when they try to suggest the leap didn't work, LOL!
Gah, do I make any sense?! Maybe I've just found reason to not feel disappointed... cause there's no saying how much I will miss the show after its done. But there will be much satisfaction in knowing it got its proper end, and so far, I feel like we aren't being betrayed on that end, of robbed of any promise we've trusted!
