Thank you friends for your overwhelming love and support. I was going to update tomorrow but Mwaah…Mwaah….I am very happy today. First time more than 100 friends liked my work and I am over the moon. Thanks once again. I hope you enjoy this part. Though no Maaneet but it is an action packed chapter.

Chapter 35 – Man Proposes, God Disposes

Jeene ke liye soch hi nahin dard sambhalne honge

Muskuraien to muskurane ke karz utarne honge

Muskaraaun kabhi to lagta hai jaise hothon pe karz rakha hai

Tujhse naaraz nahin zaindagi hairaan hoon main hairaan hoon main

Evening 8:30 PM

Every muscle in Maan's leg and shoulder screamed in agony. He felt his entire back was on fire and his throat was full of smoke. He opened his eyes to ensure the ball of fire was no more behind him. He took in the shower cubicle and changing room where he stood. He knew his mobile was lost and before he could move towards the phone mounted on the wall; Dr Sood walked in.

"How are you feeling Maan"

Maan - "I wish I could say I was fine but actually I think I am heading for the worse"

Dr Sood - "Hmmm…you know Maan you are one of the bravest persons I have met in real life. I have arranged for a car to take you home. And off course take next couple of days off. Dr Mathur will pay you home visit and just call me if you need anything."

Maan - "Thanks Sir"

Dr Sood - "Please don't thank Maan. This is the least I can do. Also, you may have to be a little cautious as I am sure there will be lot of media in front of your house"

Maan smiled probably for the first time in last 5 hours – "Don't worry sir; I have another home to go to"

A nurse helped Maan to move in to the car waiting for him at the back of the hospital. He gave the address of KM and closed his eyes in pain. His mind wandered to the moment just few hours back when his life seemed perfect.

-----Flashback----

He left from hospital at 3:00 PM itself so that they can be back from Ram Tekri on time. Today he will tell his Mishty how much he loved her. He will convince her to give their relationship a chance. He was lost in his thoughts when suddenly he saw a truck coming in the wrong direction. He swore and swayed his car to get out of danger. His car became uncontrolled but he somehow managed to avoid fall into the side ditch. He was furious and looked back. But suddenly his anger turned to horror.

A school bus just behind him had not been that lucky. Truck has clipped its bonnet and now the bus was rolling into the ditch. He could hear screams of the children as the bus plunged down in what looked like a 10 ft sandy slide.

He quickly called Adi and told him about the accident. He asked him to call police and get the ambulances as soon as possible. With that he climbed down to see the damage.

Bus had stopped tilting sideways. He pulled open the door and climbed in. Children were trapped in their seats and most of them were hurt. There were glass pieces stained with blood marks scattered all over the place. His heart lurched as he smelled diesel. Tank had burst and the damn bus could catch fire at any point.

He quickly moved to the driver and checked his pulse. He was dead.

He looked at the frightened kids – "Please raise your hand if you think you can walk"

Around 15-20 kids raised their arms. He asked those to catch hold of the kid next to them. He started prising them out of their seats and helped them jump out of the bus. He instructed them to take hold of one extra kid and move as far up as possible.

He had already lost around 30 minutes in this. He swore "Damn where is the police and those ambulances. Stench of diesel was getting overbearing. There were still around 15 kids left and they seemed to be injured heavily. He moved towards the kids in the back. First two he checked had already died due to the impact with truck. He lugged other two kids on his shoulders and carried one on his arm. He was in pain as his muscles were tired from hauling the other 30 kids but he didn't stop. He pushed himself to the door and climbed down.

Kids inside the bus were crying for help. He gave them an assuring look and started to climb up. He had moved few feet away when two more men came. They took the kids from him but refused to come down as engine had burst. Maan could not leave those screaming kids there and so he came back. He lost count of how many times he repeated this. Only 4 more kids were left now and he sighed in relief as he heard the ambulance sirens. He jumped in to make his last trip.

As soon as he hauled the first kid on his shoulder, there was a blast. Engine had finally caught fire and a ball of flames swooshed in shattering the glass windows along with it. Maan felt his back on fire as glass shards cut his arms and neck. He fell down and felt fresh blood staining the floor. It took couple of blinks to realize that he was bleeding but he still don't know from where. He rolled over to douse the flames on his back but was shocked to see entire bus in flames. He knew he had seconds to get out.

He motioned to the terrified kids. He quickly hauled two on the shoulders and grabbed two in his arms and jumped out of the bus. As he crashed out he could hear the yelps as their bodies contacted the ground. He fainted but he before he closed his eyes he saw khaki covered men grabbing them and pushing them towards the safety.

Much later he realized that police had finally arrived.

He had opened his eyes to see a doctor hastily putting gauzes on his cuts. His back was burning like hell and his body shuddered with pain. First thing he saw was his hands and he felt relieved that his hands were fine. After all he was a surgeon and nothing without his hands.

Next few hours had been a burr. He got up to find that 9 kids needed extensive surgery and that too on the immediate basis. Though his body screamed in denial, he sanitized himself and pushed to the nearest OT. He completed two intricate surgeries while other surgeons and pediatricians worked on other children. Dr Sood was managing the whole emergency plan himself and less complicated cases had already been discharged or moved to other hospitals.

He jerked his eyes open as the car stopped in front of KM. Driver opened the door for him and supported him till the door. When he entered, the sight in front of him clenched his heart. Rishab noticed him first and ran to him almost crushing him in the hug. He was sobbing and shouting "where the hell have you been….are you ok…god please say that you are ok….say that you are ok"

By now every body was close to him. Maan whispered comforting his dad – "I am fine…please I am fine…just a little hurt…can you guys let me come inside"

Raj pulled Rishab away and grabbed Maan's hand gently but in a strong grip. Maan nodded thanks to the driver and moved inside.

fantastic...glad maan is okay and our super hero, notonly took the kids out of the bus, but also helped with surgery inspite of being hurt himself...

valid point...well they found out quite late and panicked...it was chaos at hospital and officals were tight lipped...and Rahul went to hospital but i didnt mention it...my miss
