The two actors aren't related in any way, but I have noticed that on the Bollywood forum, both of them are praised to no skies....and I can't help but wonder, why the two of them are looked up to on screen, and off screen.

Madhuri:

1) Overrated.
2) Mediocre actor.
3) Known more for her elegance, lines, charm, charisma.
4) Everyone should like her because she's a "good" human being.
5) Good human being makes me recall when she was on the couch with Subhash Ghai.
6) What works of hers do you recommend to me so that I can view her as an actress?...not a good human being, not a beautiful person, not a charismatic star.

Rani M.

1) Overrated. (Black is Fa kin shiii. It's not half as good as Miracle Worker...forget half, not even a quarter or nickel).
2) No, NOKJ is not path breaking. Neither is Hum Tum or Saathiya. 😵
3) She has had disasters early on in the career, and post the Black, Hum Tum days as well. So where does she get the queen tag? Some take it way too seriously.
4) What else do you recommend me to watch of hers other than Black, Hum Tum, Saathiya, NOKJ.
5) Why should I look up to her off screen? She smokes, she curses, EDIT

---

I really do not have anything against the two....I can say anything, but I still give the actresses business by viewing their films, however, I need to know why they are so ardently respected and hailed?...Maybe I need perspectives.

---

Oh and with my title....since we are allowed to discuss personal stories and make absurd assumptions...EDIT

Madhuri:

1) Overrated. Yes. She definetely is one of the most overrated actress after Rani and Aishwarya
2) Mediocre actor. Yes. She never came out of her comfort zone.I have never seen her doing anything extrordinary.
3) Known more for her elegance, lines, charm, charisma. She is definetely elegant no doubt in that
4) Everyone should like her because she's a "good" human being. I dont know whether she is good human being or not since i havent seen her doing anything for which i can say she is a "good" human being.
5) Good human being makes me recall when she was on the couch with Subhash Ghai.I know nothing about that. Was she involved in casting couch?
6) What works of hers do you recommend to me so that I can view her as an actress?...not a good human being, not a beautiful person, not a charismatic star. Maybe HAHK since that's the only movie of her that i have enjoyed but u can hardly judge her as an actress from that film.

Rani M.

1) Overrated. (Black is Fa kin shiii. It's not half as good as Miracle Worker...forget half, not even a quarter or nickel). Rani is another overrated actress from Bollywood.
2) No, NOKJ is not path breaking. Neither is Hum Tum or Saathiya. 😵 Although i enjoyed watching HUM TUM but that was not enough to label her as the QUEEN of Bollywood.
3) She has had disasters early on in the career, and post the Black, Hum Tum days as well. So where does she get the queen tag? Some take it way too seriously. Doing 🤬favors to the directors, top actors definetly helps. I can see that.
4) What else do you recommend me to watch of hers other than Black, Hum Tum, Saathiya, NOKJ. I would recommend u NOT to watch most of her movies-esp her movies from her struggling days.
5) Why should I look up to her off screen? She smokes, she curses, EDIT. I dont think i can comment on thisšŸ˜†

pregnancy scares...? And what's with your obssession of celebs having STDs...looool?
Madhuri has good facial expressions, she's graceful. I just love her smile & the kinda mystic aura of hers.
Rani is a good actor - quite overrated because of Kjo & YRF.

Okay edited after reading the full thing. I think everyone is entitled to an opinion, even if it flows against the wave. However, lets keep it 95% clean. Respect each other's opinions. If you think both of them are overrated, then ok....if you think both are not overrated then ok too. Just keep it civil.

Lets have a rare occasion, and discuss the various opinions everyone has to offer. Alright?

zainab: you are very brave. I remember talking about Rani and her sleeping with various producers/directors and I still shake at the memory of the abuses hurled by fans..

On topic: Madhuri was not a great actress. She is a very good dancer. As an actress I agree she is absolutely average. As is Rani.

Oh yeah, just read the comment above mine..it has already started zainab..be scared..be very scared šŸ˜†

The only explanation that I can come up with in my sleep-deprived state is that we tend to put a halo of greatness on anything related to the past and a patina of insignificance on the present. Like for example, every generation of elders have this idea that children in their time were better and the current generation is headed for unmitigated disaster.
In these forums I have heard eulogies for the great acting prowess of Hema Malini in her time. My mom was really amused by this. She said that Hemaji was a great star but people used to make really uncharitable comments about her lack of emotive expressions and horrendous dialogue delivery during her time. But witth the passage of time, people have equated her glamour and charm to acting excellence. Rani and Madhuri are the two most connectable and evocative names to bash the current crop of actresses. And in consequence, their hallowed status get more and more glorified every day.
And on a side note: Is their a statute of limitation on the "Queen" tag Rani's last hit was in 2006 followed by a hit in a obviously non-commercial, non-mainstream film in 2011. These speculations of her resurrection as the Queen of Bollywood is a bit confusing.
