The Federation of Western India Cine Employees has sought an urgent meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, citing rising security concerns across the entertainment industry. The move comes after a series of threats to film personalities and a recent firing incident in Mumbai.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, FWICE referred to what it described as a growing sense of fear within the fraternity. “In recent days, several eminent and renowned personalities from the film, television, and digital media industry have reportedly received threats and have been subjected to alarming security scares,” the letter stated.
The body underlined that while known actors may appear to be the immediate targets, the impact extends far beyond them. FWICE represents a large workforce that includes artists, technicians, daily wage earners, backstage crew and several other professionals. Any disruption involving leading names, it said, directly affects thousands who depend on regular shoot schedules for their livelihood.
“The prevailing environment of fear is beginning to affect shooting schedules, production planning, and overall morale within the industry,” the federation wrote, adding that uncertainty is now disturbing routine functioning across sets and studios.
FWICE urged the state government to formally take note of the situation and strengthen preventive mechanisms. It also called for better coordination with law enforcement agencies and visible security arrangements to reassure stakeholders. Stressing that Mumbai remains the core hub of India’s film and television business, the body said safeguarding the sector is crucial.
“We firmly believe that under your able leadership and guidance, effective measures can be undertaken to address these concerns promptly and decisively,” the letter added, requesting an early appointment to present the matter in detail.
The appeal follows recent incidents involving actor Aayush Sharma, who reportedly received a threat email, and Ranveer Singh, who was sent a threatening WhatsApp voice note demanding crores. Earlier, five rounds were fired outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence. Police have arrested five accused in that case.
