Chapter 2

Trying to get to class she ran as fast as she can and bumped into someone.As she looked up she realized it was Jai.

JAI:

What the heck? Can't you see where you're going!

BANI:

I.....I.......

JAI:

What:

BANI:

Well I needed to get to class........................

JAI:

Whatever.

He walked off and as he went Bani just stared at him.

BANI:

He didn't even remember my name.

As Bani entered the room everyone stared at her.She went to her place and sat down as the teacher just walked in.

TEACHER:

Now class there will be a party towards the end of the year.But you have to prove yourself through your behaviour.This time anyone whose behaviour is despicable will not be allowed to attend.That includes you too Jai.

JAI

: Yes maam.

Bani looked at the smile on his face and she automatically smiled loving it when he was happy.

The whole day went past normally.Bani going to every class and drooling over Jai.At lunchtime Rano,Pia and Bani all sat together with their friend Anita.

ANITA:

So I heard roshni has came back from her holiday today.Shes probably with Jai.

BANI:

WHAT? WHERE?

PIA:

Calm down di.She is probably messing with you.

ANITA:

I'm not.Look she's over there sitting on his lap.

BANI

: Oh god, why?

PIA:

Where's Rano?

ANITA:

She has gone to get dessert for herself.

BANI:

It doesn't matter.I am in a crisis and you are talking about Rano getting her dessert.Look at that witch she has draped herself all over him.

ANITA:

Calm down.She won't stay with him for long not after the she sees the hew hunk that has joined today.

PIA:

ANITA:

Yes.His name is Pushkar.

PIA:

Hey that's your brother's name.

ANITA:

I just said there is a new hunk.

PIA:

ANITA:

Ok. Well he used to go to a college in Dubai where my uncle lives but decided to come live here with us in Mumbai.

BANI:

Hopefully she will go to your brother and die in his arms.

PIA:

ANITA:

How long does it take to get a dessert.

PIA:

They went to Rano as quickly as possible.

RANO:

Just because you're a boy it doesn't mean you dominate over girls.

SAHIL:

Well the way it looks girls are always all over me.

RANO:

RANO:

Not wanting to cause a fight Bani dragged her away from there with Pia and Anita following.

BANI:

That was his brother.How could you Rano?

RANO:

Di.It was his fault.

BANI:

What happened.

RANO:

Well I wanted that chocolate ice cream sundae and I picked it up. But as I was walking away Sahil held my hand and said it was his. I asked him that since when did desserts have their name written all over it.He kept on wanting it and then I started accusing him of trying to take it to show his man power.

Pia and Anita burst out laughing.

BANI:

Rano why didn't you just say sorry.

RANO:

Was my mind upside down that I would say sorry to him.

BANI:

But rano.....................................

PIA:

Ok you two leave it now.

ROSHNI:

Hey girls and geek.(referring to Bani)

ANITA:

Hey it's great to see you again.

ROSHNI:

Well It's fabulous to be back and in the arms of Jai.

BANI:

BANI:

PIA:

Just then a a boy came,sat next to Pia andvput his arm over Pia and said "How you doing today?"

Pia grabbed his arm took it off her shoulder and gave him a big slap.

PIA:

How dare you? I'm not one of those girls who would be ok with a complete stranger putting his arm around her.Never do that to another girl or you will get another slap.

ANITA:

Pia what have you done?

PIA:

What do you mean what have I done look what he did.

ANITA:

PIA:

Such boys should be dealt with in this way.

Chapter 3

PIA: What?

BANI

: Ooops.

ANITA:

Are you OK?

PUSHKAR:

I'm fine. Um I'll see you later.

He got up to leave when Pia stopped him by grabbing onto his arm. He turned his head and looked at her questioningly.

PIA:

I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. It's just that I thought you were one of those idiots. If I knew you were Pushkar then I wouldn't have done anything.

PUSHKAR:

So you've forgotten me. I thought that when we were small and used to play you liked it.

PIA:

What? I've never seen you.

PUSHKAR:

Yes you have. Tell her Anita who you got posed as you're cousin when we were small.

ANITA:

Well. When we were small you always liked to be friends with cool people. I would've got embarrassed if you new the little geek was my brother. But you ended up liking him and I didn't think it mattered whether he was my brother or cousin brother.

PIA:

It does matter.

ANITA:

I know that now.

PUSHKAR:

Well whatever happened in childhood has gone. Let's think about now. I forgive you.

PIA:

Thank you.

PUSHKAR:

So what are we girls talking about?

RANO:

Nothing. Just talking about Jai Walia.

PUSHKAR:

Who's he.

RANO:

Didi's jaan.

BANI:

Rano!

PUSHKAR:

Hey I can see those big brown eyes behind those glasses and can tell who they're searching for. By the way his girlfriend is just a fling if you look at him he's just playing her I am sure you can tell by the way they are together.

BANI:

Yeah. I just hope one day that witch get's off him and get's thrown in garbage.

PUSHKAR:

Don't worry. I'll make sure that happens.

They all laughed till they cried. Bani liked Pushkar he was funny but little did they know that someone was watching them and trying to see what they were talking about.

************************************************JAI: Roshni, why are you looking over there. Hello, I'm over here.

ROSHNI:

Sorry but I was just wondering who tha guy was that is sitting on that table.

JAI:

Who cares. He's not gonna bite us.

ROSHNI:

I wish he'd bite me.

JAI:

ROSHNI:

Nothing. Here have some grapes.

Bani could not stop looking. She was getting infuriated and wanted to go over there to rip out Roshni's eyes but something was stopping her. Of course she always blamed her niceness. The bell went and everyone headed off to class.

ANITA:

Pia can you show Pushkar around because all his classes are with you.

PIA:

But Anita.........................................................

Pia and Pushkar were walking to science. They were both quiet. Pia was mainly quiet due to the fact that she was still embarrassed about what she did. Trying to make conversation and make this less awkward she started to talk.

PIA:

Well why did you..............................................................

PIA:

Excuse me?

PUSHKAR:

You think just because you're pretty everyone will fall at your feet. Thinking that you slapped me!

PIA:

Listen I said sorry I mean what more can I do to??

PUSHKAR:

Well that doesn't matter I only accepted it because of Anita. But I'm telling you straight up I don't accept it. Until you say sorry in a way you mean it I don't accept it. I'm Anita's brother which is why you forgave me otherwise you wouldn't have said sorry.

PIA:

Listen I'm saying sorry and I mean it, why can't you accept it?

He looked at her. For some reason she felt scared. He went towards her as she went back. Something hit her back and she realized it was the wall. Her heart was beating really fast like it was going to jump out of her body.

PUSHKAR:

How about all the people that listened to what you said. First you have to accept your mistake in front of everyone and it matters how you do it. If I'm not impressed that apology won't be accepted.

PIA:

But..............................................................

Quickly he put his finger over her soft lips while she looked on surprised not thinking anything.

PUSHKAR

: Don't speak, just do.

He went off into the science room. Pia just stood there thinking wow.

PIA: I never knew there was such a guy. But let's see just how long he will stay angry. Whenever I give an apology the other person has to accept it.

Saying that she went into class. The whole lesson just when y in her making ideas to see how to say sorry in a way he will accept.

JAI:

How can you do that.

TEACHER:

Look Jai. You have brought this upon yourself. Now by seating you next to Bani you will learn more. She is a very bright student.

JAI:

TEACHER:

Well go on, sit next to her.

JAI:

Can't I sit next to someone else. Tanya, Nandini, Rani or Anita.

ANITA:

No way dude not next to me.

JAI:

But we're good friends.

ANITA:

Yeah but you don't study and I want to study. We don't all have a rich dad like you. So, you're on your own buddy. BTW Bani is really nice.

JAI:

Why don't you sit next to her.

ANITA:

I would but we are all stuck in a seating plan given by our wonderful teacher and I don't have a problem

TEACHER:

Do you Jai?

JAI:

TEACHER:

Do you have a problem with that?

JAI:

TEACHER:

If you don't sit there you will not be allowed to attend the school dance.

JAI:

Fine I'm going. Keep your wig on.

As Jai walked to where Bani was sitting her heart started to beat. She stared at him and he knew she was as it was obvious but she couldn't help it. He sat next to her and both were quiet for a long time.

JAI:

What's the answer to the questions.

BANI:

You're supposed to be learning not copying.

JAI:

Look just give me the answers.

BANI:

No. You are smart but simply lazy.

JAI:

Hey!

BANI:

It's true.

JAI:

Well then don't talk to me if you won't give me the answers.

BANI:

But...............................................................

JAI:

Don't but. You do your work I will do mine. You stay out of my way I stay out of yours. Got it?

BANI:

Whatever.

The whole lesson Bani didn't look at him. She was so upset and needed to talk to her sisters. The bell went and everyone rushed out to go home. Except for Bani. She stayed back and convinced the teacher Jai will learn and to allow him to attend the party no matter what he does. The teacher agreed but only on the fact that Bani guaranteed everything will get sorted out. Walking home Bani was trying to figure out ways to get him to learn but she couldn't come up with any.

Bani was up in her room lying on her soft bed wondering what to do about the situation. She looked up at the lilac ceiling and still had nothing.

PIA:

Di what's the matter? You didn't come to eat. Is everything ok?

RANO:

Yeah di. What's wrong?

Bani burst into tears.

PIA

: Di tell us clearly what happened.

BANI:

You won't believe it I have to sit next to Jai in science.

PIA:

That's great di you must be very excited to be sat next to him.

RANO:

Yeah it's probably dream come true for her.

BANI:

Yeah it is. But........................................................

PIA:

But what?

BANI:

We had our first fight.

RANO:

That's what you're crying over.

PIA:

Oh God di. You take everything seriously.

RANO:

But Pia don't you know they had a fight now the world's going to end. (Sarcastically)

BANI:

Rano! If you are going to be like this about it then I don't want to talk to you.

Bani got up off her bed and walked outside onto the balcony. Her sisters followed her to try to make her see sense. But Bani being Bani didn't listen.

PIA:

Now what are you thinking about?

BANI:

Well the only reason he is sitting next to me because he is not learning in class. So how do I get him to learn.

RANO:

That's easy. Do to him what you did with Pia.

PIA:

Yeah anything he needs to learn read it aloud next to him and it might stick in his head.

RANO:

Also he has no one else to talk to because you're sitting with him so it can't be avoided and he will definitely learn.

BANI:

Yeah. Thanks guys.

RANO:

Now shall we go to bed. Varna mummy ke maar paregi. (Otherwise we will get in trouble with mum)

They all went to bed. Bani went to bed smiling. She knew she would find a way.

The next day she went to school. Jai came and sat next to her during science. They has to read the page of their biology book and answer questions. Knowing what she had to do she starting reading aloud.

BANI:

Chromosomes are only visible as distinct structures when a cell is dividing.

JAI:

What are you doing?

BANI:

I'm reading. Any problem?

JAI:

Yes. Don't read it aloud you're annoying me.

BANI:

But his is how I learn.

Bani continued reading.

BANI:

For the rest of the time they are widely dispersed throughout the nucleus.

JAI:

Great. Now I have to listen to this crap all lesson.

Ignoring his comment Bani read everything and the questions and the answers to the questions. Jai was getting annoyed but Bani knew it was beneficial for him. Gradually she started to enjoy it because she knew their fight was over. But she did admit it was stupid of her to think of it as a fight.

At lunch Rano, Anita and Bani were together but Pia was not there. Although they didn't notice as Bani had a big smile on her cute face. Meanwhile Pia was elsewhere. She got into the principals office while he was out and made an announcement.

PIA:

Dear fellow students. Some of you may have witnessed me Pia Dixit slapping Pushkar Shukla yesterday. That was all a misunderstanding and please don't think of him as a bad guy. He's really cool. Pushkar I'm sorry. If I could turn back time and have a chance not to do it I would. Unfortunately I can't. I hope you find a way to forgive me. That's it.

Thinking she did great she quickly went to find Pushkar. She went outside near the benches where Bani, Rano and Anita were sitting. Knowing they were outside and didn't know what she just announced asked them very calmly?

PIA:

Have you guys seen Pushkar?

ANITA:

No, why:

PIA:

No reason, I just need some help from him in what we learned in class today. That's all. Bye.

Pia rushed inside not knowing where to fid him. Instead she just went to her locker o take some books.

PUSHKAR:

BOOOOOOOOOOOO!

PIA:

AAAAGGGGHHHHH!

PUSHKAR:

Ha HA!

PIA:

Jeez that's not funny.

PUSHKAR:

To me it is.

PIA:

So did you hear the announcement?

PUSHKAR:

Yes.

PIA:

Am I forgiven?

PUSHKAR:

Nope.

PIA:

PUSHKAR:

Didn't sound sincere.

PIA:

uff.

Pia went off angry while Pushkar stood there watching her going off in anger. He laughed.

PUSHKAR:

She get's angry really quickly.

Tonight Pia was angry wondering what she will have to do to get her apology across. While Bani was happy that Jai wasn't getting angry at the fact she was annoying him.

Two weeks had passed and today was the test in science. Bani hoped her plan worked. She walked into the science room and saw him sitting there. She was more nervous than him.

TEACHER:

Class you all know you have a test today get your equipment out and stay quiet. These class assessments are important and determine what your results will be.

The teacher gave out all assessments.

TEACHER:

You have 45 minutes. Good luck everyone.

Everyone started the exam and for the first time Jai was actually doing it. But Bani couldn't help but think whether he was writing daft answers like he sometimes does. Bani whizzed through the exam. There were 15 minutes left and Bani was going through her paper. But she noticed Jai was just sitting. Now she was having doubts whether he did it or didn't.

TEACHER:

Class. Stop what you're doing and put your pens down.

She collected in all the papers and as the bell went everyone rushed off.

BANI:

Maam.

TEACHER:

Yes Bani.

BANI:

When will we get our results?

TEACHER:

Hopefully tomorrow. Why?

BANI:

Nothing just eager to know what I got.

TEACHER:

Well I'm sure you did fine. You always do.

BANI:

Ok. Bye.

TEACHER:

Bye.

But it was not herself who she was worried about.

PUSHKAR:

What do you want from me?

PIA:

I want you to say that you accept my apology.

PUSHKAR:

It's not my fault I don't.

PIA:

Look I made an announcement, I gave like a million I'm sorry cards and I have wrote I'm sorry on lots of paper and posted them in your locker. What more can I do?

PUSHKAR:

SO?

PIA:

So say it's ok and that we are friend from now on.

PUSHKAR:

Is that what you really want.

PIA:

Yes!

PUSHKAR

: So you want us to be friends.

PIA:

Yes. Haven't you been listening to a word I've been saying.

PUSHKAR:

Then why don't you know that there is no sorry in friendship. Why is it so important for me to forgive you?

Pia couldn't think of anything to say so instead just walked off. But she stopped midway.

PIA:

I'm done asking for an apology because you're being the jerk here. So from now on don't expect an apology.

She went off to Bani and Rano to walk home with them.

Pushkar stood there.

PUSHKAR:
