Hi there
any chance of an update?
Part- 6
After a couple of years....
The children have grown up. They have completed their basic schooling and are now going to high school. Maan and Annie have a long break before they return to Mumbai. Rather Dehradun, yes, they will be going to the Doon School from now, their new boarding school.
Sheetal wants them to go and stay on their own for a while, though Maan is always on his own, very independent from the beginning, Annie is very dependent on Sheetal, that's not good for a girl specially, she should take care of her life and be independent, that is a must later on when she gets married and goes to a new home, haina?
So, this vacation, they are coming to Delhi. Geet has gone to Hoshiarpur.
Dadaji and Dadi also want to visit Hoshiarpur. However, the kids are not very excited about the trip, especially Maan.
Dadi: Maan bete, you should also come with us to Hoshiarpur, it will be fun
Maan: what fun? I hate it there
Dadi: why beta?
Maan: There is no proper internet connection there, The TV is boring, and Sheetal doesn't even allow me to use the phone. What am I supposed to do all day?
Dadi doesn't want to force him, or it's never good to force Maan for he will always do the opposite...... and he is very very ziddi, like all the males in the Khurana pariwaar....
Annie , on the other hand, is happy to go.
Finally, it is decided that Annie will travel to Hoshiarpur with Dadaji and Dadi, while Maan and Sheetal will stay back in Delhi.
When Dadi and Annie reach Hoshiarpur, they meet Darji's family. Annie already knows Geet, and the two girls quickly become friends. They sit together, talking about their schools, sharing little gossip, and playing games.
After a while, Arjun asks, "Where is Maan?"
Dadi replies, "Maan stayed back in Delhi."
Geet, who has been listening quietly, hears this and immediately relaxes.
"Oh, Maan is still in Delhi?" she says with relief. "Okay, then the trouble is not here, no problem for me, Thanks babaji!"
Arjun goes to the playground in the evening to play cricket.
Annie stayed back with Geet, and the girls spent their time playing inside the house because Ranno does not allow them to go out in the afternoon heat.
In the evening, Geet wants to go to the playground because many of her friends will be there. She is excited for Annie to meet all of them.
Ranno gives them permission, and Geet happily takes Annie along with Arjun.
At the playground, they meet all their Hoshiarpur friends. Lucky and Nandini are there. Dev is there too.
The teams are mostly divided into Dev's team and Arjun's team. And as always, Geet plays for Dev's team. Annie joins Geet's team as well.
Every evening the children gather to play cricket. Sometimes Ranno prepares snacks for them. Sometimes Dadi comes to watch them play.
Darji and Dadaji sit with the other elders and fondly remember their childhood days.
"We used to play Kabaddi on this very ground," Dadaji says.
"And now our grandchildren are playing here,"Dadrji adds.
Time flies quickly. The old men are very happy as their retirement is blessed with such memorable times. They are indeed very lucky.
Ten days pass, and Annie settles completely into life in Hoshiarpur. She hardly thinks about Delhi anymore.
Meanwhile, Maan is getting bored in Delhi. Annie is not there. Arjun is not there. Everyone is in Hoshiarpur. The festivals are still a month away, and Sheetal plans to travel only a week before them.
Dadi calls Sheetal and asks her to bring Maan earlier.
"Let him stay here for a longer time," she says. "He is grown up now. He will understand the importance of family and relationships."
Everyone agrees.
And so Maan comes to Hoshiarpur.
The next morning, Annie is excitedly waiting for Dadi.
"Dadi, come on! We're getting late!" she says.
Maan watches her curiously.
Where is she going every day? Why is she so excited?
Soon Dadi arrives.
"Come on, let's go," she says.
"Dadi, we're already late. Geet will be waiting for me!" Annie replies.
Dadi looks at Maan.
"Maan, son, we're going to Geet's house. Arjun will be there too. You can come if you want."
Maan shakes his head.
"No, I'm not interested. I don't know any of them. I'll stay here."
"As you wish," Dadi says.
Annie and Dadi leave.
Maan spends the morning wandering around the house. He explores rooms, walks around the courtyard, picks up a cricket bat and ball, and plays by himself.
Soon he gets bored.
Sheetal notices.
"Why didn't you go with Dadi?" she asks. "Arjun would have been there. You could have played with the boys."
Maan thinks about it and realizes she is right.
"I should have gone," he admits to himself.
Sheetal smiles.
"You stay indoors all day in Mumbai. You did the same in Delhi. Here you have open grounds, friends, and places to explore. You won't get this time again."
Maan finally decides.
"I'll go in the evening."
That evening, Maan goes with Dadi and Annie to the playground.
The teams are already formed, and everyone is ready to play.
Maan stands quietly to one side.
There doesn't seem to be a place for him.
As expected, Dev's team doesn't invite him.
Arjun immediately calls out, "Come on, Maan! Join our team."
"No, it's okay. I'll just watch."
"But you came here to play," Sheetal says.
"There isn't any space left."
Arjun laughs.
"This isn't international cricket. We can play with twelve players."
"Twelve?"
"Sometimes even fifteen."
Maan stares at him.
"How can you play cricket with fifteen players?"
"We're all children. There's enough space for everyone. Everyone gets a chance."
Maan frowns.
"I don't want to be a substitute who only fields. I don't want to be a ball boy."
Arjun grins.
"Don't worry. The younger kids do that. You'll bat too. If you want, you can even take my batting turn."
"No, one turn is enough."
Eventually, Maan agrees and joins the game.
Geet is not happy at all.
Why has this boy come here?
Everything was fine before.
Now he will be around all the time.
She doesn't like it.
Maan, however, is simply curious.
Geet is unlike any girl he has met before. She isn't like Annie or the girls in his class. She mostly talks to her close friends and doesn't seem interested in impressing anyone.
Yet whenever Maan is around, she seems uncomfortable.
She glances at him occasionally.
She never comes near him.
She avoids speaking to him.
And somehow, his presence seems to irritate her.
Maan doesn't understand why.
And that mystery only makes him more curious.
This summer is special for Mannet as they discover that there is something something brewing between them, it might be either friendship or hatred, but at the end of the day they can't ignore each other.
