Savinderpal Vicky is not a part of Kohrra 2.. Thats unfortunate.. He and Barun made a good team..
Hope season 2 doesn't disappoint.
Huh, did they just get rid of one of the main leads? It was such a good show.
Hope it stays in Punjabi and we don't have to put with the Hindified version lol
Kohrra 2 review: Barun Sobti, Mona Singh elevate dark, layered crime thriller
Kohrra 2 wastes no time in pulling you back into its cold, unsettling world. The series opens on a foggy morning with a prabhat pheri winding its way through a quiet Punjab village. A woman stops to pray. Moments later, she discovers her daughter’s body in the
At the centre of the story is the brutal murder of Preet Bajwa (Pooja Bhamrrah), whose body is found in her brother Baljinder Atwal’s barn in Dalerpura. As the investigation unfolds, the suspicion spreads. Preet’s estranged NRI husband (Rannvijay Singha), her alleged boyfriend Johnny Malang (Vikhyat Gulati), and Baljinder (Anurag Arora) all find themselves under the scanner. Nothing is straightforward here, and the new season of Kohrra makes sure you feel the messiness of truth right from the start.
Barun Sobti returns as Assistant Sub-Inspector Amarpal Garundi, but he is a noticeably different man from Season 1. After a transfer from his hometown Jagrana, Garundi is now starting afresh in Dalerpura under a new boss, sub-inspector Dhanwant Kaur, played with quiet authority by Mona Singh. Garundi is still sharp and instinctive, but the impulsiveness that once defined him has been replaced with restraint. He thinks more, reacts less, and carries his past like a shadow that refuses to loosen its grip. barn. It’s a chilling start, perfectly in sync with the show’s title and mood.
Mona Singh’s Dhanwant Kaur is easily one of the season’s strongest pillars. A woman of few words, she commands the screen with calm resolve. Beneath the uniform, however, is a mother grieving the loss of her son, trapped in a household weighed down by guilt and alcoholism. The show handles her pain with sensitivity, especially in moments of silence, like when she revisits the site of her son’s accident or softly recalls how much he loved Lohri. These details humanise her without ever turning her into a trope.
The partnership between Dhanwant and Garundi is understated but effective. Unlike Season 1, where he had a great camaraderie with his boss Balbir (Suvinder Vicky), his relationship with Dhanwant here evolves over time. By the end of Episode 5, they two even start joking, sadly, about their battered state. Nonetheless, it will put a smile on your face. There’s no forced banter or dramatic showdowns, just two people doing their jobs while slowly uncovering not just a crime, but their own vulnerabilities. Their dynamic grounds the show, even as the mystery grows increasingly layered.
The investigation into Preet Bajwa’s murder unfolds steadily across six episodes. Each chapter peels back another layer. From strained family ties, unresolved trauma, to secrets that refuse to stay buried. Episodes like The Dead Never Leave and Everything Burns dig into the past, making it clear that in Kohrra, history is never really history. Midway, the narrative takes a darker turn when a warehouse fire exposes a far more disturbing truth. Chained men, victims of bonded labour, are burned alive. What begins as a murder mystery quietly expands into a damning look at exploitation in Punjab, where migrant workers from Jharkhand, UP and Bihar are trapped in inhuman conditions. It’s an uncomfortable reality, and Kohrra 2 doesn’t flinch from it.
The parallel track involving Arun’s search for his estranged father adds an emotional layer to the story, even when it momentarily diverts from the central case. Eventually, the viewers will understand why he is so important to the plot. (no spoilers here)
Visually, Kohrra Season 2 stays true to its roots. Shot extensively in Punjab, the series captures lived-in homes, fog-laced fields, and small-town spaces that feel real rather than staged. The Punjab setting is another win – the houses, lanes and barns feel real, not dressed up for effect. The fog, the fire, and the silence all work as narrative tools rather than visual gimmicks.
Both Barun Sobti and Mona Singh elevated the show with their brilliant performances. Meanwhile, the ensemble cast has done a solid job, making sure that even supporting characters feel real and layered, be it Johnny Malang's influencer girlfriend or the house help who left the night of the murder. The show doesn’t rush to tie things up neatly and that might test the patience of viewers looking for fast-paced thrills. But if you enjoy a slow-burn crime drama steeped in mood and moral complexity, Kohrra Season 2 keeps you hooked. However, Suvinder Vicky was missed.
Created by Sudip Sharma, the new season isn’t just about solving a crime. It digs deeper into what violence leaves behind – in families, in the lives of people who are expected to carry on despite their grief. It’s slow, grim, and emotionally heavy, but it’s also a worthy follow-up that trusts its audience to sit with discomfort instead of chasing easy answers.
