A cat-burglar struck at Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan's Bandra home on Tuesday night, stealing cash and valuables to the tune of Rs 88,000. The actor was out at a party with his wife Malaika Arora and son at the time of the incident.
According to the police, the theft occurred at Vida apartment on St Leo Road where Khan occupies the fifth floor. The theft was found when the actor and his family returned home in the early hours of Wednesday. "The building is under renovation and a scaffolding of bamboos has been put up. There are workers milling around in the premises. We are questioning a few suspects," said inspector Samad Sheikh of Bandra police.
Cops said the thief might have known that the actor and his family were out and scaled the bamboo poles to reach the flat. Khan had left one of the windows ajar and police believe the thief must have slipped in through it. Initially, the couple did not realise that their flat had been broken into till they noticed a half-open purse lying in the bedroom. "The purse had not been left behind at that spot by them. Khan noticed that Rs 10,000 in cash was missing," said a police officer.
"A pair of diamond earrings was also not to be found." The officer added there were other pieces of jewellery in the cupboard that were untouched. When contacted, Malaika Arora confirmed the theft. "I have the cops at my place right now and can't say anything more," she says. The case is being investigated under the supervision of zonal deputy commissioner Amitabh Gupta.
