LMAO! You are totally right about Amitabh putting up perfect desi man act in front of masses, with those kurtas, shawls, pujas, mandir visits, speaking in Hindi with that typical chhora Ganga kinaare wala accent. He knows shudh Hindi and English with an accent but he avoids that on KBC.

Jaya would also wear sarees and put pallu on head in pics for media earlier especially when Amitabh joined politics.

Aamir is always speaking in Hindi and pretends he is bad at English though he is a well read man (despite not studying beyond Class 12).

Relatability = Likability

As humans, we tend to gravitate toward people who are just like us. The more we find in common with someone, the more we like them. A celebrity's entire career is usually built around likability. The more likable they are, the more product endorsements they get, the more tickets they sell, and the more followers they have.

Most people do not like people who talk about living a luxurious lifestyle. Even matter-of-fact statements about having partied at an exclusive club in a foreign locale are scorned. So celebrities fake relatability. They say dal chawal instead of olive wagyu. Or they embellish their hardships or events some to be more relatable to people who have struggled to succeed.

This is all true but at times their stories of struggle or aam aadmi seem too fake, obviously fake, wannabe, exaggerated and desperate. Like RS one on vacation or that Amitabh sleeping on bench thing to make it look like this man was having a hand to mouth existence.

A lot of people do not know what an elite background AB Sr belongs to and how highly educated he is, how he was Rajiv Gandhi's classmate, childhood bestie and has played in backyard of Indira Gandhi's house and his mom knew Nehru and was a bestie of Indira Gandhi. Amitabh's managed to make this image of coming from nowhere and most people do not know partly reason for his good command over language is his elite and literary background and education at prestigious institutions. And his rise in 1970s has a LOT to do with his closeness to PM. AIR and DD have disproportionately aired Amitabh films and songs over those of others in the IG and RG era, making him reach more masses compared to any other star back then.

I dislike Amitabh speaking in that bhaiya accent in KBC too and trying to downplay his uber elite and well connected background.

Or Kangana's story of poverty when she is NOT poor at all.

It's the same way outsiders cry being outsiders & insiders having all the privileges. It's the way anyone with a little more privilege than the next person can't complain because they have it easier than them. Sob stories sells. Only the categories are different.
