Basing my answers on traditional astras that I know of from mythological texts.
Because fire and light are different. Think of agniastra as literally setting something on fire and suryastra as giving UV radiation burns.
They are all "nature" themed, as in forces occurring in nature.
Element as in why is there no strontium astra or why aren't earth, fire, wind, water, and heart not represented.
If former, the periodic table was undiscovered back then. If the latter, this is Indian mythology, not avatar or Captain Planet.
yes, agni and surya make sense
periodic table was undiscovered just means periodic table was undiscovered, doesnt mean the elements were not present, iron bronze ages were long before periodic table,
elements in indian mythology refer to panchabhooota or vayu, jal, agni, akaash, prithvi/bhumi
especially shiva is very strongly associated with them, there are 5 pancha bhoota temples/lingas (srikalahasti is vayu lingam, ekambareshwar is bhumi lingam etc)
then there are ashwini twins and surya, chandra, indra and stars
nandi is a vehicle of shiva, it is not force of nature, vanar are monkeys and come in ramayana they are not associated with shiva
if going for shiva, nandi, ganas, preth, pisach are all his friends
the point is from the trailers the list of astras looks incoherent, maybe the movie will explain and connect them but then we are all commenting on the trailer
and as for this is indian mythology and not avatar, why call it astraverse then, obviously he has tried to mix both
