Do even A-list actresses have star-power?

Priyanka Chopra's The Sky is Pink opens badly, putting to rest speculations that she would be welcomed back with open arms. It seems even A-list actresses in 2019 have a hard time with the box-office. Sonam's The Zoya Factor opened to a few lakhs only. Priyanka Chopra's Sky is Pink fares not much better. Alia's Kalank flopped big time, and Kangana struggles with each film as well.

Do A-list actresses have star-power, or it is only a myth?

They do, equal star power. You make big scale films with commercial appeal and audiences will throng theatres.

Offbeat films they all get same response whether a male actor or female actor is headlining it. Of course there are a few exceptions like Aamir Khan who has built a reputation for good film (but even he delivers low money spinners like Dhobi ghat)

But isn't content films working better at the box office nowadays? That's the assumption anyway. Sky is Pink has fetched excellent reviews.

Actresses like Alia, shraddha & saif daughter are PR creations with zero star power. Both sridevi (nagina) & Madhuri (raja) had films which were ripped apart by critics but ended up being a massive blockbuster.. can u ever imagine any of the current actresses in lead role making a critically derided film as blockbuster?

Proportional to the genre, content, and release period for opening.

Not sure why people ride-off actresses and films based on first show on a working day. I’m a huge Priyanka fan but will go at night after work.

They have some star power but not as much as the men. India is a male-dominated culture and most people don't run to watch movies that star women in the lead. They may watch it later on TV or streaming.

Mere brother ki Dulhan was a hit. It released a week after bodyguard and did respectable number.

Didn't Madhuri play a flowerpot role in Raja? The movie was about two brothers.
