Not sure, it’s a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Khans are Muslims, the prettiest heroines were from the south (Sridevi, Aishwarya, Deepika, Hema Malini etc), then there’s Madhuri who’s Marathi, punjabis like Akshay and Ranbir, Bengali like Rani too. Most of the movies seem based around Delhi and all that north related stuff though. But I don’t think it’s done deliberately, it’s more about rehashing a tried and tested successful formula cos the makers lack creativity and make the same sort of movie multiple times for hits. That’s why it seems predominantly north but it’s not actually.

I always thought that Bollywood is just a terms simply to refer to the industry that makes films in the Hindi Language. It's also what foreigners incorrectly call all Indian movies from any industry in India, as they think any Indian movie is "Bollywood" (So out of ignorance they say a Tamil film that we consider Kollywood is a Bollywood film, which we know is incorrect but they don't) There are other films from the North that are in languages that are not Hindi, they are different industries. Like in the South how Tollywood is for Telugu Cinema, Mollywood is for Malayalam cinema etc. Indian cinema refers to all India films regardless of the language/where it's from.

Some people are really against the -wood and think it should be just called Hindi Cinema and, other's are fine with it and always use the term. I understand both sides but don't feel strongly either way. I use both terms.

Are you talking about CASTE or Financial status?

Because as far as I know, Mithun is Brahmin.
