It's difficult for some/such body types to lose/regulate their weight even through fitness routines, especially after 30s.. They may be fit, but also have extra mass/weight..

I think the age(inching towards 40) and body type even if she does not have a health issue.. Some bodies are just genetically made that way.

Yeah, the extra mass/weight is because of two reasons which cause the body type to change after you hit 30: one is tricky hormones (but if you have conditioned your body to heavy lifting/CrossFit/gained muscle mass being a woman, it won't show on you). The second is fat redistribution after 30, like Matthew Perry during Friends, remember his neck got broader suddenly within a year. Another example would be Lauren Graham. They're very fit otherwise.
Vidya is just fat right now, she has no muscle mass for the broad physique she has. It's just fat.

OT: Vidya was never active tbh, and she doesn't seem to have a fast metabolism. After Bhool Bhulaiya her health went downhill. It is definitely her hormones which have gone out of whack since Bhool Bhulaiya, not just recently. Yes, she's gained more after BJ, it has been a slow process which makes me think it is not a serious case of thyroid or PCOD or other hormonal issues. Otherwise, her health would have worsened easily within a year. Some people suffer from the worst cases of hormonal imbalances, it is unfathomable.
There's nothing a correct diet, and fitness routine- read not talking about pink dumbells weighing 10 kgs, but serious, and correct weightlifting is very important for women, they should care less about looking manly and more about the muscle mass which loses density and slows down metabolism as they age. Even if it is thyroid, she can really improve her health right now too, by cutting out the carbs that are raising her blood sugars. Not saying she has to rock abs, but that extra fat needs to go or it will really worsen her condition. Hormones go out of whack as you age if you haven't paid any attention to your health, what you eat, how you exercise, managing your stress since you were young.

Off topic: All these women in BW have such a shallow idea about fitness, it really irks me, all those fad diets, and the incessant need to look very slim is beyond me. Alia used to look great before they ruined her body under pressure for Shandaar, the negative impact of which will show when her hormones go out of whack when she hits 30. Meh, just workout, lift oh dear god it is so important for women to lift!!! eat healthy food, it's really not that hard. If this woman can do it, so can you. -_-

I think Vidya has low metabolism body type which makes it difficult for her to lose weight once she gains it. She might be suffering from thyroid oder insuli issues. Also she is later 30s and it becomes difficult for the fittest to stay in shape post mid 30s. She was never really into fitness and exercise. And so her body probably reacts a lot slower than someone who has stayed in touch with exercise.

Bottomline there are a multitude of reason.

And I hope she becomes fit. Weight gain affects legs a lot too

You have written a very extensive and inclusive post. I just want to add something based on my experience.
If you have some prior hormonal problem, a new problem does not always show immediately. It takes a while begore you realise maybe X is not the reason and we should look into other things.

Normalization of Fat. Outside appearanxe of looking fine/ normal/ slightly chubby is a very bad detector. Massle index, Fat scan measurement are the real scale of measurement. I was very happy being slightly chubby. I thought I work out, dance and if I am not losing weight meh it's not like I am unhealthy. Until I went to the doctor and got a body scan.
Turned out I was Fat, not cutely chubby, had really really soft belly abd I was at the limit where heart attack would be a possibility. This when I have eaten healthy food lifelong, was conscious and worked out

I had to sort out mu food habits
Follow them strictly

Change exercise regimen.

Together with correct diagnosis and preventive measure t was possible to be in the medically healthy zone after 15 months

The added bonus was alim and toned body and appearance is a huge booster

Bold: Yes, which is why I feel Vidya always had hormonal issues since I saw her gain weight rapidly after Bhool Bhulaiya, if she is getting fertility treatments /(because PCOD affects fertility), the more weight gain is self explanatory, had she controlled her imbalances before, followed a proper diet that caters to her protein:fat:carbs ratios, these fertility treatments wouldn't have had such a huge impact. but she was always carrying so much fat, that now the medicines are worsening it, and if she does have a kid before she loses this fat, it's going to get tougher for her. not just lose fat but gaining muscle is even more important to maintain metabolism. anyway, that's between her and her doctor, I can just hope she modifies her lifestyle in a strict, consistent manner.

You're right about normalization of fat in those terms. You must have been skinny fat, which is a curse lol, you look skinny but underneath you could be breeding fat which can cause problems.
This is why I stressed on gaining muscle mass by lifting heavy especially women. Two people could have the same fat ratio but one having more muscle mass is less suspetible to health issues
vs the one with no muscle mass.
The weight on the scale is a terrible, inaccurate indicator of your overall health! That is why it is important to gauge yourself in the mirror, take measurements, calculate your fat percentage, macros-micros (more on the context below).
Some people look skinny on the outside, they would have love handles here and there and consider that normal, but seriously if you do not have muscle mass you will be in trouble sooner or later as you described.

I don't believe there is any weight related problem which correct diet, exercises, ayurveda and meditation cannot help. It's just people give up too soon thinking- oh we tried, we went on a diet, we exercised, the weight didn't budge blah blah. Few reasons for that would be:

1)exercise: For some cardio is enough, and resistance training, which honestly isn't always enough, so stressing that one starts lifting weights slowly and then transitioning into heavy lifting is important as you age because trust me it makes a world of a difference. You won't look like a soggy mess as you grow old.
2) food: Correct diet is as important as exercise, those two are interdependent to make an impact, they don't work in isolation. Most people can just get away with anything with just correct diet, but for others, they need to go that extra mile of strength training.
Counting macros and micros only come into play when you're doing both the things right, but your body is not changing. Counting, weighing can be an obsessive habit and only important when you know for sure the other two things are not working. Because it is so easy to eat more than your protein:fat:carb ratio requirement without realizing.

I didn't elaborate on the details because I knew it will become an essay, lol and so it did. Gist should be lifting heavy just like men w/o worrying you'll end up looking like a man, lol cause that is not how our hormones work but that's a different debate.

Good to know you took control of your life. It is so much work! One really has to put their mind to it, and I hope Vidya fixes it too because as you said it affects the knees too. Once the knees are gone, you're gone. LMAO.

Edit: btw, how can one get this awesome color you got? 😆
