CHAPTER NINETY EIGHT

'But seriously though... What is going on? I could have sworn Mr. Iyer was about to blow when my dad and mom walked in'' Said Sarika

'Well... After we left CIB Officers and everything, they found out about Ishita and her health problems. Now of course they were pissed as naturally expected and Ishita had to explain to them that she doing okay now.'' Said Bala as he and his wife took a seat and the rest followed

'Now normally after everything you would expect that your father at least, in the least show up here and thank her or apologize or try and make amends but nothing... Something Mr. Iyer didn't take too well I mean here was his daughter risking her life for very ungrateful people'' Said Sarika

'He was angry and pissed and rightly so... I mean Ishita gave up a lot for them to take it for granted but they also knew that in a way so did Raman... And in all fairness, Mrs. Iyer knew it would be unfair to blame him for his father's mistakes...'' Said Shlok

'So when everything settled down putting stuff in order to get back to Raman, everyone was on board except there was one problem...'' Said Abhimanyu

'Which was...'' Said Simmi

'Mr. and Mrs. Iyer...'' Said Bala

'Ishita... How long have you been taking these pills ...'' Said Mr. Iyer who was holding a bottle of Ishita's pills

'Where did you get those...'' She said standing up as she tried to take them from her father but he held back

'You are not answering my question...'' He added

'What is going on...'' Asked Mrs. Iyer who was walking into the room

'A couple of months, dad it is okay...'' She said trying to play it down

'So let me get this straight...You continued with all this nonsense even knowing you were ill...'' Said Mr. Iyer who was getting angry

'Papa... We were running out of time and we needed to act fast... They were drawing up warrants for him...'' Said Ishita

'Did you know about this...'' He turned asking Romi and Shlok

'No...'' Said Romi

'Yeah...But I tried to talk her out of it and she wouldn't listen... She is very stubborn...'' Said Shlok

'My God Ishu...'' Said Mr. Iyer

'Papa...'' Said Ishita

'What is going on...'' Said Mrs. Iyer

'She is relapsing but...'' Mr. Iyer began

'No... It was just something with the bone marrow...'' Said Ishita

'That doesn't make me feel better...'' Said Mrs. Iyer angry

'You will go up to no end until this man kills you...'' Said Mr. Iyer

'You are over reacting...'' Said Ishita carelessly

'Over reacting... Are you kidding me ...'' Said Mrs. Iyer angrily and that is when Ishita knew she was screwed

'Do you even have nay regard for what this family has been through because of that craziness you call a marriage with that man...'' Said Mr. Iyer and Ishita kept quiet

'He wasn't there when you were lying on the floor vomiting your guts out because of all the poison they were pumping into your body. He wasn't there when you cried in my arms because it was too painful, he wasn't there when you had to have surgery but we had no money to pay for it...'' He added

'Not once in those seven years has this love of your life even ever bothered to find out how you were or how his kids were. He was never apologized for what he put all of us through and yet somehow he gets priority over all of us...'' Said Mrs. Iyer as tears filled her eyes

'I am sorry... It won't happened again'' Said Ishita her voice breaking

'I don't get it... Aren't we enough for you... We have done everything to make sure that you are safe and healthy and okay and even care back here to save your ungrateful husband and in laws on your behest and now I am asking you to accord us a little consideration.'' She added

'Mom...'' Said Mihika who had an inkling of what was about to happen

'I want you to divorce him... It is the only way either of you will stay alive and happy even if you do not see it now, It is the right thing to do if not for you then for your kids...'' Said Mrs. Iyer

'Your and his relationship and always been one sided and if he hasn't learnt to be appreciative of you in the last 9 o so years then he never will an I can't have that...'' Said Mr. Iyer

'That is not fair... There was so much going on and you can't blame him for everything...'' Said Ishita tears welling in her eyes

'Okay... Fine... He got his memory back a long time ago and yet he has never, not once held his father accountable for anything... We have been back here for close to a year now and not once has he come here to see me or apologize for his part or even acknowledge the fact that my daughter is the reason he is a live and yet he somehow expects that you go back to him, no questions asked and I will sit back and watch... No way'' Said Mr. Iyer

'You are better than this Ishita... You are better than him...''Said Mrs. Iyer

'Mama... Papa, please I have lost 7 years of my life of my kids' lives growing up without a father and you want me to go through that again for what... No I won't...'' Said Ishita crying

'You promise me that once it was done, we were to move back to London and you would settle down with whomever I chose...'' Said Mr. Iyer

'Dad... That is just something I said to convince you to comeback...'' She said crying

'Well, I am cashing in on that promise... It is what I want'' He said

'But Papa, Please... I love him...'' She begged

'No... This is your promise to me, fulfill it. Unless you are good at keeping everyone else's promises but mine, this is what I want...'' He said

'That is how that went and that is how the all the proceedings began... It was bizarre and I didn't even think it would work but they knew all they had to do was play on her guilt which she has a lot of especially during the time we left India and the cancer and the money problems...'' Said Romi

'What happens to her children...'' Said Vidya

'Well, Ishita raises them and Raman gets holidays and visitation rights when they get back to India... Given he signed over custody to her, he really has no bargaining power, he either takes that or gets nothing'' Said Romi

'That was cold...'' Said Bala shaking his head

'But I still do not understand how any of this helps her. If anything it is like they are just punishing them...'' Said Simmi

'I agree...'' Said Suraj

'Okay, look at it this way, Mrs. Iyer doesn't trust Raman enough to take care of her daughter. I mean think about it, he was an amazing husband when it was good but when things turns south he bailed, not once after the pregnancy but twice even after the whole affair debacle... He always trusted everyone else except her and Mrs. Iyer was skeptical that assuming things didn't go well or Ishita fell sick again...'' Said Vidya

'Raman would never dessert her...'' Said Simmi

'Yeah, you know that but his in-laws don't. God forbid her cancer came back, do you how much to takes to take care of someone with that much less two children.'' Said Romi

'And there is that savior complex that Ishita has where she thinks she always has to save Raman even at her own expense...'' Said Abhimanyu

'Isn't that a good thing...'' Said Simmi

'Yes, for him... For her not so much...'' Said Abhimanyu

'Okay so how is this related to the divorce...'' Said Simmi

'Okay so they came up with a plan. Given both their daughters fell in love with Bhallas ...'' Romi began

'Whoa... Wait... What...'' Said Vidya

'Okay that is bitof news, what do you mean both of them...'' Said Suraj

'Mihika and Mihir have a history... A lot of unspoken feelings... She doesn't acknowledge then and Mihir, well he pretends he doesn't have them especially when she is around. I may or may not have said something about it to mom and dad...'' Said Romi smiling

'Why...'' Said Abhimanyu

'You're asking why... The better question is how... ' Said Vidya

'Why... Because they were hounding her about ,marriage and stuff and she kept on lying to them that she wasn't ready and all but I knew and quite frankly so did Ishita that for as long as Mihir was around, she wasn't going to settle down until she explored those feelings... As far as the how is concerned, I am not sure when she began having feelings for him but if I am to guess, it has to be around the time Ishita was working the Bhallas on that drug case the first time round'' Said Romi

'Oh God...'' Said a shocked Vidya chuckling

'You can imagine my surprise when I found out...'' Said Sarika

'You knew...'' Said Simmi

'Of course, Mihika is a friend and I know her. Just like Ishita, she hates as much as she loves and her hate for Mihir was so, so intense it almost seemed impossible. It had to be more than just what happened to Ishita...'' Said Sarika

'Plus there is the obvious, I mean each and every one blamed Mr. and Mrs. Bhalla as well as Raman for a lot of things and rightly so but Mihika, she blamed Mihir more. She was shattered when they sent her away for that deal. But given a lot that was going on with Ishita and the still birth and the issues with her dad, everything took a back seat.'' Said Bala

'Okay... So how do the Iyers think this is supposed to work out'' Said Vidya

'Simple... Those Bhalla boys have to convince then that a, they can fight for their daughters above everything and anyone even their own parents and in laws and b, they are worthy of them'' Said Shlok

'Why not just tell them that instead of all this drama'' Said Simmi

'Because then it becomes easy and it wouldn't be much of a test would it'' Said Bala

'So all this divorce debacle is a test...'' Said Simmi

'Yes and No... Those divorce papers are real and she indeed did sign them. Raman has to fight for her and to win, he has to not only win her over but also his in laws...'' Said Bala

'Plus Ishita is never going against her father, not this time...'' Said Abhimanyu

'Do you think they will succeed'' Asked Sarika

'Mihir... Yeah I believe he will... ' Said Abhimanyu

'Me too... I think in the last 7 years or even 8minths, he has had to sped a bit more time with them than Raman so I think he has an up relationship wise with the Iyers and unlike Raman, he is not in his father's hold'' Said Bala

'Hey Raman isn't either, not anymore at least'' Said Simmi

'I am not so sure... That is all yet to be seen'' Said Suraj

'Besides Raman also has lot more to prove given he has a lot to lose'' Said Romi

'So does Ishita know this...'' Said Simmi

'Oh No... She has no idea, none of them do ' Said Romi

'I think we should tell Raman, help him out'' Said Sarika

'No one is telling anyone anything... This is Raman's battle not yours'' Said Suraj

'Come on... All of us know he loves Ishita...'' SaidSarika

'Yeah... We do... But am not so sure that is the purpose of all this. The Iyers need to know he can take care of her, not that she needs it but it is good to know that someone can when it came down to it'' Said Shlok

'Besides, this is something between his wife and his in laws. He has to fix this himself...So under no circumstances should you intervene. Am I clear'' Said Suraj with authority

'Okay...'' Said Simmi putting her hands up

There was an awkward silence in the room everyone not sure how to react to that little tiff. Shlok wanting to break the ice said

'I do feel for him though...''

'Who...'' Asked Bala

'Raman... I mean his life has just been made a joke of for the longest time. I for one do not think all this is necessary. I think they were both to blame and have both paid enough for their stupidity but what do I know...'' Shlok answered

'Yeah... I hear you... I almost feel sorry for him too...'' Said Abhimanyu

'Oh Please...'' Said Romi causing all of them to laugh

'What... I do...'' Said Abhimanyu chuckling

'You hate the guy... In fact if it was up to you, you would have had him arrested 3 months ago let alone 4 years ago'' Said Bala

'Yeah... But I love Ishu... And she is my friend... He messed up, badly but he loves her... Seeing her with him I could tell she was happy... Even if she tried hiding it'' Said Abhimanyu

'And she was failing miserably...'' Said Vidya chuckling

'Okay I have to say something... How is it that you are comfortable with this...'' Said Bala looking at Vidya

'With what...'' Asked Vidya

'Him and Ishita... I find their relationship absolutely strange and I am not dating any of them...As a matter of fact I wouldn't have blamed Raman if I was in his shoes, he would have done the same thing'' Said Bala

'Clearly you have never seen Ishita and Raman together... And I am not meaning seeing them in a room together, I mean really together...'' Said Vidya

'Yeah she has nothing to worry about... Plus there is the other thing'' Said Sarika

'Which is...'' Said Bala

'Look at the way that one looks at her...She knows she has nothing to worry about, she won him over'' Said Simmi pointing at Abhimanyu who had begun getting uncomfortable much to the amusement of everyone else

'But on a serious note playing Ishita never really turns out very well in the end... There is a thin line between normal and crazy where she is concerned'' Said Sarika

'You're telling me...''Said Abhimanyu shaking his head as the rest laughed

'What...'' Said Vidya who didn't get the joke

'Abhimanyu thought it would be nice to organize a birthday surprise party for her. She had just gone through her first round of chemo and he wanted to cheer her up...'' Said Shlok laughing

'So he gives everyone something to do and asks us to make sure no one told her about it. It was working for a while but idle Ishita is not someone you want to be around... She somehow finds out something is off and begins investigating, you know you're screwed. Her brain begun playing tricks on her and before you know it, she is surveilling the guy Abhi had hired to as a party planner seeing as how all of us were failing at that'' Said Romi who began laughing as well

'Abhi had to meet him and to make sure of course things were going as planned. Now Abhimanyu in all his genuineness decides he can take Ishita out for the day as they decorate the house while at the same time handling the party planner who was in the same mall with them doing some last minute shopping...'' Said Bala

'Turns out every time the poor fellow followed themaround trying to get Abhimanyu's opinion Ishita thought he was stalking them and her head went to the worst possible place'' Said Shlok

'I swear I have no idea how shesurveilled the guy. Before I knew it she was having the guy arrested for harassment and stalking... Poor guy kept on begging saying he was just a party planner but she wouldn't listen' Said Abhimanyu shaking his head

'Ishu is crazy I tell you. A few people mean it when they say they hate surprises, but she... she genuinely loathes them'' He added much to the amusement of Vidya

'But weren't they decorating at the house, how did she get him arrested on the same day'' Asked Sarika

'She hacked the security cameras of the shopping mall and began looking for the guy, found him and had him arrested after smacking him around'' Said Shlok causing everyone to throw back their heads laughing
