Chapter 17
'Whatever is bhai's is yours after all he is your husband' she repeated and each time it felt new, something in her changed. Over the month she may have noticed him but she forgot exact changing man was her husband. Finally realisation knocked that they were married, they who lived like strangers; they who hardly saw each other; they who never spoke for a month until an hour ago were actually married. Again the memory of their hug refreshed her being. Could they be normal, like talk; smile and share?
'Geet what about this one' Anni pointed towards a shirt or trousers but Geet was too engrossed in her thoughts to take notice of anything.
'His my husband?' she questioned to no one in particular, oh how she remembered the husband that was. The one that hurt, humiliated and forced, but this Maan was different. He wasn't the one Brij requested her to divorce the day after the party nor was he the one she wanted to ignore. This Maan supported her when she nearly fell, and cared for others. She always wanted a man who the world respected and now Maan was exactly like that, even if the world didn't respect him. She did, she saw how the workers asked for his help when in need, or admired his character. This was a new Maan, and he was her husband.
'Geet hurry up' Anni dragged a thought-drowned Geet from one store to the next. Not knowing that her aim of bringing Maan and Geet together was initiated by a casual sentence she uttered. While Anni was busy hunting down outfits for Geet's work, Geet stood in front a jewellery store and stared at the Mangal Shutra on display. Clutching onto her's, she thought of her life and how it could be. Maybe it was time to walk of the same path as him, after all she was his lawfully wedded wife.
'Sorry' she mumbled bumping into a stranger
'Geet' he retorted taking several steps back to see the transformation, the women who stood in front of him was no longer the innocent and sweet looking Geet but she was sophisticated, modern and elegant. Yet the eyes spoke in volumes about her innocence and care.
'Dev, app' there it was, any other women would have abused or ignored but Geet wasn't any other women, she was brought up to be respectful. However the shock was clearly written on her face. Anni who stood beside her was equally surprised.
'Hi' he addressed looking at both the girls
'Can I talk to you?' he requested Geet after the initial greetings
'Geet tum jao, mein yaha hoo shopping' Anni encouraged, although she desperately wanted Geet happy with her brother but if Geet wanted otherwise then this time she wouldn't intrude. After all Geet deserved to choose, Dev or Maan, Anni would be equally supportive or at least she promised herself she would try.
'No you stay here' Geet said pulling Anni back, whatever Dev wanted to say he needed to express it openly. In front of Anni, so the girl could move on. It didn't escape from Geet, how Anni was still attached to this man even till date. For Geet he was a past, a long forgotten past.
'Erm woh main, I erm' he stammered looking from one girl to another, over the month he thought and thought, finally deciding to get back what was his. That is if she still accepted him as hers.
'I'm sorry' he whispered before she could walk off
'I wanted to ask you to come with me, that is if you're not happy with Maan' he confessed
'No thank you' her voice clear and crisp. Even if she's not happy with Maan, she was still married to him. He may be rude, mean, violent, and what not but he wasn't a coward nor a weakling. Maan faced his problems whereas Dev away from it.
Back in her bedroom she couldn't help but think of the man who left her, left her without knowing the truth. If he cared, if he loved her then he would have been given her a chance to speak but he didn't. He just fled the country like it's the only solution, and now a month later he wants her back. Well things have changed, she has changed. Silent cries broke her thoughts, walking out of her room she followed the yearnings to the room next door, where Anni stayed.
'Oh Geet tum yaha, is waqt' Anni immediately rubbed off her tears and tried to appear happy but a failing heart or its cries could never be hidden, nor in the past or the future. Especially in front of a women who was accustomed to it.
'Anni do you still love him?' Geet side hugged her friend wanting to be her support system
'I don't know, do you?' Anni questioned but seeing the other women laugh puzzled her. Funny how both the friends fell for the same man, gentle as he may seem but in reality he was just a figment of their perfect' man.
'No I don't, you know I used to picture it my head what will happen if I ever saw him again. I would to this and that. But today, I felt nothing, not even anger. Maybe somewhere deep I know whatever that was supposed to happen happened. Me and Dev was never meant to be' Geet told her true feelings of what she felt and hearing herself say it made it all the better. She didn't hate Dev, she didn't feel pain, and she simply didn't care. If someone means something to you then and only then you hold feelings but with Dev, right now he was just someone she knew and nothing more or less.
'Aur bhai' Anni pestered wanting to know her brothers value in her friends eye
'Will cross that bridge when we get there, but now what about you? If you love him, I can talk to him for you. Maybe it'll work' but seeing Anni's facial expression change Geet knew the answer
'No I don't want him no more'
'Are you sure?' Geet tired one last time but Anni rejected shoving her out of her bedroom
'Good night Geet' she kissed and then stood at the door witnessing Geet enter her room with a smile.
'It's my punishment Geet, as long as I live I will never want to be with Dev. After all I did I don't deserve happiness that lies in him' she stated to her empty room after a while she pulled out a lone picture from one of the books of the man she truly loved but could never have for the pain it'll cause Geet and Maan. Maybe partly because of the guilt that would resurface for ruining everything she once had for her one sided love.
On the other side of the mansion, cries of agony and pain could be heard. Maan stood in front of the mirror pelting himself for each tear he remembered on her face. When the assault couldn't render his emotions, he took to the ice block punching the solid cold object repeatedly but still her memory plagued his mind. Blood oozed out of his beings, but the physical pain was unaccountable compared to the emotional trauma he felt, and to know him and Geet will never be killed the Maan inside of him. Was it possible for a guilt ridden Maan and an emotionally strained Geet to ever be together? Was their past too big of a hurdle?
Next: The witch of west is back with a BANG
Note: I suppose you know who WITCH is, thanks to the previous teaser. Ok last update was of Maan's guilt trip and now it's Anni's, and obviously Dev needed to be back for the closing ceremony. Do answer my question, if you guys have forgiven him then I can move on to a happy couple sooner, if not then ...? UNSURE myself
PLEASE comment and like it helps me think better ;)
