Varun Dhawan is one of those rare actors who has succeeded in delivering a hit with every new release and now with the super success of director Remo D'Souza's dance extravaganza Any Body Can Dance 2 (ABCD 2), the actor has made his entry in the 100 crore club. According to trade reports, the film has entered the 100 crore club and has become the second film of 2015 to do so. Till Saturday, the films collection were Rs 99.68 crores and it entered in the 100 crore club yesterday. This is Varun's fifth hit in a row and it's a big success for this young actor as very few actors of his age circle have been able to deliver back to back hits. Ranbir Kapoor, who was considered as the next generation superstar after the super success of his film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, failed to maintain his success ratio, all thanks to his back to back flops like Besharam and Bombay Velvet. But Varun, so far, has never went wrong and has delivered hit after hit.
We got in touch with a few trade experts to know whether is Varun the next generation superstar...Film distributor and exhibitor Akshaye Rathi says, "He is already among the biggest stars of next generation. It's a rare incident where an actor's first five films of his career have been a hit and that's the case with Varun Dhawan. It needs talent as well as luck to have such a beginning in your career. With films like Student Of The Year, Main Tera Hero and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, he garnered a huge fan following amongst the youth and now with ABCD 2, amongst the kids. He is definitely going to be one of the biggest stars in future."Atul Mohan, Editor of Complete Cinema, says, "Definitely, he is the superstar of next generation. His father, director David Dhawan is the king of commercial cinemas. So he is just excellent in commercial films like Main Tera Hero and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and at the same time he is taking challenges by doing a film like Badlapur. So, there's a lot variety in him."Girish Wankhede, Distributor Entity One, says, "He has all the elements that a superstar needs to have; dance, comedy, and serious roles. He has proved himself in all these genres. Continuous five hits in a row, including a film like Badlapur, are commendable. Also, I think he is in a wonderful space right now. I feel he is a combination of Salman Khan and Govinda."Having a different point of view, trade expert Amod Mehra says, "He is a rising star but it was the youth factor which worked in his favour. If you see the films released in first half were not for the youth. Films like Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Piku were mature films. So this was the first film which youngsters could identify with. It was a film for college crowd and that's why it had a phenomenal opening and continued to do good business in the weekend. Also, it had no big opposition in the second week so it continued to do well."There's no doubt that Varun today has emerged as one of the most bankable stars from the younger generations and considering that he has some great projects lined up ahead like Dhishoom, Dilwaale and Shhuddhi in his kitty, he is definitely one to look up to!
