Chapter 14

Break Down and Realizations

Raghav just robotically walked along with all in shopping mall, still trying to figure out Kalpana. His restlessness was now almost reaching it's peak, as couple of tears for the first time made it's way out from his eyes too. Her silence and ignorance was pinching him. He couldn't figure out why it affected so much, BUT fact is it DID! He excused himself as he headed towards washroom, to wash his face. "Just leave me alone!" her words were piercing his heart...!! He wanted to assure her and help her out, but was feeling lost...

Her heart was pinching as she still recalled his panicky state and her outburst as she tried to help her. "It's better to just maintain complete distance, than to be hurt over and over again!" thought Kalpana.

Rest of the day went by shopping and completing other things which were meant to be completed before NRIs left back for their own nation. Though Raghav and Sammy probably waited for the this day ever since they had come, leaving back for USA was as difficult for them. Both had predicted the time in India to be rough and irritating, however none of them denied it was indeed blissful stay on their motherland. However, for Raghav going back even the more difficult for he was missing the chirpy driver he had been tolerating initially with irritation, but now things had changed. They were all in the car after completing their dinner, and tired too, yet SHE had not spoken a word. She seemed to be fine and normal while interacting with Sammy, Maya or Prem, but her different behaviour towards him was annoying.

"Now, Kalpana, I will give you direction for a surprise place, just follow instructions, ok?" Maya said excitedly. Kalpana smiled at her looking into mirror, "Don't worry ma'am, I pretty good at driving as per instructions, ..." she paused and shifted her glance to Raghav, "and this time, I am hoping the directions and ways are perfectly known..." she said... and continued, "Anyways, diesel tank is full, incase if we do get lost..." she taunted looking straight at Raghav through mirror and Raghav stared back at her. Mostly her taunts are light, which can be fired back and argued upon, but today her words while being sarcastic were purely bitter, he just looked back and tried ignoring the hurt he had felt. Kalpana too felt bad, as she once again focused, while Maya laughed out little, "No, Kalpana, don't worry, I know the way, I have been there for booking and stuff, so don't worry," Kalpana nodded with smile with her assurance and yet again looked at Raghav, who was now just looking outside the window completely silent and seemingly disappointed. She wouldn't ever want to sound rude to anyone, she had always been the one who would easily forget and forgive, but this time... This time it wasn't easy for her to just let things go...

Maya had perfectly directed through the way as they entered into gate of a beautiful place, which looked like... Which looked like a huge bunglow... consisting of beautiful lawn with colourful flowers around and decorated with lights. All of them looked around, as Maya instructed Kalpana to park car in a place allotted and join them. Kalpana initially refused to be part of the celebration, as she spoke, "Ma'am, how can driver be part of such programmes and functions, my job just includes driving you from one place to another." Sammy and Prem finally convinced her saying she was Best friend to Prem and had turned out to be their friend as well, as Raghav and Maya quietly walked ahead.

"So yes! This is the surprise I was talking about. This is my brother-in-law's bunglow, but they stay in UK, and after getting his permission and information, I opened it this morning before lunch and got it cleaned and arranged, so we can have some good time out to chillout," Maya stated, "and Aman, Nikita, Trishna, Varun and Ankita, are joining us too soon!" she continued telling Prem that Nikita and Aman are their old friends cum couple. Sammy appreciated the plan, considering they had been Mumbai yet never took out time to meet old pals in the city.

Friends joined in, and all of them were having good time on their last day in city. Playing several games, dancing, chit-chatting, recalling good old days and teasing each other was all that included in their enjoyment. Prem and Kalpana were briefly introduced by names to other friends. While Prem instantly mingled well with all of them, Kalpana was finding herself in the shell, looking at herself in such party, where all were stranger, except Sammy, Prem and Maya. All of them were enjoying with laughter, except Raghav, who time and again looked up to see Kalpana, sitting at the corner and smiling and talking to anyone who would approach her talk to her, she was part of several games too during the evening. Kalpana's eyes to met his, but she ignored instantly looking else-where talking to the someone else. Raghav's anger knew no bound, as he got up and walked inside the house section, which had bar and drinks placed in shelf. He asked the worker then to get him some and sat on the tall rotating chair (mostly the ones kept in bars). Sammy noticed him leaving and thought to ask him matter, for he didn't seem to enjoy anything, nor was his happiness at all visible on his face. Sammy entered the house, and signalled man to get him a drink too with smile. He placed hand on Raghav's shoulder as Raghav frowned and looked up when Sammy asked, "What's the matter?"

Raghav maintained silence on the question, as Sammy continued, "Raghav, please just tell me, I know something is bothering you! Ever since you have come back, I see you have changed a lot, I mean quiet a lot, neither was happiness of getting the project visible on your face, nor appreciation for MY HARDWORK." Raghav smiled slightly at his words for formality yet again. Sammy frowned looking at this form of Raghav, "Tell me or else, I will have to ask Kalpana about it, for your mood has been that of ever since you guys have been back from Palghar, nor has she been behaving normally!" warned Sammy making Raghav look at him, and man working there had brought them a drink. Raghav took that in his hand as he spoke, "Go and ask her! She is normal to all but me..." he said angrily and gulped down the content asking for more, he took over second, and man filled the glass up for third time!!! Sammy looked at him confused and tried stopping him, "Raghav?? Chuck it buddy, we are leaving tomorrow, I am sure something must be bothering her too or else she would never ..." But is cut by startle when Raghav screams, "TODAY IS MY LAST DAY HERE and ALL SHE HAS IS ATTITUDE and ARROGANCE TO SHOW ME!!" he said throwing the glass on the floor breaking it into pieces, "SHE IS THERE IGNORING ME!! IGNORING ME SINCE MORNING!!" he continued. The breaking of the glass had made many of them run inside and see drunk Raghav about to fall and Sammy holding him. Sammy apologized to Maya, "Maya, he isn't well and we need to leave for now...!!" he looked at Prem, "Tell Kalpana to get the car ready!" he said. While Raghav stood back on his leg, and started walking with help of Sammy. Maya placed her hand on his shoulder saying take care, and "Do come back soon!" Raghav smiled and excused himself.

Prem had rushed to Kalpana and told her to get the car. Kalpana was worried seeing Prem, but Prem assured her all was well. Kalpana got into the car and brought it out in a way to allow all of them to settle, she could see Raghav completely drunk and not in his senses like normally he would be. His eyes were drowsy but he open. Kalpana just looked at him through mirror and he looked back. Kalpana rolled her eyes ignoring any other question which would come to her mind, she started the car and drove off outside the plot.

Prem got a call after answering he looked at Kalpana, "Kalpana, if possible quickly drop me near the corner, I need to rush somewhere!" he said. Kalpana looked at him confused, "Is everything ok Prem?" she asked. Prem just nodded informing her about his dad's call to see him right now. Raghav was pissed off seeing her interacting with Prem, on trivial topics so casually, but not even once thought of asking his health and what bothered him!

Kalpana slowed down and stopped near the corner allowing Prem to get down. Prem wished Sammy and Raghav good night and informed them, tomorrow he will be on time for leaving for airport. Kalpana continued driving till the hotel where Sammy and Raghav stayed. Raghav got down with help of Sammy and Kalpana too got down from the car, to ask them for flight details for next morning.

After informing them, she would be around by 8 A.M. she turned around to leave giving no glimpse to Raghav, making him angrier than ever he held her by her upper arm and made her turn to him within split of the seconds she was made to face him, as he held her tightly on her upper arms, and Kalpi winced in pain for seconds of being held. But soon enough the pain washed away slowly as she looked into his angry glare with fear, as he brought his face closer to hers, "DON'T YOU DARE IGNORE ME Ms.Jadhav!" He said, while Kalpana couldn't say anything for a moments of shock. Sammy was stunned seeing Raghav holding her in a way which could be hurting, hence tried intervening, "Ra... Ragh... Raghav... leave her... She might be..." But his words were cut shot when Raghav looked at him angrily, "STAY OUT!" he screamed, and Sammy took couple of steps back, making intensifying Kalpana's fear as he heart beats increased when she looked at him as he turned towards her holding her and shuddering further, "WHAT HAS GOT INTO YOU!! WHY HAVE YOU BEEN BEHAVING SO RUDELY WITH ME?? DO YOU REALIZE HOW MUCH IT HURTS TO BE IGNORED! BEING LIKE A STRANGER AFTER SPENDING ABOUT A WEEK ROAMING N THE CITY" he asked in demanding an answer tone, when Kalpana still couldn't answer and look into him, "TWO DAYS!! ALMOST TWO DAYS, SINCE YOU HAVE GOT THIS ATTITUDE WITH ME, WHY?? WHY ARE YOU HURTING ME??" he asked in louder tone... Kalpana's voice was stuck and she couldn't speak anything as she as trembled with fear... "Sir, ... Sir ... Even I am human ... I too get hurt and injured" She said in broken voice as tears started rolling down her eyes, making Raghav realize his behaviour towards her as he loosened the grip on her arms, and she quickly backed off from him crying, as she tried sniffing and wiping off the tears as much as she can, yet feeling of bitterness and pain not letting the flow stop, "I too get hurt sir, not just physically, but also emotionally, mentally, in every other way!! Because I too am human... When inspite of doing your best for faults of other all you get is bitter words from other side, all you have to bear is wrath...!! It hurts me too... When there is no one around, when your own family members have left up huge responsibility on your shoulder and none of your work is appreciated to match up those expectation that a brother has from sister, or parents have from their daughter... Only the thing you get are words like disloyalty, ungratefulness ... But that won't stop me from doing my best, but Yes! I have and will now always try to avoid hearing such bitter words again!" she completed trying to compose herself ... Raghav looked at her sobbing and recalled the incident after his meeting in Palghar and his own words, "cheap mentality, of disloyalty and ungratefulness!" Unable to look at her crying form anymore, he apologized softly, "Sorry," and left from the place. Kalpana looked at his retreating form, and turned back towards cab, still sobbing slightly. Sammy stopped her by coming in front of her.

Sammy: "Tell me everything!"

Kalpana hesitated and tried avoiding under the pretext of being late, however, Sammy stopped her firmly and expressed his wish to know everything firmly. Kalpana looked at him and finally giving started telling him everything.

Raghav was pacing back and forth in his room wondering, was he too rude? And only answer that came to him was "Yes" from within himself. He had hurt her way too much, but she was late! And if she is wrong, shouldn't she be able to accept criticism? But maybe I was too harsh, on second thought I missed important conference because of her DELAY, maybe she had done it purposely too, she should be the one too apologize, ... So what if she didn't? Did that give me right to be so rude?... Many such statements came to Raghav from himself and were countered, defended, discussed and debated among themselves within his mind, and Raghav was just lost in this war of thoughts. This chain of thoughts were broken after long time with knock on his door. Raghav went ahead to open the door to find Sammy standing there along with some stranger, and Raghav looked at both of them confused. Sammy smiled as he came in with the person. Raghav looked at him and asked through non-verbal gesture, "Who is he?"

Sammy started speaking, "Raghav, yaar he is driver of some member in this hotel and he too resides in area around Palghar, ummm I believe Dahanu?" he confirmed with man and he just nodded as Sammy turned back to Raghav and spoke again, "I just requested him to come over with us to just explain you, HOW they get diesel tank filled up, if it gets exhausted while ridding and in middle of road.!" He stated without twisting any word and directly, making Raghav look at him realizing, something he has missed to know. Raghav tried ignoring all the matter, but Sammy was this time determined to tell him everything and wouldn't let things go, even if Raghav was tired and had flight next morning, and made him sit with driver explaining to him everything about the area and the problems they face in such situations.

Kalpana was driving back on her way, this time, she was feeling more relaxed and light. She smiled wiping the drops of remaining tears which had anyways started drying away. Her brother's refusal to be back for her father was indeed disappointing but the strength and confidence she had seen in her mother had made her overcome, and today speaking up and blurting out everything to someone about what had hurt her made her feel even better, "Rather complaining about Raghav Sir to someone like Jr. kg. Kid," she chuckled at analogy. "Tomorrow, this whole journey of one week comes to an end, and Raghav sir along with Sammy sir leaves the country. I will be normal, and give them sweet good-bye from my end, eliminating every bitter incidents of the whole week, and remembering only good times!" Kalpana decided with broad smile on her face and mentally apologized Raghav for hurting him.

Raghav on other hand was keenly listening to driver and Sammy, as he started recalling how he had asked her data from pendrive, her reaching the shop, somehow managing the internet connection and sending the file, her band aided leg, and her telling Prem it's due to continuous peddling of the cycle, and as waves of realization started wipping off any excuses he had realized to reduce blame on himself were now baseless, ... He realized, her efforts, her intentions, her work only deserved applaud and what he did was no less than inhuman. Sammy thanked driver as he left the room. Raghav stood there frozen drowning in pool of guilt, constantly apologizing her mentally, as well determining to himself, " I WILL APOLOGIZE TO HER ... I WILL NOT END MY WONDERFUL VISIT TO INDIA ON ANY BITTER NOTE!". With this determination he laid down on bed recalling all the wonderful time he had in the city.

Meeting her on first day, Her carrying their luggage, Kalpana driving them to Gateway of India and not to forget that Pani-Puri competition, Smile appeared on his face when he recalled how he won and lost there at the same time, her giving him chocolate post the whole competition... Evening when they walked along after knowing her silly prank from Sahil, her in balcony of the room and his wish to hug and kiss her, torturing her by keeping Kalpana hungry, and her "Uninteded Revenge" by travelling through train, their moments in train when he was pushed towards her in train, standing near the door and speaking to her...

All these are moments to cherish... Soon the smile faded when he remembered, Prem's words about their relationship... He thought of stopping there with memory lane, but his heart had been trained to not ever miss their journey to Palghar, first via car, then travelling by bail gadi and then truck, with all these things on his mind he drifted off to sleep.

Kalpana laid down on bed, wondering if something had missed out on something? She is not feeling to happy?? What is bothering her? Is it the thought of Raghav and Sammy sir leaving she thought for split of second, but her direction of thoughts took a turn when she saw family photo hanging, and considered, her brother's words to be the reason of her stress... Kalpana too soon drifted off to sleep.

Precap: Prem introduces Raghav to a man, "Sir this is Rishi, Kalpi couldn't make it, hence he will drop us airport!"
