Thank you ray! Yes! She's not totally over it. I have no authority to talk on this matter, but from what I have seen mostly on Oprah. It's really very difficult to get over it 100% the ghosts from her past will keep haunting her.
She kept putting her hands together and begging for her loving daughters forgiveness. For not willing to see the signs, for putting her through hell when all she ever wanted was to create heaven on earth for her. She promised her mother she holds no grudge nor held her responsible for what ever happened to her. That she's ok now. She's lived through it and she's come out of it a victor. She would've said anything to make her mother feel better.
Kalindi promised that she's gonna divorce him and she would come and stay with her.
The day after she got a call. The call that anybody would dread to get...saying that one of your loved ones is no more. For Astha it was her only loved one in this whole world. Her life stopped. She stopped living. She does not know how she got through her mothers funeral. Who came? who said what. All she remembered was that her mother is no more.
Nothing else mattered to her. She was all alone. And she is the only witness to her morthers' existence. And who's gonna be her witness? Kalindi, was brutally killed by her husband and who in turn turned the gun on himself. It was a closed casket funeral. Just like that justice was served. But for whom?
She buried herself in studies, no dating she hardly went out she didn't have many friends. She had few good friends. Who tired to help her, but she had put up a wall around her it was higher and thicker than the Berlin Wall. They all thought she was an introvert and they weren't harsh on her. Most of the time they just let her be. She was left to go through life.
She was a bright student. She got into the university of her choice with a full scholarship. She went to med school. And fulfilled her mothers dream of becoming a doctor. She did ever she remembered her mother talked about. What ever Kalindi wanted her daughter to be. But She never forgave her self for what happened to her mother, she held her countable. Your honor! I'm guilty. Guilty of killing my mother. She was jury the judge and prosecutor. No defence. She forfeited.
She wanted her life to amount to something all the sufferings endured by her mother and by her needed to have an end product. This was certainly not that. She questioned many a time if only... If only she's kept her mouth shut her loving mother would be still living her happy life. But deep down Astha knew she did the right thing and even her mother wouldn't have had it another way. She knew in her heart, if the same had happened to another little girl because of Asthas' silence, she would never have been able to live with her self. But what's about now, see what happened to her own mother?
What about her biological father? What ever happened to him? All Kalindi had told her was that he died in a road accident before she was born. But the truth was way bitter than that...
Contd...
She was an orphan and when a good looking Yale educated young man from a well respected rich family wants to make you his wife, wouldn't you be counting all your Lucky stars. She was extremely pretty and they made a picture perfect couple.
But there was something not right, she felt that the very first night when she saw him looking at a magazine with naked men. After few weeks the newly wedded Mr. & Mrs. Sanjay Kirloskar left india and settled in America. That's where he was working for a reputed law firm. She was naive and didn't know about the big bad world that awaited her. She spent many a lonely night. She soon realised she was just his namesake wife. Just to shield his family from gossip and humiliation.
When she found out she was pregnant, she couldn't wait to tell her husband of 5 months. He accused her of infidelity and demanded she get rid it. His decision was final. It was either his way or the hjghway. So, She just walked out and never looked back. She got a job as a waitress. Finally the private English lessons came very useful and Kalindi raised Astha the best way she knew she could.
Few years after she left him he was killed in a road accident. She was asked to come for the hearing of his last will. He had left her his house and a trust fund for Astha. All of which she didn't take.
But she had forgiven him long back for his lies and the manipulation. She understood, he too was trapped by what society dictated as right, just and acceptable. He wanted to keep his parents happy, give them what they wanted. She was the victim. But in a way Kalindi was grateful to him for giving her a life. He was never abusive, More than anything else for giving her, her witness, Astha.
