Hi all...as it is impossible for me to respond to all individually ...I am condensing the major points and responses here...(I have read all the responses and thanks a ton for highlighting different facets of the same situation..loved em all)
First and foremost I have read that Rudra is responsible for this fiasco...the enforced marriage and rituals...First Rudra brought her home...his immediate senior was aware of it...and after bringing her home, a pretext had to be supplied a reason for her presence which was circumstancial...
ok my point...Rudra was a soldier...doing his work, protecting her to the best of his abilities...and coercing, threatening manipulating a witness, breaking a hostile witness is part of his job. Time n again I have pointed it out that this was quite mild coz it was fiction...in reality men in uniform go to intolerable lengths when they deal with such witnesses, who side with the scum of society, especially terrorists. In short, Rudra had a reason, we might think this was wrong, not valid...but in reality, it was. Rudra was on the right side and Paro on the wrong. Yes, she suffered and it was heart breaking...but the bottom line...she was on the wrong side, standing with a mass murderer, a man who not only supplied arms but also helped in human trafficking... and Rudra was on the side of law. His means were wrong (and once u deal with such people there is no wrong and no right) but his intentions were loud n clear. His aim very patriotic. Paro's sufferings were collateral damage...very harsh, very bitter, very unpalatable...but true. And if anyone was responsible for her plight...It was not Rudra...it was TEJAWAT. It was psychological warfare.
Having said that, the enforced marriage left a bitter taste in the mouth, made mine and am sure every female's blood boil cause it was intolerable to the extremes. And this happens in real life a lot, so there can be in arguments in favor of such acts. period.
If I hated Paro being forced into matrimony, how can I endure Rudra being forced into one too?? If its the worst punishment for Par, how can it be not the worst for Rudra too?? I yell for Paro's rights and I don't shout out for Rudra's fundamentals?? Heck No...this is a love story, with two characters...and I love them both. There has to be the same yardstick.
Now coming to society's thinking about Rudra and Paro equation...the whole world now knows that Paro was a witness under BSD's protection, and Rudra was the officer in charge. So, if they come to know that it was all a faade to protect a witness, they wouldn't be surprised or shocked.
If Paro would not have publicly made such a huge statement about her love and commitment and proposal for marriage, would the society have created an issue?? Would this have come under the scanner?? is my question. She by her actions, drew everyone's attention. And no Rudra, did not force her to do this. This was her decision, to rush to the award ceremony (what was the need) and declare openly and publicly and ask him to marry her, and consequently drag the society and the whole world in this mess.
I felt Paro was just thinking about herself, talking about herself. Her beliefs, her faith, her protector, her love, her destiny, her marriage...Rudra was not even a factor. There are two people in a love story, here Paro has written her love saga keeping just herself in mind, Rudra's unwillingness does not faze or affect her at all. In this love story, its all about her.
Also the points that it feels good when the tables are turned on Rudra or on a man for a change...well I cant argue with that..can I??😆 And that women suffer so much, that when men do sometimes...it feels refreshing...err have to agree to that too..right??😃
Rudra did it, so Paro can do it too...but Rudra did if it for a different reason, Paro's reasons are totally different. Rudra's were not about himself, Paro's don't take anyone else into account. Where is the compariosion?? Rudra's marriage proposal happened for a different cause, Paro's have a different shade.
On a serious note, the arguments here are forcing me to take sides, which I practically hate. This post was not about who is right and who is wrong..I love them and despise the fact that in order to present one side of the story or justify one's actions, I have to pull down the other, or throw one lead in bad light. In defending one, I end up condemning the other.
So, instead I prefer to close this post. Hope my buddies will understand and forgive and forget. Thanks all for some awesome povs and thought provoking comments, presenting both sides of the story.
