Portrayal of relations on TV

So I dont watch many soaps, but I do watch Kasam Se. The strong attraction and love between the main leads drew me into the web of this show, but of late it is getting on my nerves.

The main reason is how they chose to show relationship and brutally murder some of the most revered relations

1. Sister-sister/ mother-sister: How can one sister, who is practically raised by the other, deceive her in the worst possible way and go to the extent of killing her?

2. Husband-wife: which rich/ powerful man sends his wife to the loony bin instead of trying to free her from the charge of a murder which she obviously did not commit.

3. Mother-son: Do mother's kill their alive sons without even asking them why they did what they did?

This is only some of it.

My point with this post is to see how you feel about the portrayal of relationships on other dramas u watch?

If u want to discuss KS... come to the KS forum.

The rest of the dramas and the topic in general can be discussed here.

It was way long back time to stop watching KS IMHO. All Indian serials start out great and than director does not know what to do so they drag it out and make mockery out of it at the end.

First off who calls their own husband Mr. Walia in 2007 😕 When I heard that first time and saw how old he looked and how young she looked I said time to watch JLH 😉 😆

I rather see Dadigiri VS Walia giri 😛

Only ever seen one episode of KS...The entrance of that anjaana adbhoot smexy Dev 😳😆!

But anyway...Yeah, the relationships are potrayed in a very unbelieveable light! But then again that's all due to the Trp game! But I mean there are idealistic relationships too e.g. in Kyunki, there was Savita-Tulsi, Baa-Tulsi, Mihir-Tulsi, Karan-Tusli...Ok enough of the Tulsi overdose 😆! And these are relationships some perhaps look up to and learn from! So it's not all bad!

the problem with indian shows is that they have no creativity and they play trp game. once a show becomes popular , the director/producer drag it for some 2000 episodes until it starts to get on everyone's nerves. for a story to survive 2000 episodes , it has to go through all sorts of wierd and abnormal situations. when it comes to kasam se , they could have ended the show nicely by showing all sisters succeed in thier lives but they had to mess it up. it is same in kskbt..honestly the history is repeating itself and so there is no fun watching it.
another good example was jjkn....the producers had no idea what to do...they did not follow the original story, they did not change the story to make sense. when i see the american version ugly betty...it is amazing because so much effort is put in developing each character...daniel(armaan) is a playboy but has kind heart, betty(jassi ) is ugly but strong and reasonable. on the other hand south east asian shows are best since they finish up the show before people start losing interest. i hope someone looks at these shows and gets inspired to make shows with some sense.

i too feel that relations are being portrayed in a really bad way in a lot of tv shows .... but this isn't restricted to indian television ....... tune into any american soap opera and you'll see what i mean 😆

the funny thing is that whenever i thought of these story lines i always felt that these were completely stupid and had no real life basis ... i honestly felt that no one would do these sorts of things in real life ......... that was before i came across two horrible things:

(1) i saw a story once on dr. phil about two sisters-in law (a bhabhi and a nanand) who hated each other so much that they had gotten each other fired from several jobs .... had sent each others pictures to obscene sites on the internet, and in fact had wished each other dead (i think one of them actually tried to run the other one down - but don't quote me on that 😕)... before seeing this i had honestly thought that all the horrible things that nanands and bhabhis do to each other in tv shows was the result of some really creative writers and producers looking for some masala in their shows ... i think differently now

(2) i read about a woman who's house was put up on a public listing as being up for grabs for free while she was out of town ... her house was mobbed and gutted .... people from far and wide came, took all her stuff (and i mean everything ... cabinets, baseboards, even the kitchen sink) and she returned to find her house practically in pieces ....... but the saddest part of the story is that the prime suspect was the woman's sister who had been kicked out before the woman had left on vacation ..... i don't know what happened and if it really was the sister ... but the fact that she would be the prime suspect really does show you that blood relations don't necessarily stop you from hurting someone

@p.j04 - i do agree with you to some extent ... a lot of what happens in a show comes down to trps, sponsors, and indulging the tantrum-throwing actors .........

i feel that the problem with these messed up relationships is not that indian tv show producers are highlighting them ...... the problem lies with the fact that too many of these producers are relying on these to make their show run ...... as i said, you'll find all of these stories in american soap operas .... but these soaps are restricted to being broadcast for a few hours in the afternoon whereas these kinds of shows make up the prime time schedule in india .....

so basically the portrayal of relationships on indian television is not entirely wrong ..... it is just being given to us in extreme overdoses 😆

Yeah I think it's the actors the keep people hooked onto them too! E.g. I only watch Kasauti because of Ronit Roy! As sad as that may be 😆!
