keeping her at home was a much more worse thing to show
like i said not for the sake of argument , when this show started the makers claimed to have done sufficient research
and i can bet my last dollar if they show all this witness torture track and army like this in a movie , the movie would have never got clearance from the censor board
isnt it unfair both TV and cinema has the same kind of reach , and in some cases i feel TV reach has higher reach than cinema , then shouldnt the makers show the same kind of responsibility
i am not saying they should make shows praising the army , i am saying they should not mis represent
BTW i am priya
I agree about the lack of research, Priya. I have no idea what the research was for, since we have a totally twisted view of the armed forces. Maybe they concentrated on the behavioural aspect and very little else, if any.
I agree with Sush about shows making a true representation of something. More research would have helped. There is no consultant of board, to help them out with the protocol issues. Plus, they tend of dumb down things. All said, this is a love story with the backdrop of army, and not vice versa. I am not sure if you watched LRL. That was gross misrepresentation... a show which was based on the army... the training.. creating officers/soldiers from young men and women. It was worse there since they had a consultant on board... the rank of a Colonel. The show did create a lot of brouhaha. The male lead quit for the same reason. The fauji kid in him could not accept the way the army was depicted.
Let alone the army, see the way the police is depicted in movies and tv. They have it far worse than the soldiers. A thankless job. Little or no respect. People jumping down their throat at any chance. In fact, barely any research goes into the technical details, irrespective of the field. Just check out other shows GH worked on. The one based on doctors was a complete disaster... bordering on a spoof. Another had a court scene where a college kid putting forward the case... the defense lawyer just nodding her head in agreement. And how can I miss the 'ping pong' bullet. Shot in the shoulder, and paralysed waist down.
I too am against censorship. Army has its own set of black sheep. And corruption. Makes it worse since these people have the responsibility of national security on their shoulders. In fact, I was glad they brought in the court martial track. If it was something brushed under the carpet... it would have been a worse misrepresentation. Rang de Basanti brought forward the corruption in the defence forces and ministry, and how it all is blamed on pilot error. Had issues with censor board and the army/air force. But I am personally glad such a movie was finally allowed to screen.
Coming to kidnapping Paro. Here again, mighty wrong in showing an army officer do that. But it was on his personal accord. Had he set her up in a cantonment with a RP watching over, it would have received serious flak. About not following Paro, the lines are blurred here. Technically, the man was getting married on that day, and not on a mission.. officially. What he did was on his own accord. Had he sought clearance, got a team of armymen together to nab the Thakur. And THEN not followed Paro to save her from the Thakur and nab him... but leaving midway for the hospital. That would have been dereliction of duty.
