My dear Priya,

For once, I am completely in agreement with you!😉 Especially wrt @blue. The only point on which I disagree: why should you be 'sorry to jump in' ?

I would only add, as I have said in my post above, that if Ovi did not want a child, she should never have had one in the first place. It is the easiest thing to do these days. Why arrive at a situation when she has to either murder her child or continue to whine and nag all the time, making life worse for all concerned? She decided to have the baby for her own reasons, and she is not doing anyone a favour by doing so, including Arjun, though one would not realise that seeing the way she carries on.

It is the same as regards her and Arjun. As you would have seen from my post, if you have been able to look thru it, I too feel the same. Ovi married him knowing the score full well, and so why should she expect him to love her now?And no husband can be expected to fall in love with such a acid tongued shrew. I am still looking for a stout enough slipper to wallop her with.😉

The part about kids in bad marriages is also spot on.The person, or potential person, I feel the most sorry for is Arjun and Ovi's kid. I am sure it would never have wanted to be born to such dysfunctional parents, and would probably run away given half the chance!

Sorry to jump in.

Generalizations are always odious. To each their own.

Insisting on foreign care just among other things shows lack of information. Ovi doesnt know that the doctor here is better. Maybe doesnt have a way of knowing. That is not the crux. The real point is why is Arjun the one to inform her of a specialist. Isnt Ovi informed and familiar with technology. Does she need someone to tell her who a specialist is. Cant she do her own research. If she doesnt want her child, she should have aborted it but to blatantly ignore her health condition which could be detrimental to a child speaks volumes of her true character. Its wilful negligence and punishable by law in most places.

As for lacking Arjun's love, didnt he declare just six months ago that he loved another. Why did she stick in the marriage - in the hope of creating love in his heart with her snide remarks??? Ovi in short doesnt know what she has created for herself and holds everyone but herself accountable for her current state. You always have a choice in life, its just a matter of whether you choose to exercise it. A privileged girl like Ovi doesnt need to suffer a non working marriage.

Of course none of this absolves Arjun. Why is he married to Ovi still? To look good to Purvi when he meets her? Why not release Ovi from this fake relationship. He can be a great dad to his kid from afar. This whole BS of kids fructifying marriages is just that. No kid should be made to fix a broken relationship. They all need secure happy homes and if you cant give them one, atleast give them a loving single parent.

Purvi, sigh..I cant even begin to start...

To all who says that Arjun didn't promise to love Ovi, I have a question seriously, since I myself is a bit dumb in the matters of the heart;

Then what did Arjun promise Ovi specifically, when he wanted a second chance with her??

Thanks Gaurav, so his second chance with Ovi was just to sleep with her, I didn't understand that that at that time, my bad. I guess, I have lost all respect for the character now, not that I had much to begin with...sad...

My dear Kalapi,

As far as I could make out, he wanted to make a go of the relationship, but that need not mean love, and especially in his case, I am sure it did not mean love.

On the other hand, it could perfectly well have meant mutual respect, understanding, caring, and loyalty. I did not see any indication in PR, as I have seen it till now, that he promised to love Ovi, and in any case, one cannot fall in love with another person to order. If Ovi thought he was going to fall in love with her, she was foolish. I once wrote that she had bought a house with a mortgage on it, and all she could hope for was that over time, the mortgage would be paid off, but if it never was, she would just have to live with that.

In any case, I think romantic love is a highly overrated sentiment, and is much less common, even in the West, than the poets make it out to be. In India, where arranged marriages are still substantially the norm, no one thinks of love in the romantic sense, though this is not to say it cannot happen between a husband and a wife. What they aim for is a sold relationship based on the aspects I had mentioned above, plus a sense of belonging together and with their children. Hundreds of thousands of marriages the world over thrive on these foundations, and they are none the worse for the spouses not being 'in love'.

On the other hand, what Ovi could and should have done, if she wanted Arjun to care for her a lot, was to use the child, about whom he is now obviously hung up, to keep him close and involved with her. However, the way she is behaving now is calculated to produce exactly the opposite effect.

Moreover, as a mother myself, I think very poorly of any woman who cares so little for her own child. A normal mother, even one abandoned by her husband, invariably strives hard to protect her child to the maximum she can. I have seen it even in very poor women who could barely make both ends meet by working all day. Some of them had highly abusive husbands to cope with as well.

When I think of them, and look at this spoilt, self-centred brat-woman, who does nothing but complain, does not care whether she poisons her unborn child with liquor or not, and who whines that she cannot stand the baby's kicking, she makes me sick. I have read your eloquent defence of her behaviour, seconded by Kools and Varsha, but I am afraid I am nowhere near sharing it , and I am still looking for that slipper!😉
