Amit Jadhav ‘almost committed suicide’ after alleging Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara copied his short film Khwaabon

Actor singer Amit Jadhav has alleged that the film Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri, closely resembles his 2019 short film Khwaabon. Speaking about the issue, Jadhav claimed he was surprised after noticing similarities between the two projects. The musical romantic drama, featuring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, emerged as one of the widely discussed films of 2025. However, Jadhav now says the storyline reminded him strongly of the narrative he had already explored years earlier.

In a conversation with HT City, actor singer said he tried to raise the matter with the makers but did not receive any response. According to him, the first interaction happened earlier when YRF Talent had contacted him on social media. He recalled that the message came through Instagram in 2022. Sharing the details, he said, “I had received a direct message on Instagram, from YRF Talent in 2022, they wanted to get in touch with me. I asked them which project they are reaching out to me for, they didn’t answer. I didn’t know anyone there, neither had I given any audition for them to reach out.”

Jadhav said the issue became clearer to him after the film’s release when people around him pointed out similarities. He explained that several friends contacted him after watching the film and discussed the resemblance with his short project. Describing his reaction, he said, “I was shocked. I tried reaching out to them, even going to their office but my friends said they won’t entertain me or reply.”

The situation, he added, affected him deeply at a time when he was already struggling professionally. Speaking about that phase, Jadhav said he went through a difficult period. He said, “I am a singer, so I kept getting work, I relaxed a bit because of that. But one day I almost committed suicide. I was sloshed, my parents saw and that’s how I got saved. I felt like the world doesn’t want me to succeed. I was not called for any auditions.”

He also shared that he had planned to expand Khwaabon into a full length film and had discussions with producers earlier. According to him, the plan changed after Saiyaara released. He added that he emailed YRF twice but received no response. “I should get some credit. Or I can be cast in some role at least in some project. That’s all I am seeking,” he said.
