Hi guys, I am back with another FF. This one has the potential to turn into a multi chapter fic as I have many sub plots planned. I will keep it as long or short as you guys want. If you get bored, let me know, and I'll wrap it up.
Dev and Sonakshi are married in this story. Let's start
PROLOGUE
*Present Day*
One should not have to brave the rain at 1 AM for an ice cream run just because one lost a bet that was rigged from the get-go. What kind of a man makes his wife run for icecream while they are on a romantic weekend getaway, thought Sonakshi. If Dev had been any kind of gentleman he would have run the errand himself.
"Not it" he said instead, tapping his index finger to his nose as soon as she had come back to bed and informed him that the hotel was out of mint chocolate chip.
First she wasted five minutes bargaining: "I'll give you a back massage when you come back"
He had kissed her nose and patted her butt out of bed. "I don't believe you. Plus, I went last time."
She grumbled the entire time it took her to dress, declaring he'd never see her naked again. It was an empty threat and he took it as such, returning to his book before looking at her again.
"I'll make you a deal : Name the day of the weekend when I first kissed you. Saturday or Sunday? Get it correct and i'll go"
She rolled her eyes at the stupidity of his question. Who remembered what day it was when they kissed? Date was understandable. But day? Dev was such a girl sometimes, Sonakshi thought.
"Saturday" she said confidently. On seeing his poker face, she faltered. "Sunday?" she tried.
He grinned. "First admit defeat."
She rolled her eyes heading toward the door. "I'm going, I'm going"
"Trick question. We first kissed on a Wednesday." He resumed reading. "You should really trust your instincts, Dr Bose"
She stared at him from the doorway. Shirtless and propped up against the pillows, he wasn't reading a word. He was too busy smiling at his own cleverness.
"Obodhro" she muttered, turning away from their bedroom.
So now, as she exited the convenience store outside their resort, she made a solemn vow that he'd never get a bite of that icecream. Sonakshi knew her anger was uncalled for, after all the store was just next to their resort. It wasn't even a 2 min walk. But the fact that he managed to con her into going, got on her nerves. She crossed the road and ran towards their resort, battling the rain. On the way, she slid on a slick patch and wavered for a moment, arms extended to help her catch her balance. She let out a short breath of relief; no need to have her gray matter decorate the parking lot. She walked the rest of the way.
Cold, her fingers dropped the room keys onto the wet gravel.
"Damn," she said, dropping on her haunches to pick them up. When she stood, her breath caught at the figure in front of her.
"Got any change?" The man wore gloves with the fingertips ripped off. He looked drunk and terrifying.
Still breathless from surprise, she swallowed and said, "I could buy you something to eat instead?" Her head nodded in the direction of the store behind them. The rain soaked the brown bag and she felt it grow heavier in her hand.
"I'm not hungry"
Maybe it was her history of treating drug addicts and alcoholics, but something compelled Sonakshi to shake her head. Keeping her voice gentle, she said, " I'm sorry, I don't think I have any on me, but are you sure I can't get you something to eat? I'm staying at the resort right here. You could have a meal."
The bag tore and the carton of ice cream fell to the pavement. "Damn," she said again, bending down for the second time.
The first blow stunned her and her knees hit the ground as she willed the ringing in her head to cease. The second one flattened her and gravel dug into her cheek as she stared ahead. Before the third blow afforded her darkness, she saw the carton rolling on its side under a car.
It would melt soon.
