Chapter 3
Arohi woke up in the morning looking into the mirror. Seeing unfamiliar reflection but it turned out it was the footsteps she chased. Peeking through her eyes she saw the broken illusion about him loving her. Looking at a completely dissimilar version of her, a little voice floated. Truth for her, but a hidden secret for the rest. Her swollen eyes draped silent tears, making her eyes wet without any reason. As she threw cold water on her face, it sunk everything, the weight; the most frightening memory leaving her no choice but to forget everything. She had no control. She got dressed and made her way downstairs.
Wrapping her mother tightly, the warmth spread to her entire corpse. Smiling at her mother who
Was teary eyed, she wiped her tears away. "Mom please do not cry, i'll be fine." Arohi said softly taking hold of her mother's hand. Forcing her mother to smile she squeezed her mother firmly for the last time. Arohi said goodbye to her father, brother, sister and grandma. Arjun, who was stood in the background, was the last to say goodbye. He stood there with his hands buried into the pockets of his jeans, holding back the tears which her never spilled. The bitter taste in his mouth was painted with strokes of everything. In a bullet proof vest, with the windows all closed, he spoke in his mind that I'll do my best. Glancing at Arohi through his hazel eyes, her footsteps were coming towards him. Embracing her with a simple smile, "take care of yourself." He said as his mind drowned like a stone trying a find a place on the surface. Arohi took out a pendant from her jacket." Remember this?" she said as she dangled it beneath his sight. "Yeah I do, how can if ever forget." Arohi let out a little giggle to hush the coiled pain. "You saved you pocket money, so you could buy me this pendant for my 13th birthday." Arjun sighed," after that you got yelled by your ami, when you told her that you spent all your savings on new pair of expensive shoes. You lied." He laughed evenly," how could I stop myself? Your eye was set on the pendant the first time we walked past shop, when were coming back from school." Arohi took hold of his hand delicately placing the pendant in the palm of his hand."I want you to keep it from now on. Please don't say no." As she held his hand for protection, Arjun took a moment before he replied back. "Okay I'll keep it, but why?" he listened intently. She observed his face as she mapped it out line by line," there is no reason. You'll find the reason." As his conscious mind took a journey through the haze, the car began beeping indicating to Arohi that its time to leave." Take care of yourself Arjun and when you become IAF officer do share the news with me. After all I do deserve it all those years of listening to talk about planes." He nodded trying to keep his expression neutral. "yeah you do, take care of yourself." He voice began to break as he knew the time was failing. She let go of his grasp, Tears came to her eyes she fixed back her sunglasses on her face so no one could see her drops. Then she turned on her heels and walked to the car. Arjun sight saw her leave. He knew from the start just how this would end, they lives began slitting at the seams.
Arjun turned around. This deep silence, the world has distributed it to everyone. He did not intend to let go of the priceless moments but to enfold with them. Tears came to his eyelashes but he brushed it away from his skin, sadness is a part of everyone's life.
(3 years later)
Arohi slid opened the wooden cupboard in her bedroom; she stood on her tip-toes as she pulled down a cardboard box filled with a pile of old rummage and books. She bent down and began poke around through the pile of books. One by one she began picking each book up deciding weather to keep it or not. She came across an unfamiliar cavernous black book, she opened the clip but before she could read it her phone began to ring. "Hello" she squealed in excitement since it was her family." Hello putter, how are you?" Dj said from the other end. "I am fine Dj, how is everyone?" she asked as she got up from the floor. "Everyone is fine here, when is your flight?" Arohi walked into the kitchen, "its tomorrow I'll should be landing in Delhi at 8:00 in the evening." She said as she turned the gas down of the oven. Minutes later the door bell rang,"Dj, i'll call you back later there is someone on the door." Arohi positioned her mobile on the worktop and unlocked the door; she took the parcel of the postman signing for it at the door.
What had not changed in these 3 years? She had grown to a twenty-three year old young woman, independent and optimistic. Trailing her eyes down her fingers she saw a band commitment, a diamond ring. Arohi observed the iridescent looking shape of the diamond; peeking into it she saw the day Aman proposed to her, yes she was engaged.
She sighed and returned back to sorting out the pile of old books. She reached out and tossed open the cover of the black book. She began flicking trough the pages, realising it was more than just a book. The written Words signified less meaning down on paper. It took the human voice of Arohi to infuse them with deeper sense. Thus time goes, life in me decreases and all... I tried to paint you a picture but the colours where all wrong; you were shaded by patience... I've inhaled you. With what ever you have to done I've been looted... I'm sorry that I've failed time and again...
Arohi slumped back on to the sofa, for years he had concealed his feelings. Her inner remains were cursing themselves for not finding the book before. The illusion she created years ago seamed to burn carelessly. Her whole body winced with regret, it was a Bittersweet sensation. She shut her eyes trying to make sense of everything like her mind was lost in a web. When the seasons flourished its scarf, the roads rippled to respond. The roads of life are scattered with the wreckage of run-down, half-finished love. Nobody has ever known me in this world, like you have, then why did you hide this? Embracing the diary with all she had, for all sad words of tongue and pen which leaked into the paper, they were the saddest.
Knocking her back into her senses, her eyes flashed open as her ears picked up the sound of the door bell. Arohi disguised the dairy under sofa and made her way the door. She opened the door, to find a man dressed in a plain black slim suit. "Surprise!" Aman said with a joyful tone as he stood on the door way. She was indeed surprised by his presence."Hi." Aman wrapped his arms around her supple body,"i've missed you so much." He whispered as he held her in his arms. "Me to." Arohi smiled lively, trying to forget what she had just read as if her mind just crossed some kind of invisible line. "How come you're back early, I mean you were meant to meet me in Delhi." She questioned as he let go of her grasp. "Well, the conference finished early than I expected, so I thought since its finished early why we don't go Delhi together. So here I am." Arohi existence was in the room but mentally her attention was somewhere else. She was, cold, isolated and confused was the last place she wanted to be. "Are you all right." Aman raised in a concerned manner."Yeah...Yep am fine. "She uttered as she tried to keep herself composed. He took hold of her hand tenderly,"i can't believe were going to get married in a couple of week's time...
