Part 8:

Prachi's head was feeling a lot better, but now it was her heart that was aching. She remembered being referred to as Miss. Shah and not Mrs. Mishra. That had all but confirmed the truth, she had no role in Milind's life. She was silently lost in her own depressing thoughts, when she head a knock on the door. She glanced up slowly to see who it was, because the door was wide open.

To her amazement, it was Milind, dressed exactly the same, with the exact same hair, and the exact same scruffy image. Yet, Prachi knew, that something was extremely different. Instead of having an stoic expresseion on his face, Milind was smiling. For the most part, Milind always seemed like he had other things on his mind, or seemed full of anger when he was around Prachi. But today, he was smiling in full force.
She couldn't help but stare at him.

Wasting no time, Milind walked up Prachi's bed and apologized, "Sorry I took so long...I told you I would be back in a minute or so, but it took me almost half an hour."

"It's fine," Prachi silently responded, trying to make sure that Milind didn't realize that she had been crying.

"How are you feeling?" he inquired.

"I'm fine" she stated.

"Well I think you will be more than fine after you see what I brought for you," Milind said teasingly, as he slyly moved his hands from behind himself and revealed a large brown paper bag.

Prachi just stared.

"Well Prachi, I know that you wouldn't like the horrible food they serve at these hospitals, so I went to a nearby restaurant and bought some dinner for us to eat. I got some of your favourite things, like spring rolls, dahl, roti, and Chow mein," explained Milind, as he pulled a nearby tray to Prachi's bed. Wasting no time, he pulled out the contents of the bag, and laid them out on the tray. He then went up to Prachi, and gently made her sit upright on her bed, so that she could easily reach the food tray. He then sat at the foot of Prachi's bed, so that they both sat across from eachother, and pulled out two forks.

He let out a larger smile, "Let's eat. I'm starving."

Prachi let out a small smile, and nodded, as she took her fork from Milind's hand. She was so confused, but she tried not to show it. On one hand, she thought Milind hated her, and on the other hand, it seemed like he liked her. What was the truth?

Milind silently watched Prachi eat the delicious food. He couldn't help but smile, as they both reached down to grab some Chow Mein. Their hands almost touched, but then Prachi pulled hers away.

"I will take care of Prachi," Milind thought to himself, "whether she likes it or not, she is my wife, and I have some responsibilities. I will take care of her for as long as I can." With that silent thought, Milind knew what he had to do. He had to make sure his wife was healthy, safe, and happy. Never again, would he treat her like he had.

Part 9:

Prachi had been in the hospital for two days. The one visitor rule was still in effect, and Prachi had been surprised that Milind had stayed for both days. She had the chance to speak to her mother and the rest of the family on the phone, and Premlatha had seemed pleased that Prachi was happy and feeling better. However, Prachi had not had the chance to speak to Mishra Ji, as her mom had told her that he had gone on a trip to Hardiwar, and would be back in a couple days.

Even though Prachi's family had not been able to visit, she did not feel sad or homesick. In fact, these last two days had been Prachi's fondest. Milind did not leave Prachi's side for a moment, unless of course he was busy sneaking in restaurant food to her room. It seemed like their differences were fading fast. With no one else in their lives for two days, they actually had time to spend with each other. Both spent hours laughing with each other as they spoke of childhood memories, or as Milind hilariously made fun of the weird nurse who came in at noon to give Prachi her medicines.

For these past two days, neither Milind or Prachi spoke about the issues that had been plaguing their marriage. Prachi did not mention Neev or Ayesha, and nor did Milind. Milind had wanted Prachi to feel better, so he did not want to stress her out, and besides, he realized that when Prachi was happy, he was happy too. Prachi did not mention anything about her half-sister and her brother-in-law because she did not want to anger Milind, and she did not want to get further entangled in a web of misunderstandings. Besides, she still could not tell Milind about why she went to the college party, because then she would be compromising Sukriti's secret, and she could not do that.

Instead of focusing on the negatives of their relationship, both Prachi and Milind focused on building new memories. These last two days had been full of somewhat romantic events. Both had not confessed their true feelings, but instead had built a friendship with each other.

Prachi smiled to herself as she recalled Milind holding her waist as he lifted her out of her bed, so that she could go on a short walk in the hospital to feel less claustrophobic. She had held onto his arm the entire time, for support, since she was still weak.

Milind remembered how at night, when he was sleeping on the sofa near Prachi's hospital bed, she had softly sat upright, and picked up a nearby blanket and put it on Milind.

Prachi recalled how in the morning she woke up with her head facing Milind and was surprised to see his eyes staring right back at her; the two had a short eye-locking session.

Milind silently let out a chuckle remembering how Prachi refused to eat her lunch, unless Milind ate first.

Both Prachi and Milind realized that these last two days had been memorable, and the best two days of their lives. However, neither Prachi nor Milind was going to admit it to each other. Milind still thought that Prachi loved Neev. Prachi still thought that Milind loved Ayesha.

***

It was the afternoon of their second day in the hospital. Milind was typing away on his laptop while sitting on a sofa next to Prachi's bed, who was busy watching an Ekta Kapoor serial on the television.

"Oh come on Prachi...why are you watching this rubbish?" whined Milind.

"Uf Milind...it's not that bad...besides the story has gotten interesting, the saas is trying to sabatoge her daughter-in-law's relationship with her own son! Can you believe that?" Prachi exclaimed, while paying full attention to the television.

"OH GOD PRACHI! Ekta's serials are all the same DAMN thing!" he whined again, as he continued typing.

"Well Milind, what else am I supposed to do? You are too busy with your work, and I am getting bored. If you don't want to give me company, at least Ekta is!" she laughed.

Milind instantly looked up at Prachi, and closed his laptop.

"Arreh Milind? Yeh kya kiya? Weren't you working on something important?" asked Prachi.

"It can wait," smiled Milind, "besides, it's not everyday that I get to spend with my beautiful wife."

Milind was shocked. Prachi was shocked. He had just called Prachi his wife in front of her! Before any of them could say anything, Dr. Anjum Sharma knocked on the open door.

Milind slowly turned his gaze from Prachi towards the Doctor, as Prachi said, "Arey Doctor Sharma! Please come in!"

Dr. Anjum went up to Prachi and put her hand on her head to see if she had a fever. "Excellent Prachi! You don't have a fever, and even better news, you can leave the hospital tonight!" she said with excitement.

"Tonight doctor? Are you sure she is ready?" asked Milind.

"Yes, Mr. Mishra, I think she is ready. Yesterday, I would have said that Prachi needs to be here for at least a week, but her condition had rapidly improved during these last two days. Of course she is still not 100%, but I am sure that if you, Mr. Mishra, take care of her for the next couple weeks, as you have taken care of her for these past two days, then she will be 100% in no time!" explained Dr. Anjum.

"Of course doctor. You don't have to worry about that," assured Milind.

Dr. Anjum once again turned to Prachi, "You are lucky Mrs. Mishra, to have such a caring husband."

Prachi was shocked and surprised. The doctor had also referred to her as Milind's wife, and Milind had not objected. Prachi was so excited, although she did not want to show it. She did not want to build dreams of a life with Milind, only to have them shatter. Whenever Prachi had been happy in the past, something had always gone wrong. Prachi had learned to live in the moment, and not think about the future.

Dr. Anjum shook Prachi's hand and she shook Milind's hand, and then left the room to attend to other patients.

Milind noticed that Prachi was staring off into the distance, lost in her own thoughts. She looked so beautiful and serene. He wanted to stare at her forever.

He stared at her, while she stared off in the distance. After a minute or two, Prachi realized what she had been doing and came back to reality. She looked towards Milind, who was still staring at her.

She snapped her fingers in front of Milind's eyes, which were in reaching distance of her bed. "Milind! Let's go home!" she softly giggled.

As soon as she snapped her fingers, Milind also came back to reality. He smiled, "Why are you so eager to go home Prachi? Happy to get away from this hospital or are you sick of spending time with me?" he asked smugly, hoping for some sort of hint that she liked him.

"Uf Milind....both reasons!" she laughed, "No I am not sick of you, but I am sick of this hospital. I can't wait to go home!"

Relieved, Milind explained to her that she couldn't go home in her hospital clothes! Prachi looked down at the light blue hospital garment which she was wearing, "Where is my purple saree?" she asked.

"PRACHI! You can't wear that thing! It's been through hell...it looked so bad after your accident that I threw it out!" Milind explained.

"MILIND!" Prachi said with playful annoyance in her voice, "What am I supposed to wear then? I can't go home like this...this outfit doesn't even close properly from the back! Imagine what our family would think!"

Milind laughed, and slyly said, "Well then I think you just have to wear my clothes. Here let me give you my shirt..." Milind slowly started unbuttoning his shirt.

"STOP MILIND! What are you doing? What if someone walks in? What would they thing? My husband undressing in front of me in the middle of a hospital! No thanks. I will just wear this stupid hospital outfit home," explained Prachi.

As Prachi got up from her bed, and stood up, Milind quickly grabbed her arm, and turned her, so that she was facing his direction. He could feel her surprised breathing, she had not expected him to do this.

"Don't worry Prachi, I am not going to do anything," he softly stated, as he let go of her arm, much to Prachi's secret dismay.

"I bought you something" Milind explained, as he moved away from Prachi, towards his laptop. He pulled out a yellow bag from behind the sofa and handed it to Prachi.

Prachi was surprised to see the bag, and curiously opened it up to reveal a beautiful saree. The saree was multi-colored and unlike anything Prachi owned. She could tell is was very expensive.

"I know you don't normally wear things like this, but I saw it when I went to get us lunch, and I thought it would look amazing on you. I understand if you don't want to wear it..." he explained.

"No! Milind it is beautiful. Thank you. Of course I will wear it." she happily said. She picked up the saree and went to the bathroom to put it on.

She had been in the bathroom for a few minutes, and Milind was wondering why it was taking so long. He walked up to the bathroom door and knocked, "Are you okay Prachi?"

Just as he finished his question, the door opened to reveal a stunning woman. Prachi looked like a Goddess. Milind had never seen a woman looking as beautiful as Prachi looked right this moment.

"How does it look?" she shyly asked.

"Amazing" Milind said in awe.

Prachi let out a huge smile, "Thanks. Now let's go home."

Milind silently nodded, and grabbed Prachi's hand because she was still weak and needed support. They both walked out of the hospital hand-in-hand.
