Smriti Irani is the only actress who knows how to handle Ekta Kapoor. Even though she is no longer interested in playing Tulsi and has stopped giving Kyunki..., which happens to be Ekta's flagship show, much of her time, Smriti still has the soap queen praising her in open. Recently Ekta went out of her way and told a tabloid that everything was fine between her and Smriti and in not so many words said that Smriti will always be welcomed back into Kyunki... Now this is shocking because Ekta is not known to be kind or polite towards actors who quit her show or want to move on. Look at the way she treats Rajeev Khandelwal and everyone knows how badly she treated Amar Upadhyay after he quit Kyunki... If Smriti ever was to give classes on how to remain in Ekta's good books or at least have the soap queen praising you in public, she will have a long line outside her door.

Another one who can fill in for Smriti when the actress is busy is Parineeta Sahu. Ekta very sweetly accommodated her in Kasauti... after she opted out of Kasturi.

Not without my boys

It's a well-known fact that Ektaa Kapoor's favourite actors at Balaji Telefilms include Ejaz Khan and Iqbal Khan. Coincidentally, both are out of Balaji at the moment.

And though Iqbal has no immediate plans of returning, Ejaz will return after he finishes shooting for Pritish Nandy Communications' film 'Meerabai, Not Out' (opposite Mandira Bedi).

Ektaa says, "Ejaz was supposed to go to Dubai for our new show there. But because of his film commitment he couldn't. But he's most certainly doing our next show." She adds, "We're working on three shows right now. Hopefully, Ejaz will be in 'Kasturi'. We'll decide after his film is completed."

In the meanwhile, Ektaa's other favourite actor Hiten Tejwani is going great guns with Balaji. Not only is he an integral part of 'Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' (Star
Plus), Ektaa has roped him in for two new Balaji serials.

Ektaa says, "Hiten is already doing 'Kyunkii'. He'll be seen as Anupam in 'Karam Apna Apna' (Star Plus) and as Anurag in 'Kasauti Zindagi Kay' (Star Plus). Yash Tonk is the other hero in 'Karam…'."

As for Iqbal, she says, "Yes, we do miss him at Balaji. But the show must go on."

SECOND INNINGS!

The actress is all set for round two with an offer from Balaji for forthcoming serial Kasturi>

SANDIPAN DALAL

The tittle-tattle doing the rounds is that Amrita Singh is gearing up for round two on television. The actress, who made a comeback with Kavyanjali, is in talks with thinking heads at Balaji Telefilms for the much awaited daily soap, Kasturi. Says a reliable source from Balaji, "Her portrayal of Nitya Nanda made her extremely popular. Ekta is keen on signing her for an elderly character in the soap. There're no doubts about the fact that Amrita is a wonderful actress."
Singh has already had a couple of meetings with head honcho Ekta Kapoor. However, the actress hasn't yet given out her dates. If sources are to be believed, she is taking time to arrive at a decision. When quizzed about it Singh says, "I'm not yet ready for a television soap again. I have to look after my kids." She didn't rule out the possibility of a return though. "I did meet Ekta last night. Kavyanjali helped me to reinstate my faith that I can still do good work. I owe it to Ekta big time," she says.
Apparently, marathon shooting schedules of a daily soap are preventing the actress from taking up the show. An assistant director from Balaji informs, "Amrita wants to spend more time with her kids. A daily soap comes with a hectic schedule. Besides, binge shooting for banking episodes is very common. She is yet to take a call."
With Kaun Banega Crorepati going off air in the coming months, Star authorities have zeroed down on Kasturi for the 9.30 pm time slot. A love story spanning across generations, the plot revolves around a small town lassie living in the outskirts of Kolkata.

The lassie won't be Amrita. But then, that's life. Welcome to round two.

Ekta says "I also have a new show kasturi for star that is being delayed for the last 8 months. The entire script has been reworked and many original people from the cast including rajat bedi, ratti agnihotri, pallavi kulkarni have walked out of the serial. The serial is scheduled to air from may this year but is yet to be supervised,as sammer nair is leaving the channel and the new head has yet to come and deal with the show. The only people of the original cast to remain in the serial are ritu deepak, sanjit bedi and shruti seth who is playing a cameo. After pallavis exit im still fishing for a female lead and as for the male lead, the show was offered to eijaz khan but he has backed out as he is taking a break from television and has his mind set seriously for bollywood this year. Therefore i am still looking for leads to star in this serial. My loyalist hiten will also play a cameo along with Shruti."

Yikes whats gotten into him....whatever......take ur soo called break. I was really looking forward to seeing him on tv again. And according to this he wont be on till a year.......Tsk.

Guess there isnt any good looking left in the balaji gang anymore. First Rajeev, than IQ and than Eijaz.

NO EKTA,PLEASE!

Gone are the days when ekta kapoor ruled television. Now there alot of producers with more than one television show on a variety of channels.Producers like Sunjoy wadhwa, kinnari mehta, anuradha prasad and deeya singh have proved their mantle as good producers, opening way for many other producers to pitch their soaps on popular channels like sony, zee and star. For a year now ektas soaps seem to be loosing their lustre and are seeing a major drop in trps while shows like saath phere, banno mein teri dulhan, kumkum, bhabhi, betiyaan are superceding ektas soaps in the trps race.

The lastest controversy to hit ekta is that channels have refused to take her shows due to them being regressive and repetitive.Ekta who was planning new shows for sahara and sab have been asked to stop working on her new concepts or approach other channels instead.Reacting to this news ektas associative creative director tanushree says"yes its true we have been asked not to work on the shows now but thats entirely because of non availabity of slots. The quality of concepts was not at all a reason for them being shelved. However programming head sab, priya mishra has a different story to tell,"its true we have refused ektas new concept for sab because it was one of those saas bahu types and sab has always been unique.we dont wish to give them regressive serials that affect the channels reputation.however if ekta has something different to offer we will definitely consider it."

Even zee which is airing balajis famous serial kasamh se has refused to take in more of balaji shows. To this ashwini yardi, zee programming head says"we have lined up loads of other shows by different producers and there ois absoluetly no time for a new balaji show.all our slots our full. Therefore for another year there is no question of taking any new balaji soap.Whats the use of preparing a show that will face problems of getting slotted later on."

Ekta on the hand is really hesitant to place any of her show on star one merely beacuse they dont work well and its a huge loss for her to pitch her high budget shows and get 1 or less trps as outcome. She is also against airing her shows on sony until sandiip sickand gets replaced as sonys creative director.

In addition to all this even her channel star plus which is famous of rejecting all producers for her sake is facing problems. All of ektas trusted heads are bidding adieu to the channel including sameer nair, peter mukherjee and shailjaa kejriwal, leaving ekta in a confused situation.Sources indicate even her show kasturi has still not been approved and has been on wait for more than 7 months.Balajis head nivedita basu on her part comments."yes thats true kasturi is on a hold right now but it will air for sure in two months time.Infact we have selected divya seth to play a strict disciplinarian and the mother to the male protoganist in the show.Ratti ji was considered for the role but she backed out due to date problems. .Morever we have a new show for ary too and an untitled venture for star plus.We dont wish to start new shows on other channels as we are really busy with our present shows".Sources also indicate that rajeev khandelwal.ektas once blue eyed boy is being apprached to play the lead.

Seems like queen of soaps ekta kapoor has lost the magic her shows contained once.It is evident from her recent shows which have been unable to garner good trps and many in the last two years including kkavyanjali,k street pali hill, kaisa yeh pyar hai, kandy floss have shut shop due to poor audience respnse. In reality none of ektas characters have been able to become as famous and triumphant as tulsi, parvati, prerna and kashish.

Kasturi ke intezzar mein!

Coming May will see a heat of a different kind ! As KBC wraps up to be replaced by Ekta's Kasturi, we think the later will set a new kind of competition. For a long time now, the show like the Janus is being torn between 'keep it under wraps and stimulate constant hype.'

Initially, the show promised a new starcast. However, from the number of actors who've auditioned for the same, tell a different story altogether. Be it either Eijaz Khan, Sanjit Bedi from the older generation (that's what they are in Balaji terms), or the mid wingers Shabbir Ahluwalia or Manish Raisinghani, or the young entrants Mouni Roy and Pulkit Samrat.

There have been quite a few changes in the main male lead, earlier it was Eijaz Khan, who specialises in cameos and short stints with Balaji whilst juggling his movie career. He was then taken over by Manish Raisinghani, who had to pull himself off the show as he had no dates to spare for Kasturi. Now the buzz goes that the lead has been handed over to the hapless Sanjit Bedi, who was bad in Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka and not so good in Viraasat.

And who will be the lead protagonist Kasturi in the show? Keep watching this space for more.

Stars on Numerology

After twisting the names of TV serials to help their luck with TRPs, it's now TV actors who have adopted the trend of numerically altering their names to bring positivity to their careers. We asked some name-enhanced stars from the small screen industry how much fortune their 'spell check' has brought them.

Nikkhil Arya from Nikhil Sakhrani
Nikkhil is one actor who went the whole hog when it came to changing his name and the actor is pretty satisfied with the results it has brought him:

"Not many people know but my real name is Nikhil Sakhrani. My real surname is not Arya. Initially when I was trying to get a foothold in the industry I was advised to take up a filmy name. My mother was especially adamant that my name be such that it brings me success. She believes in lot in these things and when we consulted a numerologist he suggested the surname Arya.

I'd say changing my name has helped me though I only went in for it because of my mom. Since then things have moved really nicely but I'd also like to attribute my success to my parents' blessings, my hard work and ultimately my destiny- if I was not destined for such success then it would not have come through." Says Nikkhil.

'l have been a fool'

There doesn't seem to be anything more anticlimactic than this. After all the hype created about actor Nikkhil Arya's character in 'Kasturi' (Star Plus), apparently Nikkhil has hardly shot with them.

When quizzed about the same, a visibly miffed Nikkhil candidly admits, "In the last two months, I have shot for a maximum of five days. I do not have any other show on hand as I had refused several big projects for 'Kasturi'."

Nikkhil adds ruefully, "I guess, I have been a fool. After I started shooting, I realised that what was being picturised was completely different from what had been narrated. I don't even know where my track is headed to. And that's stopping me from seeking work outside. It is getting on my nerves to sit at home".

Apparently, Nikkhil has been promised a discussion on this issue by the producer. He says, "I hoping for the best. It was a role I was looking forward to and it will be nice if things move forward positively." Nikkhil is currently keeping himself busy in practising yoga and classical music.

Nivedita Basu, deputy creative head, Balaji Telefilms, says, "We have yet to branch out his track and develop it into a negative lead. We intend to do this soon this. After that, one will see more of Nikkhil."
