Hi Mandy, once again I see that you are in an angry mood. I believe your lament has some merits but it also misses the big picture.

I agree that in this serial, Akbar on occasions has been shown as helpless or foolish or too dependent on Jodha or his achievements given to others. That is true but on the whole this serial has been reasonably good towards Akbar, he has been shown to be brave, a good husband, a loving son, always keeps a promise, caring monarch, has a developed sense of justice etc. I could point out more but I don't remember at the moment.

To see how bad things can get for Akbar, watch that other serial on SONY for a few minutes. And believe me, over the past few months there has been a systematic campaign to smear Akbar's legacy.

So what is the big picture? It is that Jodha is a kind of bullet proof vest for Akbar. As long as Jodha's name is linked with Akbar he gets a kind of security, Otherwise bigots would rip his legacy apart and invent imaginary scenarios to show how bad Akbar was. Don't believe me, again watch that other serial on SONY and you will understand. But even there Jodha is shown as noble woman.

That is the enigma that religious bigots face, Jodha is one of them, of the same religion and shares the same values. The picture of Jodha as a good, honorable and self sacrificing woman is so strongly imprinted in the mind of the people that it almost impossible to attack her. And since Jodha is so linked with Akbar, it becomes difficult to attack him also.

And then there is the romantic aura associated with the story that makes it even harder to attack Akbar. It is easy to selectively use historical records , even fabricate them to show Akbar as cruel but how do you fight against an idea, how do you fight against the imagery of romance that the movie and this serial created.

That is why the amount of good this serial has done for Akbar vastly exceeds the harm.

maybe this serial has not shown akbar's aan baan shaan in that way, maybe it has sometimes shown him as foolish, but believe me this is one serial which has make common people love this king called akbar, not only as a king, but also as a human being. Just have a look at the historical on sony, there akbar is shown grand fearless, but very less than a bloodthristy monster, and although he is grand there, he is maligned , he is hated. Although akbar in ja is not that grand, he is loved he is respected he is admired. I think the way Akbar's klegacy is being maligned these days, akbar needs love and respect more than grandieur. People already know about his achievements, theres not any history book which does not praise him and his achievements, but still there were bitterness about him and whole mughal clan inb common people, ja has really really helped to lessen this bitterness to huge extent, now when people think about akbar, they respect him, and love him. Its not something you should ignore as an well wisher of akbar's image in the country. And about purdah, not many tv historical can show it as then they have to show the heroine with cloth on her face 24 hrs. Razia sultan, ja, maharana pratap, none of these historicals show purdah in that bstrict way. It is much easier to show purdah in a movie as it has limited screen time, but a serial has a long run, you have to cut them some slack

Hi Mandy

Pls don't presume that ppl believe in this NR and think Akbar's begums have won wars for him.We have many sources to read the history, this show was just for entertainment but unfortunately it has deviated the path and started generating negative effects.Few times I was depressed with the tracks and thought to stop watching..but the only reason I haven't missed any epi is the spellbinding performance of Pari and Rajat.

I have never had any glimpse of the show on Sony but I know the way they are portraying Akbar. In fact I knew nothing abt Akbar before watching the show..the only thing I knew was he is Akbar, the great..not even his full name. But this show is the only reason I got to know a lot of things abt the Emperor and my respect for him has increased manifolds.I repeat, the show JA has initiated the interest but I could never believe in the farthest of imagination that Akbar was captured and tortured by Abul Mali or he was time and again saved by begums.

As our other friends said,he was shown to possess the qualities of love, care, responsible, fearlessness, strict man and also a person of words. This side of the character can't be ignored right?

Finally I would say, these kind of shows come and go,but can never change the History and lessen the respect towards the great Kings of India. Pls don't worry so much.

donjas , i can understand the undertone of what you are trying to say and i must say you have very smartly put it all in words😉..the only problem here is that jodha could have been shown all kind hearted..strong.. brave and all but not at the cost of bringing akbar down and showing him helpless..only if that one point was watched for but then as you said the majority wins and the majority rules!

only if he was not shown so mazloom as he was not in reality and this is the only one mughal ruler that is loved and respected by many even today! i had been his fan since i have read about him in history books and you are right one such serial cannot shake the legacy he carries and he will be remembered as a brave..far sighted..and intelligent ruler! at least i hope so!

i will come out of it dear and thanks for the concern! i do not think akbar's begums ever came out in the open to fight like shown in the serial, at least i have not come across any such readings! his begums had power within the harem and he was the one giving the powers as per their capabilities!..noor was the one that fought for salim who was almost dying at that time and was captive of his own friend..and ekta took that incident from indu's taj trilogy, i myself have read it!
