My take on current MunRik track and I really want Munni to be addressed as Manjuri.

Munni stood in the kitchen, absentmindedly making tea and a quick snack. She hadn't even changed out of her sari yet, and it was already 9 p.m.

It had been a long day.

Work had drained her — multiple site visits, constant decisions — but what exhausted her more was running into Mitali.

Tired. Frustrated. Confused.

A few weeks into her marriage with Ritik, and things were far from what she had imagined. Did she even know what she had expected?

When Tulsi Maa had asked for her hand, she had said yes in less than a day.

Because she still loved him.

That had never changed.

And somewhere along the way, their friendship had returned — easy, familiar, comforting. It had felt like the missing piece of her life had quietly fallen back into place.

Being part of the Virani family — the same people who had once given her nothing but love — had only made that decision easier.

But now —

Mitali's video. Ritik's constant absence. Timsy always being handed to her.

And beneath all of it —

Her own insecurity.

The daughter-in-law of a house she had once worked in.

The tea boiled over, spilling onto the gas with a sharp hiss.

Munni snapped out of her thoughts and turned off the stove.

Just then she heard Ritik come in, Timsy beside him, her small voice filling the hallway as she chattered about her day.

Timsy ran straight into the kitchen and wrapped her arms around Munni.

"Hi Jury Maa! Aap kya kar rahe ho?"

Munni managed a small smile. "Kuch nahi… bas chai bana rahi hoon."

"Okay! Aap thodi der baad mere saath kheloge na?" she asked, already certain.

"Haan."

Timsy beamed and ran back out. Ritik walked in, standing by the large dining table, watching quietly. Timsy had taken to Munni so easily — perhaps even more than she had to him. And that made him happy. Genuinely, simply happy. As if everything had settled exactly where it should.

"Timsy, bohot late ho gaya hai. Jao, room mein jaake change karo. Phir Jury Maa aake tumhe story sunayengi," he said, ruffling her hair.

Timsy nodded and ran upstairs.

Munni looked at Ritik. Said nothing.

"Pata hai kitna mushkil tha usse Mitali ke ghar se lana," Ritik said, walking toward her. "Pata nahi kya chal raha hai uske dimaag mein. Jab tak yahan thi, usse Timsy ki koi parwaah nahi thi… aur ab achanak uske saath time spend karna chahti hai."

Munni moved around the counter and placed her cup on the dining table.

"Please usse dobara mat bhejna Mitali ke paas," Ritik added.

"Main Mitali ko kaise rok sakti hoon, Ritik? Woh uski maa hai."

"Jaanta hoon… par jitna khayal tum rakhti ho na, Munni, utna koi nahi rakh sakta. Main bhi nahi."

Something in her tightened.

"Mitali ko usmein koi interest nahi hai… yeh baat tum jaanti ho."

It hit wrong. Not what he meant — but how it sounded. Like she had done something that needed justifying. He hadn't even asked how her day had been. Hadn't asked about Mitali, about the scene at the school gate, about any of it.

"Toh phir aap Timsy ko school se le aaiyega," Munni said, the irritation slipping through.

Ritik frowned. "Kya hua, Munni? Sab theek hai na?"

"Haan… bas thak gayi hoon. Aaj 2–3 sites pe jana pada. Aur wahan Mitali mil gayi… apni mom ke saath. Timsy apni nani ko dekh ke bohot khush thi… toh maine jaane diya."

"Accha, koi baat nahi. Tum relax karo. Mitali ko main handle kar loonga. Tum chai piyo," he said, pulling out her chair.

She sat. Because she was too tired to stand.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Upstairs, Timsy's voice rang out. She couldn't find her night suit — the one with the little elephants — and she wanted it immediately and specifically.

Ritik went up.

A few minutes later his voice carried down — he couldn't find it either.

Munni told him where it was. Then told him again.

He still couldn't find it.

She got up, went upstairs, found it exactly where she had said, and handed it to Timsy without a word. Timsy beamed. Ritik looked sheepish. Munni came back downstairs.

Her tea had gone cold.

She stood at the sink, picked up the cup, and quietly poured it away. She wasn't just tired anymore. She was drained in a way that had nothing to do with the site visits or the files or the long drive back. She was drained of her experience, her insecurities, Mitali, and Ritik.

As she turned to leave the kitchen, Ritik walked back in.

"Timsy ko tumhare haath ka Bournvita milk chahiye… bana dogi?"

She looked at him. Said nothing. Made the milk and handed him the glass.

From upstairs — "Jury Maaa! Story!"

Ritik extended the glass toward her. "Tum hi le jao. Woh tumhe bula rahi hai."

That was it.

"Kyun aap kyun nahi jaa sakte?" her voice sharpened.

"Main jaa sakta hoon… par woh tumhe bula rahi hai. Aur kyunki—"

The glass slipped as she stepped back.

It hit the marble floor and shattered, milk spreading slowly in every direction. The sound of it was very loud in the quiet house.

But louder still —

"KYUNKI MAIN USKI AAYA HOON?"

Not a scream. Something rawer than that. The sound of a woman who had been holding something all day and simply couldn't anymore.

"Isliye shaadi ki aapne mujhse?"

Ritik froze.

"Munni… yeh kya keh rahi ho? Kya hua aaj tumhe? Kisi ne kuch kaha kya?" He stepped toward her.

She stepped back.

"Aapko Timsy ke liye ek permanent nanny chahiye thi, hai na?" Her voice trembled but didn't break. "Toh aapko laga mujhse better kaun hoga? Main iss ghar ko jaanti hoon, iss parivaar ko jaanti hoon… Timsy ko sambhal lungi. Isliye shaadi ki na aapne mujhse?"

Tears rolled down her cheeks.

"Munni, please — tum aisa soch bhi kaise sakti ho?" Ritik said, stunned.

She didn't respond.

She walked to the table, picked up her phone — face down since morning, because she hadn't been able to look at it — and pressed play. Placed it in front of him.

Ritik's own voice filled the kitchen.

She watched him watch it. Watched his face as he heard himself — calm, practical, reasonable — explaining to Mitali why Munni made sense. The house. The family. Timsy. All of it already known. A problem, quietly solved.

His face fell.

"Munni yeh—"

"Kya yeh nahi kaha aapne?"

"Haan… lekin tum jo samajh rahi ho mera woh matlab nahi tha. Tum jaanti ho Mitali kaisi hai—"

"Jaanti hoon," she cut in quietly. "Isliye ab tak chup thi."

A pause.

"Par pichle kuch dino se aapka behavior… bas issi baat ko prove kar raha hai, Ritik."

"Kya aapne sach mein mujhe Timsy ki nanny banane ke liye shaadi ki? Ek educated nanny… kyunki ab main Collector hoon… toh aapke status se match karti hoon?"

Ritik had no answer.

His mind moved slowly through the past few weeks — small moments he hadn't questioned at the time.

Tum dekh logi na… Tumhare haath ka doodh peeti hai… Tum hi sulha do usse…

Each one had felt natural then. Easy. Like trust.

Now, standing in the spilled milk, hearing them back — they felt different.

"Shayad… maine galat tareeke se kiya," he said quietly.

"Munni, please meri baat—"

She looked straight into his eyes.

"Manjuri."

"Manjuri Sinha."

A name she had built entirely for herself. A name that had nothing to do with this house, this kitchen, or any role she had ever been asked to fill inside it.

Ritik went silent.

She walked past him.

"Manjuri Virani," Ritik said softly, reminding her that she was his wife.

She turned around and looked at him.

Ritik stood there, the realization quietly breaking across his face — that he had hurt her, without ever meaning to without even knowing.
