Abhay and cool pre...very well said. ..but I have a problem. .and that has got nothing to do with politics or bigotry. ..I hate the way Jallu has been shown weak here. ..and a stupid Jaan nisar hss held him captive. ...forget Jallu. .
Even masn singh has not been spsred..and Jodha too danced. ..I wish they had kept jallu's dignity intact. ..He should have been showed to save himself. ..Its ok if Jodha saves him once in a while but this helpless jalal is too much to digest. .

Agreed that the show focusses on the human side of Akbar, but why show him as an incapable dimwit?
The show had buttered and glossed over Chittor.

But showing him as a truant who massacred in Chittor and later lived and worked for the people would have been better than this majnu avtar.

Ela I understand your complaints completely. I hate how they have depticted Akbar. I have also complained extensively about Jodhas depiction. This last leg showing Akbar as a captive of some 4-5 soldiers and his reliance on Jodha to rescue him is too much to bear really. My only point is why always drag religion and politics into things when there is no valid reason to

Sandhya I could not agree with you more. I would much rather they have shown his ruthless side in chittor instead of trying to show him as a dudh ka dhula repenting emporer which he was not. I would have been delighted if they would have then given us an honest depiction of his religious transformation. But that too could have been a hot button issue if not handled carefully. Ekta took the easy way out and gave us her version of both Akbar and MuZ. Both of them have taking turns in annoying me ( jodha and Akbar). But to blame all this on election of a political party and calling viewers of MP bigots is a bit too much for me

Coolpre ..my problem is not political and I agree with Abhay that government has better things to do then to bother about a show written by Manish Paliwal...Remember the scene where jallu asks Jaan nisar to hear a joke from Birbal and Jaan nisar says he is busy. .that was so so insulting. ...my blood boiled. .. that britisher still has guts to act fresh with jodha after hearing she is jalal's wife. ...It was sick. .frankly pathetic writing and no sense of history. .

Hi Mandy, once again I see that you are in an angry mood. I believe your lament has some merits but it also misses the big picture.

I agree that in this serial, Akbar on occasions has been shown as helpless or foolish or too dependent on Jodha or his achievements given to others. That is true but on the whole this serial has been reasonably good towards Akbar, he has been shown to be brave, a good husband, a loving son, always keeps a promise, caring monarch, has a developed sense of justice etc. I could point out more but I don't remember at the moment.

To see how bad things can get for Akbar, watch that other serial on SONY for a few minutes. And believe me, over the past few months there has been a systematic campaign to smear Akbar's legacy.

So what is the big picture? It is that Jodha is a kind of bullet proof vest for Akbar. As long as Jodha's name is linked with Akbar he gets a kind of security, Otherwise bigots would rip his legacy apart and invent imaginary scenarios to show how bad Akbar was. Don't believe me, again watch that other serial on SONY and you will understand. But even there Jodha is shown as noble woman.

That is the enigma that religious bigots face, Jodha is one of them, of the same religion and shares the same values. The picture of Jodha as a good, honorable and self sacrificing woman is so strongly imprinted in the mind of the people that it almost impossible to attack her. And since Jodha is so linked with Akbar, it becomes difficult to attack him also.

And then there is the romantic aura associated with the story that makes it even harder to attack Akbar. It is easy to selectively use historical records , even fabricate them to show Akbar as cruel but how do you fight against an idea, how do you fight against the imagery of romance that the movie and this serial created.

That is why the amount of good this serial has done for Akbar vastly exceeds the harm.

I agree with the improved image of Akbar amongst the audiences as a caring son/husband but yet fail to understand how showing Akbar what HE ACTUALLY IS.. degrades his image? An astute Emperor he is before a love smitten husband or a mom's son and portraying his true self would only make him dearer to the audience. To glorify M-E-H, the originality of S-E-H need not necessarily be butchered. One can say its easier said than done.. but ask me or many other members on the forum who'd have helped CVs with better tracks that'd have gained more TRPS WITHOUT Jalal's downfall.

As to the other serial on SONY, I haven't watched it, yet Akbar's demeanor is understandable as the equation is pretty simple here.. To elevate the HERO, the villain should be as derided as possible and AKBAR is not the HERO of that serial unlike our case.

Just because some are not happy with the change of political power in India, that does not mean that every silly show on TV is the result of political/ religious pressure.

Donjas, you need to be very careful about what you say about the "other show" you keep "dragging into the conversation. History is always viewed from the perspective of the " vanquished" and the "victor" both. I am a huge fan of Akbar but am fully concious there is a large group of people especially in the Rajputana whose history is awash with bitter memories of Akbar's ruthless conquests especially the battle of Chittor that you so easily trivialize.
A show on Maharana Pratap that shows Akbar as ruthless is not bigotry. It is called an " Alternate point of view" mainly from the view of the vanquished. Yes they have also needlessly hammered Akbar's charachter but so has Ekta has she not. How come its okay to show Akbar as weak and spineless but to show him as ruthless is called bigotry?????

Mandy if Ekta Kapoor made a show on Ashoka or Pratap, she would have made them Majnus as well. Thats the formula of all her shows. that is regardless of the political climate

It is not ruthlessness in that other show that I complain, it the undertone of the show. Even the name of the show, gives danger signals. "Bharat ka Mahaan Putra." Did Bharat exist then? And what is Maharana Pratap fighting for in the show, Is it Mewar? or is it India? because at times I really cannot tell. Akbar is depicted at the ruthless foreigner who must be evicted out of India at all costs. Even Salima Begum is not spared in debasement.

The undertone of a brave son of the soil fighting against a ruthless foreigner is so evident that it makes me sad. And believe me Maharana Pratap is a hero for me, he withstood tremendous deprivations for the ideals that he stood for. But this is not the way to show his greatness.

Yes Sandhya. Akbar had in him the good and bad. He was not unblemished. And showing such a character onscreen is a huge challenge. In the end, the makers failed to even retain the essence of the real characters because they were too pre-occupied with TRPs.
