hi Abhay,
Can u pls confirm if Akbar ever attacked rewa? I had read somewhere that Akbar grew up in rewa and the king of rewa was his best friend and that Akbar never attacked rewa. But in the show, we saw Akbar announcing an attack on rewa (to capture the man who attacked him and Jodha).
Yes Radhika, the King RamaChandra of the said kingdom, was attacked as they are going to show in the serial.
@Bold... I could not find
any historical ground for this, except some Kids Stories, on Internet. Akbar was born in the Fort of Umerkot, in the Palace of Raja Veersal, and that is in Pakistan now. And, the kingdom of this king who is being attacked falls in present day Madhya Pradesh state of India. Hence, Huge difference between the two places.😉
Coming to your question.
The man Akbar is miffed with, who is held for attacking him and Jodha in the jungle(as per show), is >
Ghazi Khan, who has taken refuge with Raja Ramachandra of Rewa (in Akbarnama this place is called Panna).
Brief history of Ghazi Khan.
Raja HemaChandra Vikramaditya, or Hemu, was a minister in the court of
Mubar'riz Khan, who was an incapable ruler. Ultimately, Hemu managed the kingdom on behalf of his master.
We know Hemu was slained in the Second Battle of Panipat, in 1556. Now, the important
Fort of Chunar(won by Sher Shah Suri) was held by a slave of Mubar'riz Khan named
Fat-tu 😉 , who agreed to surrender it to Akbar {<from Akbarnama, Vol.2, Pg-190.} in 1561-62, after Akbar sent Asaf Khan to besiege the fort.
{ Though, Nizam-ud-din says, that Fat-tu wrote a letter HIMSELF, offering to surrender it, and
afterwards Akbar sent Asaf Khan and Mohammed Ghauss, to take over the fort. I am giving both the Versions of this surrender . 😉 }
Now, when the fort was surrendered , it was handled over to Hussain Khan 'Turkman' . And,
Asaf Khan was made the
Governor of Kara(this is near Allahabad.) At this,
Ghazi Khan who had earlier entered Akbar's service, became miffed and
revolted, and went to the kingdom of
Rewa(or, Panna), and took
refuge there. The Raja of Rewa, being a Rajvanshi, could not say NO to someone who asked for help. This invited the wrath of Akbar.!!!!.
{Probably, Ghazi Khan was also involved in some conspiracy against Akbar, by joining hands with others who wanted to dethrone him. }
{Let me tell something about
Asaf Khan. He was initially a writer in the court.😉 And his real name was Khwaja Abu'l Majid. He was given the title of Asaf Khan, due to his good fighting qualities. Asaf means, someone who "gathers/conquers". Hence, he became famous by his title only. 😉 }
Coming to the War with Raja RamaChandra of Rewa.
Around April, 1563, Asaf Khan and other commanders, defeated Raja Ramachandra. Ghazi Khan was brutally slained.
Akbarnama, Vol.2, Pg-282, says, initially Asaf Khan asked for surrender of Ghazi Khan, but when this fell on deaf " ears " , then Raja RamaChandra was attacked. The Raja prepared for war and with him were Rajputs and Afghans(from Asaf Khan). A savage battle was fought.
As per Akbarnama(page given above) >>
" The brave men on both sides washed their hands of their lives and fought a great battle.
Verse
The brave fought with bow and arrow
All strove with spear and sword
The world was full of diamond-pointed darts
The wind was from dust and BLOOD VERMILION-scattering. 😕
Mughal forces emerged victorious, and Ghazi Khan and other commanders were put to sword. Immense spoil fell into the hands of the victors. " At this time, at the
intercession of a famous Raja* , an order was issued that Raja RamChandra had put the ring of servitude in his ear. 😉 "
Hence, his territories were not to be interfered with. In consequence of these orders Asaf Khan returned to Kara, his suba.
* --> The Raja who made this deal possible was most probably either Birbal, or Man Singh or TodarMal. I will update this, when i get confirmation.
And, in this intermediation, Tansen was
DEMANDED from Raja Ramachandra, and
reluctantly with a HEAVY heart, he had to send Tansen to Akbar. So, Tansen should come soon(as per history).
Now, coming to the
original question , i guess now it's clear, that >>
Raja RamaChandra was attacked. 😉 I have given the entire history of events which led to this attack along with proper BG from many sources.
