Abhay I am asking some questions after ages - no hurry about replies 😃

What is Salima Begum's age or DOB? - How much older is she than Jalal?

If SB was also Jalal's cousin same as Rukayya then why was she married to Behram khan who was probably much older?

What about Salima Begum's parents? Rukayya got married to Jalal around age 9-10 but at what age SB got married to BK?

Were SB's parents alive and did she have different upbringing than Rukayya?

Did SB and Jodha/HK share a very loving relationship as they have shown in JA?

Was she a good poetess as shown in JA?

Different subject

Why is MA talking about Delhi takht? Wasn't Jalal Shehenshah of Hindustan and control entire Mughal empire? Why is there a separate Delhi takht?
If there is then as MA seems to be plotting to get it - who has controlled it till now?

I now wish to know whether it was MUZ or any other Rajvanshi that might have come in the Mughal household. The book isn't a very solid proof and trust me when I tell you this that maximum pages of it are missing! I just wanted to know if there's any truth in it or the writer's attempt to prove his points!

Hi Abhay,

Continuing the discussion on women warriors in India, I want to highlight one name from this old post on your thread. The name mentioned above is slightly misspelt. It should be Rani Rudramma Devi. She was perhaps the only woman to rule over Andhra (then the Kakatiya empire with its capital at Warangal, which is close to Hyderabad) sometime in the 13th century - sentimental about this as this is my home state. 😊

There was even a Telugu movie made on her a few years back though I haven't seen that movie. 😕 This queen was the only child of her parents and so she was "symbolically converted" into a son thru some ritual and made queen after the death of her father Ganapati Devudu. Her name was changed to Rudradev. Many people were opposed to a woman becoming the queen. She became a widow within a few years of marriage. The Kakatiya empire was attacked by the combined forces of the Pandyas, the Hoysalas and the Yadavas. But it could not be defeated. She built the Warangal Fort. She is supposed to have died of battle wounds.

History Geek TFS so much info about MUZ and Akbar. Can u plz tell us about Fatehnama E Chittor and in which year this war with Chittor happened ? Also want to know one more thing if Mewar was captured by Sujamal as shown in the serial and did Akbar retaliated to that event. There is no information available about Sujamal on the internet too. Can u plz update about his ties with MUZ(Writing this name & not Jodha as the name isn't confirmed anywhere. Find it funny though that we have names of Jahangir's HINDU WIVES but not the name of Raja Bharmal's eldest daughter who rose to become the empress & that too in the Mughal Sultanate which is by itself something epic) after he left Amer.

Was there a tradition that the begum who gave birth to the heir apparent became the empress then how come Noorjahan became the empress in Jehangir's reign ?

I also think that MUZ couldn't be Christian as Aurangzeb would have no problems with her to do so much damage to the proofs, tampering with chronicles etc. Also, one more thing makes me think that MUZ was a hindu is that when the show started it is shown as Jalal having no mercy for just about anyone but he forgave Sharif-Ud-Din around 3-4 times which reflects the impact that MUZ had on Jalal.

There is one point that I simply am not agreeing on with u & KDR_81. Jehangir having 20 begums & Akbar who was expansioning the empire having only 8-9 begums. Don't find any logic in it

I think the serial has become truly fictional. First after her Marriage there was one Meena Bazaar held after which she celebrated Holi. Now she has played Holi a second time in Mathura and now they are showing anniversary celebration of Jalal & MUZ.

One more point is to be noted that she might have thought herself to be truly lucky to have a loving husband as Akbar as she might have known after Khusrau's blinding and her neice Manmati Bai's suicide and Khurram being brought up by Ruqaiyaa that the support that Akbar gave to Hindus will soon perish & Islam would return to its barbaric state sooner than later which eventually happened in approx 50 years after Akbar's death.

Just one more question. Do u think true love started between the two started between Akbar & MUZ as Salim took a long time 7yrs to come & in between more begums might have come in his life.

People seem to say that MUZ had only 1 child with Akbar so there love story isn't epic as assumed to be but people seem to forget that after the birth of a child she had to take more care of the baby & probably became the empress too so maybe had very little time to indulge in physical relationship. She was more of moral support & a true wife as being depicted in the serial which he needed pretty badly as he even couldn't trust even Ruqaiyaa completely later on. He had others for his physical needs. The story is epic in a different sense that people r thinking of. First love developing between people of different community & it was a political alliance only and add to that she hated him the most but getting the kind of support that only a true lover will give to his wife. Why would she survive for so long if she didn't had husband's support and everyone from her own community & most of the persons within the Mughal court too not happy with her for bowing down to a Hindu Empress. Also, when she came to the Mughal Empire the general public was in distress because of additional burden of various sorts of wrong practices & taxes. Also, women having no respect and add to that social reforms that even no Hindu ruler had done for the masses such as abolition of Sati & widow remarriage etc. I don't consider it as Hindu-Muslim friendship too as after Akbar there was no real friendship between Hindus & Muslims but only religious tolerance till Shah Jahan's reign.

Not even Jehangir was like that because of which Manmati Bai committed suicide.

hi, Tarunsiingh2007, I am not history expert. But my commonsense says that in those days when the king went out on wars, it used to take years to come back😔.Also, with persons like MM plotting against him, to hv children, that too a son n make him survive was in itself a gr8 task😲..Still let's wait fr history-geek's post fr more info.😃

Thanks Abhay for the many posts on page 86 giving so much reference about the last rites of Rajput royality vis a vis MUZ tomb its so fascinating trying to decipher history through the remaining structures which may have been altered over a period of time.

History though boring for many fascinates me as I am interested in the happenings in the past. On a lighter vien I want to share a example .During the course of my work someone without thinking complained to me that he could not get visuals of Meerabai 🤔 and I had to tell him no video technology was available during that time he should use movie visuals or statues or go to those places temples and build up a story.

So I really like and appreciate your work and so many facts that you have dug up from authentic available resources.

Please answer these Qs when u get time. 😊 No hurry. I understand your time crunch. 😊

Hi Abhay,

Seems like Rajputana (and Jain and Bengali also) influences were prominent on the architecture of FS. 😊 Was this due to the architect (Tuhir Das?) or due to the MUZ?

I want to know a few more things, please. 😊

I believe FS was abandoned sometime in the 1580s (?) by the Mughals. Then why were Akbar and the MUZ again brought to this city and buried here? Did they express any wish to be buried here?

Did AKbar build his mausoleum even while he was still living in FS or later, after abandoning the city?

Why is the MUZ mausoleum separate from that of Akbar, considering they were so close?

And even if it's separate, it's pretty simple compared to Akbar's mausoleum. Why is this so? Dd the MUZ herself approve of the design of her mausoleum or was it built later (after her death) by someone else?

Maddy, she was born in 1539, so about 3 years older to Akbar.

If SB was also Jalal's cousin same as Rukayya then why was she married to Behram khan who was probably much older?

May be because Bairam Khan was the military commander and a very important noble in the Mughal court.

What about Salima Begum's parents? Rukayya got married to Jalal around age 9-10 but at what age SB got married to BK?

Father: Nur ud din Muhammad Mirza
Mother: Gulrang Begum (Humayun's sister)

Salima married BK at 18 years in 1557. He was then in his fifties and already had a wife with whom he had Abdul Rahim.

Were SB's parents alive and did she have different upbringing than Rukayya?

Did SB and Jodha/HK share a very loving relationship as they have shown in JA?

Was she a good poetess as shown in JA?
Yes, she was a good poetess and even maintained a library of all important books of the time.

Different subject

Why is MA talking about Delhi takht? Wasn't Jalal Shehenshah of Hindustan and control entire Mughal empire? Why is there a separate Delhi takht?
If there is then as MA seems to be plotting to get it - who has controlled it till now?

I asked Abhay this Q earlier and this is what he told me: (I am sure, Abhay, you won't mind my copying your answer here 😊)

Jalal is occupying the Delhi takht. He has given it to some nobles to control it as his representatives. Delhi was important as it served as a station between Agra and Lahore. Delhi was also important due to the huge Purana Quila under the occupation of the Mughals.

Abhay will elaborate on these answers and answer the remaining Qs for you. 😊

Radhika & Geeta both of u r wrong perhaps. Geeta said that it used to take years to even finish off the war in those times but she is forgetting that the Mughals brought advanced weaponry when they came to Hindustan which were unheard of during Babur's time itself and thereby were able to defeat even larger sized army of enemy. I think only Chittor"s fight is the longest one that involved Akbar. It took place for 4 months and at the end of it Akbar was so furious that he got 30000 unarmed persons remaining in the fort to be killed. The reality is that no one knows whether he was that much kind hearted till this batttle. I consider him to be great only because of the social reforms that he tried but no one can guarantee that they actually got implemented at the ground level or not. As far as I can remember there was news of child marriage in Rajasthan only around 15 years back. Still child marriages are happening in villages while the govt rules states that girls can't be married off till the age of 18. How can I expect Akbar to ensure that the child marriages got prohibited who depends on Mansabdars & Subedars for every sort of implementation of Farman. Farman is just like a rule which will come into play only if there is some dispute coming in the court which involves that particular Farman. I don't believe him to be a true secular ruler too because Jaziya & Pilgrimage tax were reintroduced even during Akbar's reign. He was perhaps too a bigot.

Radhika you were right that Sujamal captured Mewat & not Mewar. But you saying that this Jodha-Akbar show to be not fiction is far away from the reality. Maybe MUZ & Akbar loved each other a lot but this show is distorting history. First if you have gone through Abhay's & others posts then according to them Mahamanga, Adham Khan & Ataga were dead within a span of 6 months after Akbar's wedding with MUZ. So Mahamanga cann't be the culprit for MUZ giving birth to Salim after 7 years of her marriage with Akbar. One doesn't needs a Hijri calender to see the falsification of Anniversary celebration in this serial. JODHA celebrated her first Holi after the battle of Paronkh. If you will add 10 days of this battle and add 3 days of travel of Jodha reaching Agra after departing from Sambhar &add to it 1 day for the jashna that took place. Add to it that sometime that might have elapsed in between before Ruqaiyaa's miscarriage as shown in the show. After Brij Holi in Mathura she stayed in Amer for more than 15 days as depicted in the serial so there is most probsbly a chance that her anniversary passed away in Amer only.

You were saying that Khusrau was blinded by Jahangir as he revolted against his father but what's the diff between Khusrau & Jahangir if you consider that even Jehangir revolted against his father Akbar. He even declared himself to be the emperor before the throne being vacated by Akbar. How do u know that MUZ was able to resolve the diff between Akbar & Jehangir. So what's the diff between the condition of Manmati Bai & MUZ now. Now think why Manmati Bai committed suicide but MUZ didn't. Atleast Khusrau loved his wife & people think of Jehangir as romantic who kept on seeing different princesses & falling in love with each of them. Love is only once & others are lust only.

Abhay, I think this visit to Salim Chisti in Sikri didn't happened in the year 1563. I think it's somewhere around 1567-68 that they both went to Sikri. There are some events thaat r true but the majority of the show is fiction. I have an opinion that since Akbar never visited any of her Begums daily so to turn MUZ hatred into love might have taken a lot of time. First hatred will be gone & then relationship of friendship starts & slowly this friendship getting converted into love. He was an emperor first & his first priority was to establish the Mughal sultanate. If the show is gonna show that Salim came within 2 years after MUZ wedding with Akbar then what will you do Radhika ? Also, there r other points which make me feel that this show is 90% fiction.

Waiting for Abay's next post on Akbar's children as that will clarify that he intentionally made Jodha MUZ or it was faith on Salim Chisti's forecast that Jodha will be MUZ & thereby constructed Rang Mahal for Jodha.

Hi, Tarunsingh,As I hv already mentioned,in my post, I am not a history expert, but ardent lover of history. I am greatful to each one of the member of the history forum of JO-ak who added to my knowledge without getting irritated Having said that expertcy in any subject is different frm loving a subject, just as having a child is no saboot of love as Radhika said.It is possible to bear a child without loving that person. Similarly even after intense love the couple may be childless due to medical reasons. i can't comprahend a time where hakim sahiba had to be called fr confirmation of pregnancy. If at all, it is the pregnant lady who should be the first person to know that 1. she is prgnant. 2. by whom This drama was being held in the old movies fr audience' sake which is being carried over in the serial.Coming to the point, late pregnancy of Jodha could be due to medical reasons, or due to the upheaval in their relationship, or due to war factor,Or it may also be due to the combination of all .Tarunsingh, pregnancy,is such a thing that till today, the doctors don't hv sureshot answer,fr not concieving in some cases.😕
2. As far as social reforms of akbar r concerned, the answer lies in ur post itself, wherein u hv mentioned that till today the child marriagge has not been abolished. If this is the case in time of electronics, then how can u expect the same in those days?If at all we want to appriciate,it should be fr the bold steps taken by the ruler.n whether the honest attempts were made to implement them. U may remember, Akbar went against the Moulvis in his attempt at reforms Having said that, I am in no way in favour of glorifieing Akbar I too want to ask history-geek if Akbar really was a ruthless king at the age of 13? He has been portrayed as one in the serial Maharana Pratap which is natural as he is not a protagonist there.I hv read all his thread n loved them especilly the lighter way in which he explains the things.👍🏼👏
3.I could not understand the point u wanted to make in the Khsrau incident which is a blot in the history.Don't u see the sons going to the court against their father in inheritaance cases in today's bussiness world? It depends on the grittiness of the woman, how she grins n bears it or gives in to that pressure😭 I think it was shahjahan who was known to be romantic because of Tazmahal But he was not less cruel than Aurangzeb as he killed all his brothers n uncles fr the sake of throne.😲 he continued romancing with other queens (unlike shown in the movie )even after the death of Mumtaaz. It is an irony that we remember him only as a rimantic king, whereas he shud hv been regarded as another aurangzeb.😡
4. Lastly havn't u seen the disclaimer?😛 how can a serial with such a controvercial subject run fr 7 years just to show Salim born😆They can say in a dialogue that 7 years passed, which they will not do because of 'uchit natakiya roopantar'. I agree that makers hv botched upwith not one but many a things, including chronology, holi being the fvrt subject of all😉👎🏼 But as long as we come to know abt the correct things thru abhay n co.(special regards to myviewprem, donjas, Ela ), I can just laugh it away.

Geeta, I am not asking the makers of the serial to run the show for 7 years & then show Salim's birth but the sequencing of events should be such that the show becomes palatable atleast. Neither anyone has the time to see foolish serial for 7 years. No one will get true history in any historical show. You will have to research like Abhay does.

This show is depicting Akbar as one woman man in the serial right now but he ever became one cann't be predicted for sure. If he found true love so early in his life then why he marry 5-6 begums more after MUZ & no one knows for sure that how many begums he had from this Chagtai practice. Don't know if it is known as mutka nikah also or not.

I have mentioned about Khusrau because people have false hopes of Hindu-Muslim unity in the Mughal sultanate. It's understandable that a son isn't listening to his mother but what can be understood by Jehangir's blinding of his son Khusrau that he had no sort of feelings for Manmati Bai. Jehangir could have imprisoned or exiled Khusrau from his empire but no he showed ruthlessness. Neither son or husband listened to Manmati Bai & thereby I don't see any sort of love between Jehangir & Manmati Bai as she might not have got atleast the support of her husband & thereby committed suicide. Some muslims celebrating Hindu festivals in their fort & giving a little bit of religious liberty to their Hindu begums cann't be thought of Hindu-Muslim unity. The Mughals especially Jehangir & Akbar even visited temples but weren't able to get themselves popular with the Hindu fraternity. Just answer my one question if you really think there was any Hindu-Muslim unity.

How many temples did the Mughals robbed or destroyed even after befriending the Rajputs whenever they went to war anywhere. If the temples got destroyed then was the temple rebuilted or a Mosque or Mazaar for these so called Pir or Fakir was built. How many temples were built in the so called Hindu-Muslim unity period and how many mosques etc were built ?

Islam spreads love. What sort of love ? Demanding Jaziya from non-muslims is what according to just about anybody's point of view. Go to Pakistan and live there as a Hindu. You will get to know about Islam's love preaching much better over there.

The truth is the Mughals weren't that great. It's only that their time had come & arts, architecture, music, painting & literature had to flourish and that happened.

If Akbar reigned for so long because of awaam's dua then what happened with awaam's buddua for Aurangzeb but still reigned long enough. It's just destiny.
