Some excerpts from an article appeared on cybernoon.com at quarter-finals of JDJ.

The four participating choreographers are sceptical of what the outcome of last week's performances will be. "Those who usually do not vote for us, have voted for us this time," said Sonia, adding that she and Manjrekar had a good chance. "The three couples who survive this time's elimination, all have a good chance to win," added Sonia.

Talking about Mona's and his chances of winning, choreographer Toby said it all depended on the audience votes. "Mahesh and Shveta are very technical in their approach to the performance. Since everybody has his or her own strong points and dancing skills, it is quite difficult to say who will win. I sure hope it is us, though."

Longinus, however, was not confident about winning. "I have a gut feeling that it surely is not going to be Shveta and me who will win the competition. I may be able to win the hearts of the judges, but I am not confident about winning the hearts of the audiences. My main aim is to be a part of the final," said Longinus.

Whereas Jadeja's choreographer Rhea Krishnatraye wished that she had more time to train him. "All the celebrities have worked very hard to dance well. But I think that the winner should be either Shweta or Mona, as this winning will add a chip to their careers. Mahesh and Ajay are already settled career-wise," said Rhea.

'I gave Shilpa Shetty a hug'

Akashhdeep Saigal says all's well on the sets of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa

After lashing out at judges of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa sometime ago, you are now back for the finale?

• I didn't lash out. I just expressed something I felt at that point. I'm sure even the judges, the channel and the production house knew that I was just expressing something I felt then. That's why they telecast it.
Was everything fine on the sets when you went back?

• Absolutely. It was all very positive. It's the same happy Jhalak Dikhla Jaa family.
Did you meet the judges?

• I met Shilpa (Shetty). She was very sweet. I went and hugged her. I asked her if she was still angry and she said no. And we both laughed.
What about the other judges, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Farah Khan?

• If I meet them I will say a hi and give them a big smile. There's nothing on my mind and I'm sure there's nothing on their minds either. We are all professionals and mature people.
Do you regret speaking out in that episode?

• I spoke what was right for that moment and I don't think I need to say anything anymore now. At times issues get blown out of proportion in the media. And this happens with me often!
Are you a better dancer today?

• Yes, I've definitely improved tremendously. For the finale I picked steps in half an hour. Whether I'm a great dancer or not, I've learnt a lot.

Jassi wins Jhalak... title

May the best dancer win? Well, Mona Singh's popularity seems to have had the edge over Shveta Salve's talent

Subhash K Jha

It's final. The first winner of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa is Mona 'Jassi' Singh. This puts an and to the suspenseful contest between the two finalists Mona Singh and Shveta Salve and their respective choreographers, Toby and Longi.

While Mona was over the moon minutes after the SMS votes from audiences declared her winner, Shveta, considered a far more superior dancer by most and declared the best dancer since Madhuri Dixit by judge Sanjay Leela Bhansali, lost by a narrow margin.

Hours before the verdict Shveta had said, "I've done my best. Even if Mona wins I'd be equally happy. I'm having a party for family and friends regardless of whether I finally win or not. I've enjoyed every second of this contest, although I must admit some comments by fellow-contestants did affect me personally and also affected my chances adversely."

Mona on the other hand is ecstatic about the open support provided to her by the contestants. "I'm referring especially to Pooja Bedi who went out of her way to express her support for me. It was very, very sweet of her. Considering I was no dancer to begin with, I think this whole experience has changed my life . Yeah, I'm over the moon," said Mona.

Mona on a self promotion trip

Jhalak Dikhla Jaa finalist Mona Singh is promoting herself and trying to garner votes. Mona recently performed some dance numbers at Lokhandawala market and asked the onlookers for their support and votes for Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa . Seems like she is trying to cash in on her popularity quotient which itself has helped her to reach this far.

"We have got one week to promote ourselves and I am doing so. I have got a lot of support from the people and they have seen me working hard. I lost a lot of weight for the competition. I think hard work would definitely pay off," she said hopeful of a good outcome. In the finals, Shveta Salve is ahead of Mona by a few points. But she believes that public vote matters a lot. "It depends on the vote. The janta has to decide. I have entertained people and have done my job," she said.

Shveta Salve has been a consistent good performer and has exhibited her dancing skills from day one on the show. On the other hand, from starting out as an average performer, Mona has improved by leaps and bounds in the show. And how important is winning for her? She says, "It is very important to win. It's a celebrity dance show and that wish would be on every one's mind,"

Mona Singh celebrates with choreographer Tobby, while losing finalists Shveta Salve and Longi look on
Pic: Rane Ashish
Winner of Sony's reality-based dance show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Mona Singh is looking forward to gorging on all the food she has been deprived of for the past few months.

Singh trounced actress Shveta Salve to win the grand finale last evening, grabbing Rs 50 lakh and a crystal trophy.

"For over three months I have not been eating fried and fatty foods. Now, I'm going to break that rule. I want to put on weight again," the ecstatic actress said.

Singh, of Jassi fame, attributes her success to amrit (holy water) and Lord Siddhivinayak.

"Before leaving from my house, I drank amrit and then visited Siddhivinayak temple to offer my prayers. I had kept a mannat as well, and now that I have won I'm going to keep a day's langar this coming Sunday at a local gurudwara," she says.

Was she under a lot of pressure? "My mom has been sobbing all day long and urging me to take the results in good spirit. I simply kept my fingers crossed, because Shveta is a tough contender. I'm glad that I've broken my Jassi image!"

Shveta Salve and her choreographer Longi
However, beau Karan Oberoi reveals that he wasn't expecting the results to be in Singh's favour. "I wasn't quite sure till they announced the results. I'm overwhelmed. Mona more than deserved it for the hardworking girl that she is. Aunty (referring to Mona Singh's mother) hasn't stopped crying since."

Money matters

As far as the prize money is concerned, an ecstatic Singh hasn't yet given it a thought. "All these weeks I never let the money aspect rule my mind. My goal was to win the contest. I believe you should work as if you don't need the money, love as if you have never been hurt and dance as if nobody is watching you," she says.

Salve disappears

Hotstepper Shveta Salve was visibly disappointed with the results. She even went into hiding inside her van after stepping out of the sets.

"I'm human and I'm feeling a little low. But I'm glad that the show has come to a close and I don't have to deal with the pressure," she says.

While the rest of the contestants and choreographers headed for Aziano at Phoenix Mills for some revelry, Salve was in no mood for any celebration. "I'm heading home. I need a good night's sleep."

Jhalak's finale charms with its flaws!

Everyone foresaw Mona Singh take the crystal trophy home and that's exactly what happened last night on the grand finale of Sony's Jhalak Dhikhhla Ja. While Mona, (showered by kisses, sparkles and congratulations) celebrated her moment in time with choreographer Toby, Shveta Salve found it a little difficult to control and was in tears the very next minute. The final episode was worth a watch both for its charm and flaws!

Shveta's bewitching performance on Madhuri's Ek Do Teen left everybody spellbound, as the striking resemblance between the telly star and celluloid's superstar was unbelievable! While Longgi's choreography was out of this world, Toby too didn't lag behind. Piya tu ab toh aaja was the sensous track chosen by the punjabi kudi, Mona.

But somehow the dance of envy act perfomed by the two graceful ladies fell flat. This round was certainly meant to get the leading beauties in an agressive mode, but it made them look a little dry.

The highlight of the show were the twosome, Archana Singh and Parmeet Sethi who lived up to everyone's expectations. But looks like anchoring has mellowed down the fire in their dance which resulted in a very bland performance. But the judges still went gaga over their dull performance!

Mona and Shveta's fellow contestants performed in a way which was never seen before. Mahesh Manjrekar as usual in his unusual style stole many hearts. Along with Mahesh, Ajay Jadeja too gave in his best for the finale and for the first time was not termed as a 'teapot'. The duo danced on Aa Dekhe Zara and set the stage ablaze. What took everyone's breath away was Pooja Bedi's stunning act on her debut hindi song Pehla Nasha. She gave her choreographers a tough time as her beauty and elegant moves grabbed all the attention.

Akashdeep Sehgal who has raked up many controversies post his exit from the show seemed to be very cool and calm. His stunning looks coupled with an awesome Indian outfit appeared to be made for each other! And his witty answer to Archana when asked whom will the junta support of the two ladies was something which could not be missed!

Rati Agnihotri and Sanjeev Kapoor maintained their position as mediocre performers but their efforts could not be overlooked!

The choreographers geared up for some wild performances. The weight in their performance left Shilpa Shetty's (One of the three judges) tongue twisted. Instead of saying they deserve a big round of applause, she said "We deserve to give them a big round of applause!" Well, Shilpa we guess you are better off with your 'superb'!

Farah Khan herself took to the stage with all the choreographers dancing on her fave Gori Gori. The finale would have been incomplete without Shilpa Shetty's hot moves on the dance floor. She shaked a leg on her renonwed item number UP Bihar lootne and earned many accolades!

Pooja, habitually honest, was very vocal about her preference between the two and said it aloud that her vote is reserved for Mona!

Farah certainly pushed it too far when the hosts and judges got nostalgic, saying, in Jhalak... they gave Rs.500 instead of Rs.100. This comment or taunt was very blatant and sounded tacky!

Heartbeats pounded big time when the most awaited moment was drawing near; the announcement of the winner who would take home Rs. 5000000 and the trophy. Immediately after Mona was declared the winner Archana straight away went up to Shveta for her comment, also Shilpa first gave a standing ovation to Shveta and then congratulated Mona which seemed to be very funny!

And calling Shveta a winner even before congratulating Mona (who is the actual winner) made it very apparent that even though Mona has won the contest, Shveta deserved it more! Did they suffer from a memory lapse that it's a reality show?

All in all, the grand finale was worth a watch if we marginalize those evident blemishes!

Shveta ka naach, Mona ke saath!

The most rocking party of the day had to be this! Sony celebrated the completion of their show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and certainly upped the rocking quotient with this do! Mona Singh was the cynosure of all eyes here. And why not? The lady looked like a hundred dollars in a bright pink outfit and danced with almost everyone. She entered with her parents, nephew and 'good friend' Karan Oberoi in tow. Interestingly, since she was being asked by everyone to dance with, Karan sportingly held her little nephew in his arms. Cho chweet na? Another sporting lady was
Shveta Salve, who didn't mind losing out to Mona on the show and danced with her as well as with fiance Rodney Barnes. Good going girl!

Akashh Deep Saigal walked in with friend Nicole and although he was wore a western outfit, the tilak stayed put on his forehead. Ajay Jadeja danced all night long. Mahesh Manjarekar danced with his daughter and truly enjoyed the evening. The graceful Pooja Bedi left 'close friend' Hanif Hilal's side and shook a leg with Siddharth Basu for some time.
GUY CANDY! It was a role reversal of sorts as the men descended on the dance floor giving the women quite some competition. Ajay, Mahesh, Siddharth and Sanjeev Kapoor were the men to watch out for as they shook a leg on the dance floor!

People don't vote for your dancing abilities'

Shveta Salve expresses her anguish at losing in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa; is hopeful of doing films

Subhash K Jha

Barely 12 hours after she lost the Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa trophy to Mona Singh, Shveta Salve is truly heartbroken. "It has been difficult to come to terms with the end of Jhalak…," she says in a subdued voice. Friends and fianc Rodney are at her residence trying to cheer her up. But it isn't working. "Frankly I was prepared for the worst. I'd have been quite surprised if I had won," she says.

The general feeling that she was a much better dancer than Mona Singh evokes a mirthless laugh from her. "I don't know. The results say otherwise. People voted for Mona. They liked her better. We've to accept that she was more popular than me. In these contests people don't vote for your abilities as much as your ability to connect with the audience. The results prove Mona connected better. And I'm happy for her. Whatever votes I got were for my dancing. I've never been in a very popular serial like Mona has. If I went to the finals it was only because of my dancing abilities. I'm glad a certain section of the people liked my dancing," she says.

It was believed that Mona's performances evolved over a period of time while Shveta's dancing prowess was on display right from the outset.

"We all had a month to train. If I made optimum use of that training period, is that my fault? I must've picked up the steps and responded to my choreographer's instruction better and faster than others," she says.

Shveta admits she looked shattered on camera when the results were announced. "It wasn't so much because I lost to Mona, but more the realisation that this was the last time I would dance on a public platform. It was the realisation that I'd never be doing this again which made me miserable. It hit me like a bolt that I'd never hit the dance floor again. Where's the opportunity to dance in television serials? I hope I get a larger platform," says Shveta.

Meanwhile, Shveta is hoping to get a chance to do films. "That's where I stand a better chance to dance. I'm a performer. I love to dance, and I'd love pursue dancing," she says.

For now Shveta returns to shooting for her soap Left Right Left. "I've to keep my commitments. The judges Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Farah Khan were so appreciative. Maybe one day I'll get to work with them."

What about plans to tie the knot? "Rodney has been wonderfully appreciative. He says he's glad I didn't win Jhalak… because if I had I'd have left him and gone on to greener pastures."
