What to expect from tomorrow's JDJ episode

On this week's Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 3 (Sony, Fri-Sat at 9pm) episode, each contestant and their choreographer had to incorporate two props, given to them by the judges, into their performance.

A source from the sets says, "Though it was not a romantic song special, most of the contestants chose romantic songs for their performances. Parul, who has been getting mixed responses in the past two weeks turned out to perform her best this episode. She was very happy when the judges praised her for her free style dance. Her choreographer Deepak has been working hard with her. They scored 29 marks."

The second shocker of the episode was Baichung. The source adds, "He performed with Sonia on Pehli Nazar Main from Race. Their chemistry and their steps were perfect. They did the rumba and were the highest scorers of the episode with 30 marks. Saroj gave them 100 rupees too. Monica Bedi was the highest scorer among the girls with 30 marks. Her last performance was not too good but this time, she proved herself. She too did the rumba."
Meanwhile, last week's best performer Shilpa disappointed everyone with her act. "She had to listen to harsh comments from the judges. She was the lowest scorer of the evening with 20 marks. Among the boys, Ram Kapoor received only 22 marks and was the lowest scorer," says the source.

Lastly, Gauhar Khan had a mishap on the sets. The actress hit her head while she came out of the studio. Thankfully, she only sustained a small scratch.

Karan and Shradha: Let's get digital

Television's hot couple Karan Grover and his new wife Shradha will soon give their fans a peek into their personal lives- through a video blog! They are in the process of setting up their 'ehome' where readers will be able to get first hand information from the couple themselves.

KARAN says, "I have been getting so much love from people all over the world, and I want to be able to thank them and interact with them! This blog will be our space to share our thoughts, ideas and connect to those who like to be entertained by us!"
His better half, Shradha, adds, "We live in a digital age and the future will be even more tied to the digital world! We thought what better way to reach out to our audience than a blog where we can interact directly!"

Blogging has become a common trend among celebrities but the fact that Karan and Shradha will be sharing their cyber space makes their venture twice as nice. The net-savvy duo will be the first celebrity couple bloggers. Their blog, Karan and Shradha's KS Blog, launches soon and through it, they will be able to connect with their audiences directly across the globe.

The KS Blog will have rooms like 'The Library' with their reviews, 'To The Kitchen' and even a 'Treasure Chest' with their secrets and a 'Playroom' with fun things to do. Fans will be able to browse through video blogs of the stars instead of just the usual written entries.

Karan and Shradha ehome will be inaugurated on March 27.

Parul: I'm working hard to reach the finals

Parul Chauhan (Ragini of Bidaai on Star Plus, Mon-Fri at 9pm) is getting the hang of her first reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. Last week, Parul performed the samba for the first time and this week, she tried out freestyle dance.

Parul has not even heard about these non-Indian dance styles such as the samba before. She says, "When Deepak mentioned it I started laughing. Initially, I was nervous but I got to enjoy it later on."
The actress says that she is trying to get used to the revealing dance outfits. "I carried off my costume well and received many praises. I do wear Western wear but only stuff that I feel comfortable in, such as knee length skirts. However, the dress I performed in had a low neckline. I have never worn something like that before but the dance form was such that it was requited. I covered myself with a shawl before and after the performance during the filming of the show. Thankfully, my performance took place first," says Parul.

Full of praise for her choreographer Deepak, Parul says, "He made all the steps easy for me. He makes me comfortable with all the difficult steps so that it doesn't feel like I am doing a complicated routine. I know Deepak was last year's winner so I am working hard to reach the final with him. However, the rest depends on public voting; anything can happen. I hope we get good responses. Everything happens according to fate."

After three weeks on Jhalak, Parul finds it difficult to see her fellow contestants get eliminated. She says, "I am a very emotional person and I felt really bad when Tobby was eliminated after the first week. He told me not to cry and tum toh lambi race ka ghoda ho. Even when Ugesh was eliminated, I felt sad. He would come to my rehearsals and cheered me on by saying 'you won't win by fighting with people but by performing well'."

As for the other contestants, Parul is feeling quite at home with them. She adds, "Karan calls me 'gudiya' and asks me to smile for him as he likes my smile. Ram calls me 'sweet baby'. I am who I am on the show. I am quite bubbly in real life too. I have a good equation with everyone."

Talking about her family's reaction to her performances, she says, "My mother broke down on the phone when she saw me fainting on the show. She wanted me leave everything and rest. She cannot come to the sets regularly as my father is a blood pressure patient but she gave me many instructions about my meals. Everyone is proud of me, they like my performances."

This week, Parul finally managed to impress the judges with her freestyle performance. She scored 29 marks.

NRIs are preferred in India: Hard Kaur
Ravneet Kaur in a freewheeling chat with the rapper, who can get dance floors moving from Manchester to Mumbai...
    Hard Kaur More Pics

Welcome to a new place... understand, I am revolution... That's Taran Kaur Dhillon aka Hard Kaur announcing her arrival in her debut album as UK's first Asian rap artist. Currently displaying her moves on Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, India's first female rapper had her Bollywood break with Johnny Gaddar and since then, has sung for movies like Ugly Aur Pagli, Singh is King, Kismat Konnection, Bachna Ae Haseeno and lately Jai Aur Veeru. She also has Ajab Prem ki Gajab Kahani and a Yash Raj production in her kitty.

What's the story behind Hard Kaur ....how did you get this name?

My real name is Taran Kaur. Once outside Panjabi MC studio a group of boys made fun of me and said, "Yeh ladhki kya rap shap karegi?". I rapped and they were amazed ?they commented that since I always fight and am 'hard', my name should be Hard Kaur! Slowly, I became popular by this name.

How did the whole rap thing start?

I was in England and fell in love with hip-hop music and started rapping. Earlier, boys made fun of me but when they realised I had talent, things got easier. Rapping is something you can't learn at music school, as it's all about using your creativity and intelligence. It's about people and not about bling-bling. You can't copy it.

    How did your family react?

I lost my father when I was just five years old. My mom has always stood by me. When I told her I wanted to be a rapper, she asked me if I could do it, "Dar toh nahi lagega?" I was confident and replied, "Darr kis gal mai jyada ladaki haaa (What's there to fear? I can fight better than them.)" As for my relatives, they were never for it, but now that I'm famous, everything has changed!

It must have been rough going professionally?

I have suffered a lot mentally, emotionally and physically. But, I believe that it's up to us to perceive a situation as good or bad... I'm an optimist and all the challenges that came my way have made me wiser and helped me develop a thick skin! If bad things don't happen, you won't realise the importance of good things in your life and you wouldn't learn either.

If you had started out in India, would you have done as well?

NRIs are preferred here. And, if I had been living in India, I wouldn't be Hard Kaur but a housewife handling four kids. In India, there are false religious issues and traditions which in some way or the other come in the way of success.

You have a bindaas attitude... how has this served you in your career?

The industry can be quite a difficult place. Thanks to my attitude, I have never been a victim of the casting couch. People call me only for work. They know that they dare not try to mess with me. At times, people have the wrong impression about me, but that changes once they meet me.

Tell us about your practice sessions for Jhalak... what are your chances of winning?

Oh, it's really tough... I practice six to eight hours a day. They have set high standards that are really difficult to meet. It's not about winning, or the money. I'm enjoying my performances and learning new things.

What's your favourite dance form and have you had any training?

I haven't had any training, but can shake my leg in clubs and parties. For Jhalak..., the entire credit goes to Savio. I like hip-hop, which I'll be performing in the coming episode and can bet that kisi ka baap bhi try nahi karega (nobody can think of beating me here)!

Who's your favourite participant in Jhalak...?

I have fun with everybody but don't get too involved. Mohinder Amarnath is my favourite; he treats me like a daughter. I also like Bhaichung Bhutia because he is too cute, Monica Bedi since we have the Punjabi accent in common and Ram Kapoor, because he is just like me and he often says 'tu meri female copy hai'.

We've heard that you lost a lot weight for Jhalak... is that true?

Not lot of weight ? main itni moti bhi nahi thi! But, yes, I had put on weight after I came back from London. Being a Punjabi, I love food and stuff myself with everything that comes my way, but fish is my all-time favourite. I'm happy that I have lost weight by learning dance and earning as well in the process!

You have a unique dressing style. Who picks your clothes?

I'm stylish and like to dress well. I usually shop abroad and pick up whatever's trendy and stylish. It also depends on my mood. The credit also goes to my designer Shantanu and Nikhil, and Drashta Sarvaiya who supported me since my struggling days.

What do you love about being a celeb?

There was a time when I didn't have money to buy expensive clothes, but now I get beautiful outfits for free! Plus, people love, recognize you...!

    Tell us a secret...

I was born in 1984. I've disclosed my age, what can be bigger than this?

    Koena's TV debut

    28 Mar 2009, 0000 hrs IST

Television seems to have become the favourite refuge of Bollywood stars.
    Koena Mitra

And the latest to join the bandwagon is Koena Mitra. The Bong babe is apparently going to be the wild card entry in Jhalak Dikhhla Ja. And if rumours are to be believed, the other participants are not too happy with these developments because they know that Koena will be adept at Bollywood dancing atleast.

Now moving to filmi numbers has never been a problem for this sexy actress, but will she be able to manage international dance forms like waltz, rumba, salsa et al? Or will the likes of Hard Kaur and Gauhar Khan give her stiff competition? Now that's something to be seen!

Gauhar Khan: I am a quick learner

Model Gauhar Khan has already captured the hearts of thousands with her performances on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. The model, who has been burning up the dance floor talks about her first reality show and her journey so far?

"Everything so far has been excellent! I've waited for an opportunity to showcase my talent and I have finally got it," exclaims the excited Gauhar.
The gorgeous gal is so excited about the show that she can barely stop talking about it.

She tells us about the atmosphere in the Jhalak house, "Oh, it is really fun! We all gel very well with each other and have loads of fun during rehearsals. Each of us gets three days for rehearsals, so we (choreographer Hanif and her) try to utilise the time well by working hard."

The duo has been getting along so well that Gauhar clears the air about all the controversies and problems which she had with her choreographer Hanif. She says, "The coordination between the two of us has been great. Initially, there were some issues but then, as I've always said, we had no personal grudges against each other. In the coming week, you will be amazed to see the chemistry between us."

Extremely happy with the responses so far, this beautiful damsel has only word to describe it: 'fabulous!'

However, when asked as to how she would rate herself as a dancer, she says, "I wouldn't like to rate myself on a numbers scale. All I can say is that I am a quick learner and can easily pick up steps."

Even though she has picked up the steps fast, Gauhar says that all the contestants are tough competition. She says, "For me, everybody is very tough… when I look at Mohinder ji, I am simply amazed to see his enthusiasm at this stage. He's so great! Even Hard Kaur and Shilpa are good. In fact, all of them are all good."

The model is working very hard to impress with her dance moves. We ask her whether she has plans to act in the future too. She says, "I am a trained actor so if something really nice and exciting comes my way, I would definitely give it a thought."

Catch Gauhar swirling on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa every Friday and Saturday at 9pm on Sony TV.
