Truly said @TM.
I guess if foreigners watches Indian Serials and have never visited India..then they must be picturing India as regressive atrocious and way backward. Flooded with MCPs , working career conscious female lead yet bechari abla dukhiyari doormat yet whiter than snow white, dayan chudail naagin and vamps who are always modern and stylish as well..point to be noted you can never be good if ur lifestyle is modern. and for story 😕🤢.

No use of sending any message. Gul will always give ridiculous excuses. During Qubool Hai, some people wrote complaints against the show at least 3-4 times but she only got worse after each complaint. You are right. Shivaay looks like a villain. It reminds me of hindi movie where a girl gets molested and raped after being chased by the villain and his men. If it was 70s or 80s, Shivaay could have easily passed as a villain. But in 2016, we get such nonsense. Still Shivaay is supported by girls here and on Instagram. No wonder why men are becoming more jerks in our country instead of treating women with respect. This Gul is only getting more creepy years after years. What next? Gul will show hero raping heroine as normal. Then also he will be supported. India has gone till moon but Gul is still in gutter and gandi naali.

u are right, dear! even my mom used to talk about that show swabhimaan and there was another one with pakistani artists and indian actors, forgot the name but very good as well! the issue is now they have shows which run for years and the storyline takes a toss. also, people in india want this content - for example, i was called out by a gul fan yesterday for calling her regressive just because they love her!
people are not ready to hear the truth as long as she has their fav pair together onscreen, emotional trauma for the girl be dammed! but its the young girl brigade supporting such kind of stories and progression that appalls me to no end
i think is because of this mills and boons fantasy created by such shows that young girls sit and watch and are like voah this is amazing! and for some reason manhandling the heroine is fine as well as long as its by the hero 😆

@bold - so true and then they wonder why india is labelled as one of the most unsafe countries for women! and the worst is that women there sit and produce such nonsense and find support from other women😕

@ash i was talking to my cousins in india and they are like wth - we dont watch all this! find better ways to brush your hindi, please 😆

Today's USA also doesn't NEED Trump, but we are all saddled with him anyway, no? 😆
The point is, DRAMA sells. And with the kind of episodic structure and TRP-driven content desi tv has, few shows manage to stick to their original plot post-100 episodes, and sometimes not even that. We ought to have some kind of statutory warning for Gul's shows though, especially for the unsuspecting NRIs; they attract huge attention online and then the inevitable debates start about regressive heroes and misogynist treatment, when the harsh truth is that all her shows THRIVE on the classic M&B dynamic from Day 1. So if you've been hooked by that and then started taking it seriously along the way, joke's on you. 😆

To be fair to the channel though, they are trying with shows like P.O.W, so if you're genuinely interested in more intelligent content, I suggest you try that (even if it is an adaptation of popular Western shows).

Some girls hate her if she behaves rudely with the hero and now most probably enjoying her state of her being shattered due to losing her family and being imprisoned by the hero and soon will become his 3rd wife in a forced marriage. If that character was a make then the same girls would have sympathesized with him no matter what he would do giving excuse of his family environment but a woman can't be excused for the same. In this show itself, Ishaana was hated like anything but Shivaay is worshipped just because he is a man. If a man does any wrong it's attitude and if a woman does the same she is a bitch.

TM, I saw you in the forum of Gul' s longest running show. I think you left that forum or even show when the hero slapped heroine.

Yes, I gave that show a chance because it made me laugh and smile at first and then it became creepy. Glad you remember, thanks for commenting. Yes, the misogyny does exist, but when you open your mouth to say something, people on these forums insult you as if you are insulting them or their family. Is that fair? I am not insulting anyone, I'm simply asking why we can't change this aspect of our culture when so many other things have changed.

With your reference to my future president and words like "jokes on you" and "unsuspecting NRIs", it seems to me like you are offended/upset by my honest views and are trying to start a India vs. America debate here for no good reason.
I do not wish to compare one country's president with content on TV which doesn't need millions of votes to change. Hope you got the point. P.S.- It is perfectly fine to start liking one aspect of a story and getting "hooked" to it, and then disliking the portrayal of emotional abuse, misogyny, classism etc. Who said opinions couldn't change and that it should be " jokes on you" if your opinions change. I really did not understand why you would judge me for liking a show for its romance which slowly turns into torture and a forced marriage.
Thanks for commenting, have a good one!

@NYCForever- Yes, I went to school in India for a couple of years when my Mom decided to move for her parents, and all my school friends found these shows absurd and watched American shows. Even now, they don't even know the names of popular TV actors or which shows they were a part of. We watch this stuff out of a hunger for our culture here bc as someone pointed out, we don't get to interact with our community much. And then we get bashed on forums by people from our culture for watching this in the first place.

yes to everything you both wrote especially the bold, i was insulted recently just because i called out the loop holes. you are expected to just love everything - nonsensical or not that is dished out by the show producers and worship them! its such a sorry state, that women cant stand grey female characters but are ok with a female grabbing, insulting hero!
we use ways to stay close to our culture somehow way more than people in india - i am comparing to my cousins there and then we are laughed at for trying to do so and dare we point out any issues - thats not allowed at all. oh the irony 😆

What is take home from watching this? Will Shivay ever have anything to give back to Anika? And why should Anika even put up with a person who does not respect her... From past 2-3 days I am finding this serial disgusting

That's exactly how I feel. Disguisted. How can this be called a love story when all he wants to do is judge her at every step of their journey together? And we are not talking about judging about minor things like habits and all, we are talking character and socioeconomic background, which are important aspects of a person's personality. In real life, this would be a dysfunctional marriage. I always had that " made for each other" feeling when I saw these characters and now it feels disguisting because of the forced marriage and suspecting her to be characterless.

But I am sure they also don't behave like the way shivay behaving. 5 years back when I was still a teenage I used to watch IPK and used to love that show bcoz of the handsome hero and the charm of classic Indian touch on heroine used to amaze me. But now the time has changed..I cannot take the same regressive thoughts on the name of hate love story anymore..I stopped watching IB and I don't know when I can start to watch it again..already life is full of tension and we want to see something refreshing on TV. I love watching my country people on TV..their story, their festival..makes me feel good..but don't want to spoil my mood seeing this bull shit anymore..this is not nayi soch..this is the same old soch of gul Khan which is not changed even after so many years!

@bold- Exactly. Like in India or elsehwere, if someone in a Hindu wedding was dragging the bride around like that for pheras by pulling on her, would the wedding guests not find it abnormal? Yet, it is being shown happening in a rich family where so many people are present. That's so nonsensical, and then you have people asking you why you started watching. Ummm...because I thought she learned from her mistakes and because I can't see the future and didn't know that a mostly comical show would have a forced marriage with bride crying under a veil!

Yes, we already have stress in our lives, and we definitely don't need to tolerate weeks of "suspense" to end up watching sadism.
