Divya Prem actress Megha Ray shares her heartfelt Durga Puja memories

As the festive season begins, the country gears up for one of the most celebrated festivals — Durga Puja. Known for its grandeur, vibrant pandals, rhythmic dhaak, and the blessings of Maa Durga, the festival brings families and communities together in joy and devotion. Actress Megha Ray, who plays Divya in Sun Neo’s Divya Prem: Pyaar Aur Rahasya Ki Kahani, recently opened up about her special connection with this festival and the memories that make it close to her heart.

A Bengali Celebration with a Personal Touch

Talking about the significance of Durga Puja, Megha shared, “Being a Bengali, Durga Puja has always been very special to us. We’ve always celebrated it in its fullest glory. Although keeping a Navratri fast is not exactly a traditional Bengali practice, my mother has adapted to the customs of the place she lives in and has been observing the Navratri fast for some time. Watching her do it alone, I often felt the urge to give her company. In fact, my very first Navratri fast was during the COVID lockdown. Since I was at home with her all day, I wanted to accompany her, and that’s where it all started.”

Although Megha will not be observing the full nine-day fast this year due to her busy shoot schedule, she added that she would still celebrate the festival in small but meaningful ways. “My most special memory will always be that first nine-day fast I kept just to give my mother company,” she recalled fondly.

Fond Childhood Memories of Durga Puja

Reminiscing about her growing-up years, Megha said, “As a child, my family and I celebrated Durga Puja by visiting pandals and enjoying the delicious bhog. Watching the grand idol of Maa Durga has always been a magical experience. Even today, I make sure to take out at least one day to visit a Durga pandal with my mother.”

Maa Durga’s Inspiring Qualities

Megha also spoke about the qualities of Maa Durga that inspire her both personally and professionally. “Strength, power, and positivity are qualities I feel deeply connected with. Perhaps that’s why I’m drawn to roles that carry these traits. Out of the five shows I’ve done so far, most of my characters have been strong, independent women who fight against odds. I believe that side exists in me too.”
