I agree with you"ll totally.
Now a days its like praising Rafi Saab is considered a sin or a crime.
Cause when Jeetuji. who seems to be a real ardent fan of Rafi saab wanted to praise Rafi saab had to say Rafi saab bhi achchha gaate the.
Why the hell they do have guts tocome out with what the fact which is
Rafi sirf achchha nahin gaate the, Rafi saab sab se achchha gaate the.
If he was not the best singer, do you think, he would have survived for more than 2 decades
competing with BOTH the MANGESHKAR sisters.
I think we all rafi saabs friend should get together on his facebook page.
I do not know who is pdating it, but his ardent fan Sonu is active on it.
That is a bigger platform to come out in favour of Rafi Saab.

Go Rafi Saab fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My friend I think you got it wrong here. By saying "rafi sahab bhi acha gate the.." jeetu ji was trying to say to the judges that rafi's voice suited rajesh khanna as brilliantly as Kishore's... cause if you see the episode they were prasing pancham da and kishore ...so jeetu ji kinda taunted everybody that not only kishore kumar but rafi sahab bhi rajesh khanna per acha gatey they..thats what he meant...cause idk if you know or not, when rafi sahab's academy got open, he was there and he got real emotional about rafi sahab, he is die hard fan of rafi sahab.

I think you are right , I did not understand the that Jeetuji was taunting them.
I could not make myself very clear too. I have no doubt that Jeetu ji has very high regards for Rafi Saab.
I thought that inspite of having that high respect for Rafi Saab he could not praise Rafi Saab whole heartedly because of the people around him.

I wish they dont do Rafi Saheb's show on Indian Idol. Looking at the standard of singing here, it can never be tribute but insult to this great soul. Rafi saheb died on 31st July in Ramazaan, and it is again Ramazaan time and 31st July.

Jas ji, I agree with you, every reality show we see, they are singing Kishore kumar songs or other singers. Nobody sings rafi numbers, very few attempt it. I think this is because they know they cant do justice to his songs. There used to be a show on Sony tv called "Melody". Once people asked Kumar Sanu to sing a rafi song, and his reaction was "baap re baap, rafi sahab,!! marwao ge yaar"

This tells us what gem of a singer he was.

Rafi saheb ke gaana ko gaane ke lie bahut himmat chahiye, aajkal ke bachche Rafi saheb ka song gaa hi nahin sakte. Rafi saheb ki gayaki mein sirf gayaki hoti thee, aaa ooo nahin. Yeh zulm hoga in contestants ke kahen ke Rafi saheb ka song gaao. Mujhe aaj tak yaad nahin hai koi reality singer jisne Rafi saheb ke song ke saath justice ki ho. I hope they dont sing Rafi saheb song, ghussa aa jaata hai jab unke song ka janazaah nikaal dete yeh log. I am happy to listen Rafi saheb song on CD.

WHY???

Why would a voice like Rafi Saab's ever be thought of in terms less than divine, god-like or hallowed?

Why would someone who could sing an angst -ridden "ye duniya agar mil bhi jaye", and then a soul- piercing "insaan bano" , someone who could do justice to a love anthem like "tumne mujhe dekha" in the same breath as a comical "Sar jo tera chakraye" ever be spoken of in anything other than hushed, awed, revered tones?

Why would an accomplished singer like Asha Bhosle whose meteoric rise to fame began with memorable duets with Rafi Saab like "O bedard zamaane", "Ek pardesi mera dil le Gaya", "accha ji main haari", "bahut shukriya", "deewana hua baadal"...not want to acknowledge the greatness of this awe-inspiring man whose voice could transform the most mundane of songs into extraordinary?

Who could be foolish enough to deny the sublime exquisiteness of his rich, mellifluous tones?

Who could be brave enough to attempt to come anywhere even a million light years close to this man's singing?

If playback singing was an altar, then Rafi Saab would be one of its most worshipped Gods.

I cannot even begin to describe the feelings his voice arouses inside of me when I hear an incredibly romantic "tum jo mil gaye ho", or a carefree "har fikr ko dhuen mein" or a haunting "aaj purani raahon se" or a wickedly teasing "nain lad jayi hai" or a flawless rendition of "'madhuban mein radhika" or a youthfully exuberant "chahe koi mujhe jungle kahe" or a soul-searingly sad "meri kahani bhoolne wale".

Yes, we don't need a Rafi tribute on II.
Not because no one can do justice to his songs, not because its unfashionable to appreciate Rafisaab, not because we don't have a Rafian on the judges panel on II.
But because Tributes are given for people who've passed on.
Rafi Saab lives. His voice lives.
And we don't need two-bit contestants on II to remind us of him.

Like Rafi Saab himself told us through this song..
"Tum mujhe yoon bhula na paoge..
Jab kabhi bhi sunoge geet mere...
Sang Sang tum bhi gungunaoge..."

I came out of my self-imposed exile from IF when I saw the topic of this post on my favorite singer, so thank you OP for making this post and shaking the apathy out of the writer in me. :-)

TSakshi.. WORD to your comments on the so-called Rajesh Khanna tribute! It was a mockery..painful to watch and even more painful to hear.

Rafi saa'b as human being was so great that it reflects in his songs too ;asha ji even ignores her own F in Law SD burman who in my opinion got more talent than his son and who got asha some excellent songs with Rafi saab ..but i feel when sare gama first started they used to do so many Rafi saab songs specially difficult naushad numbers
