TSakshi ji,
I don't know if its our bad luck ot what? Not only Asha ji, I have not seen anybody admiring Rafi sahab on these so called reality shows. India will never ever see or hear a singer of Rafi sahab's class. He was the only one in this universe. We are lucky to enjoy his voice today. No singer will ever achieve that voice softness and modulation.
I think it costs lot of money to bring Pyrelal ji as a guest Judge, LOL. I heard Asha ji charged 5 caror for being a judge last time.

Jas ji, I agree with you, every reality show we see, they are singing Kishore kumar songs or other singers. Nobody sings rafi numbers, very few attempt it. I think this is because they know they cant do justice to his songs. There used to be a show on Sony tv called "Melody". Once people asked Kumar Sanu to sing a rafi song, and his reaction was "baap re baap, rafi sahab,!! marwao ge yaar"

This tells us what gem of a singer he was.

Don't mind my saying so, but its fashionable to be a Kishoreda or a RDB fan nowadays. People who have worked with Rafi Sahab, his producers, actors, directors, composers are all gone or are too old to come and attend these shows. Moreover as I said earlier are these tributes even worth it?

I have seen and read enough interviews of those legends where they just could'nt stop praising Rafi Sahab. Why anybody else, even Manna da is a great Rafian himself. What if Dilip Sahab was in good health and he were to come and talk abt Naushad Sahab and Rafi Sahab...but alas. Dharmendra is still there, but I doubt how musically inclined he might be! Rishi Kapoor was great on some other show.

On 31st July every year, some great or a contemporary conducts an hour long discussion abt Rafi Sahab's greatness and rendition on national TV. There they pour their hearts out. I love to watch that and defo prefer that over a tribute in II.

BTW I myself love Kishoreda too, so no misunderstandings.😊

There should definitely be a Rafi special. With Ashaji there, the whole show is tilted towards her faves (i.e. Kishore and RDB). It's important to give equal respect to the other greats too.

The only problem is that Rafi's songs are really tough and most of these singers won't be able to do them justice.

😊I personally do not want to hear anyone sing rafi saabs songs.😊 On THESE shows .

No one can or has come even come close to his singing.

If they really want to pay a tribute to rafi saab, let them just dedicate one hour of his songs, without a break for ads or those hosts rattling away.

Or the best tribute one can give is not allowing anyone to sing his songs and desecrate his memory .

i feel Asha ji has gotten too much into RD burman kishore Da mode. The truth is that there r 3 people who shaped her destiny--one is she herself the most talented and versatile singer she is(though I only like her 50's and early 60s melodious and beautiful voice most) second is great OP nayyar and SD burman had burman da had not fight with lata mangeshkar and geeta dutt was not so stuck with her personal problems and alcohol SD burman was all set to make Geeta dutt his main singer.OP nayyar had personal reasons to promote Asha ji --he once said he had no reason to promote asha ji over geeta dutt --just said that love is blind though geeta dutt remained OP's favorite singer.
so Asha ji needs to remember that some of her first hits were with mohd Rafi from tum sa nahi dekha and naya daur. then of course some awesome numbers with kishore kumar also with SD burman in nau do gyarah.
hope she gives a good tribute to rafi saab
even Ravi and hemant Kumar gave her some amazing songs to get her a spot then later on she went on to work with changing musical style of RD burman but Asha was a major sensation due to other great music directors much before RD comes in picture.

Did you all watch yesterday's episode? Two Rafi Sahab's immortal numbers and all she had to say was "aapne woh jagah bhi li jo Rafi Sahab ne bhi nahi li" to Devendra. Really? Seriously????🤢

One thing I have always noticed in all these shows is that when ever someone attempts RAfi Sahab songs, they automatically copy him and their timbre becomes soft and very melodious. Then the judges say, wah wah wah, but nobody praises Rafi Sahab.😭 See even yesterday, Vipul was copying Rafi Sahab. Ritesh even said, har ek shabd ko shehd mein ghol ke gaya...something something... Is it so hard to understand that he was simply trying to sing a Rafi song? It was Rafi Sahab's style of singing, nothing else.

If you all can believe this, I have watched such a show where Hariprasad Chaurasiya told a contestant (who was known only for copying any original singers) that "you have sung better than the original singer. Guess which was that song.

It was "tumhare julf ke saaye mein shaam kar lunga"...🤣 Come on, can anybody sing that better that our beloved Rafi Sahab??🤣

And on other ocassions I have seen some of the judges simply ignoring Rafi Sahab. So no complaints even for yesterday. That was expected.🤢

I would be surprised if Asha ji talks with genuine admiration about Rafi Sahab. She may come up with politically correct sentences, but genuine admiration??? Difficult. She has forgotten about one Nayyar Sahab. She hardly ever talks in glowing terms abt Rafi Sahab. All she remembers is RDB and Kishoreda.

My point is if you want to pay tribute to Rafi Sahab, get a Rafian on board. Plenty of them.Pyarelal ji would be a great start. From Asha Tai you can only expect cliched lines. Yup but Annu ji could compensate. He convinced Rafi Sahab to sing for him when he was only 19. And I think Rafi Sahab's second last song is Annu's "lagi lag jaaye logon".

Sorry did not want to write this post but just could'nt control myself.

Very well said, agree 100% with each word of your post.Someone need to pointed out the behaviours and grudges of judges and i am glad you did very well by writing your post 👏

TSakshi ji, I'm glad that we have someone to open up this talk about OP nayyar sahab and Asha ji. Everybody knows that Nayyar sahab was the one who promoted Ashaji when she was not known at all. She used to get playback for grade 3 songs othewise. Nayyar sahab played an important role in her career. She must not forget that. I have never heard her talking about OP Nayyar sahab.

She admires Puncham because she was married to her and its all fair.
O. P. Nayyar gave Asha a break in C.I.D.(1956). She first achieved success in B. R. Chopra's Naya Daur (1957), composed by him. Her duets with Rafi like "Maang Ke Saath Tumhara", "Saathi Haath Badhana" and "Uden Jab Jab Zulfein Teri", penned by Sahir Ludhianvi, earned her recognition. It was the first time she sang all the songs for a film's leading actress. Chopra approached her for several of his later prosuctions, including Gumrah(1963), Waqt (1965), Hamraaz (1965), Aadmi Aur Insaan(1966) and Dhund (1973). Nayyar's future collaboration with Bhosle also resulted in success. Gradually, she established her status and received the patronage of such composers as Sachin Dev Burman and Ravi. Asha Bhosle and Nayyar had a professional and personal parting of ways in the 1970s.
I haven't written this post to offend anyone or to insult Asha ji. These are the hard facts. I mean to say is that we must not forget our roots and someone's good deeds and favours.

Thanks for penned down the facts ,love your post

I agree with you"ll totally.
Now a days its like praising Rafi Saab is considered a sin or a crime.
Cause when Jeetuji. who seems to be a real ardent fan of Rafi saab wanted to praise Rafi saab had to say Rafi saab bhi achchha gaate the.
Why the hell they do have guts tocome out with what the fact which is
Rafi sirf achchha nahin gaate the, Rafi saab sab se achchha gaate the.
If he was not the best singer, do you think, he would have survived for more than 2 decades
competing with BOTH the MANGESHKAR sisters.
I think we all rafi saabs friend should get together on his facebook page.
I do not know who is pdating it, but his ardent fan Sonu is active on it.
That is a bigger platform to come out in favour of Rafi Saab.

Go Rafi Saab fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
