Avdhesh was in deep shock still the moment he heard the news, he was unable to understand why he was feeling so bad, why the news hurt him so badly, he just know one thing he can't face Arpita in this situation, what if she recognize his feelings, what will he tell her if she ask the reason for his restlessness, and top of all Pihu and Professor want him to ask her for marry some one, why it hurts him so much, if they are expecting it from him, he should do it without any problem even with pleasure , he can't forget her father's favor's for him.
Avdhesh spend many days in this dilemma, finally he took a decision and gathered all courage to face Arpita . He took his cycle and reached at Professor's home. It was a Sunday noon, hot summer's Sunday noon, when he entered the house Dr. Shukla was sitting in drawing room he was in deep thought, looking like thinking about some serious matter, he didn't noticed Avdhesh's arrival, when Avdhesh touched his feet he came back to real world.
Avdhesh-"Sir are you Ok? Looking very worried! Is there any thing wrong?"
Dr.Shukla-"Nothing is right Avdhesh, where were you all these days?"
Avdhesh-"What happened sir, I am really sorry for sudden absence, I wasâŚ" Avdhesh was searching some reason to hide his real state of dilemma.
Dr. Shukla-"Its ok Avdhesh I can understand, you have your own life. Your own problems, but fact is want ever happening is all my fault, (tears came in to his eyes) Avdhesh beta help me out, Arpita ko samjhao! (convence Arpita)"
Avdhesh was shocked to see his ideal crying in front of him , like a child he hugged him to console him.
Avdhesh-"Sir don't worry everything will be all right and it will be as you want, is there any problem with Arpita? She had done any thing wrong I will ask her, where is she?"
Dr, Shukla-" As I told you Avdhesh, fault is mine, I was impatient I want to ask you for the guy I choose for her, but when you were not here I told her about the guy and she was furious at me, she fights with me, she think I don't love her that's why I want her to marry some one out of this town, now you tell me Avdhesh which father want his daughter to be a life long spinster, she is hurting her self Avdhesh, she didn't had any thing from last five days, and not she rests for a moment, you were not here I am so worried for her just look at her she is looking so weak."
Avdhsh's soul was shaken to hear that Arpita didn't have any thing from five days.-"where is she right now?"
Dr, Shukla-"in garage, Pihu is there too, she is trying her laval best to make her to eat some thing but she is not listening to her al so, see in this heat she is fighting with motor machinery of old car, just to cause her self trouble."
His sobs and words make him to run toward garage, and as Dr. Shukla said Arpita was there she was doing something in open bonnet, she was wearing black cotton saree, with red border, Avdhesh stands next to her resting by car-"So Miss Arpita Shukla is Motor engineer now haan,( Arpi glared at him with anger and again get busy with engine) Oooh what a killing look but all waste at me, m not going to scared by it ok so now just stop your drama and come with me have something, Pihu aaj khane me kya banya hai? (what's in lunch)
Pihu-"Aloo ki sabji or Puri" (potato curry and Poori as I don't know what to call Poori in English hehe)
Arpita give her an angry look and she just stopped her words at once,
Avdhesh-"oh why are you scaring the poor girl, I am here naa take out your frustration at me I m here come on say it to me naa come on Arpi.."
His words make her angrier and she injured her finger in engine as her concentration was not there, Avdhesh saw it and it hurt him more then it hurts her. Her face was expressionless while pain was visible in his eyes he holds her hand immediately and drags her forcefully to her room while she was resisting to go with him.
Arpita-"leave me Avdhesh! Just leave me; I don't want any fake concern."
Avdhesh make her to sit on bed, her words hurt him this time but he hides it -"Ok baba I get it I m Avdhesh not Avi naa and I m showing fake concern naa so let me act for some more days OK after that I will not get chance to do it naa, as you will be away from us."
This time he got success in his task, he made her to cry, to burst out.
Arpita-"yes you are fake, and you are nothing to me, you are not my Avi anymore if you were my Avi you would be there with me that time when Papa was asking me for some foolish guy, You would support me, but no you are with them na Pihu told it you that night, but instead of telling me and helping me to convince Papa for not committing such foolishness, Leave me Avdhesh, I get it and you are right I am just guest here for few days, and don't worry about me now I am nothing to you and this house ."
Avdhesh-there were tears in his eyes â"Yeah you are right I am nothing to you and this house and after your marriage ⌠let it be I am happy for you I saw his picture he was looking nice guy, he will take good care of yours, you will be happy with him." He was smiling but tears were visible in his eyes.
Arpita-"why Avi why are you doing this to me? How can you think some thing like that, when Papa told you about all this why didn't you resist? Why didn't you tell him that I can't marry any one? I can't leave this house this family, my life, and you."
Arpita's eyes were full of pleading questions, and Avdhesh has no reply for them, but he find few questions to reply her-"why Arpi? Why can't you marry anyone? Everygirl has to marry one day , every girl has to leave her home, her family one day, its your turn Arpita now you have to learn this too, to live without us , to live without caring about us about me. Your Papa trusted me to convince you for this wedding, don't let me down Arpi, 'Meri aakhri baat maan lo' I will not ask you anything after this I promise you" He said with a bit of command as he knows that she would not show him down in front of anyone even if its matter of her life.
Arpi-wiped her tears roughly "so you mean to say that you too want me to marry him?"
Avi-"Huun"he doesn't know why but he can't say Yes to her simple question.
Arpi-"OK then go and tell your Sir that I will do what Avdhesh wants does not matter whether I can live after that or not."
Her words hit him hardly but he can't react in front of her. He just smiled and step toward her, wiped her tear lightly-"silly girl you will thank me one day for this, I know you will." And he left the room in hurry as he was unable to control his own emotions which was about to pour out from eyes as tears.
For next few days Avdhesh was locked in his room, he can't think about anything except Arpita, every time he think about her he want to see her but at the same time Dr Shukla's face appear in front of him â"No Avdhesh you hardly convinced Arpi for marriage , Sir has chosen the right one for her and am sure he will take care of her more then anyone in whole world that's why he want her to marry him naa" every time Avdhesh think about Arpi her sad face appear in front on him and it make him more restless, after few days he decided to face Arpi and he came to visit her home. Arpita was working in kitchen so Avdhesh sit in drawing room like all guests suppose to do. Pihu came with tea and some snacks .
Avdhesh-"Oh Pihu how are you? What happened! You are bringing tea and all, don't tell me that queen Arpita is treating you as her slave after me, is she still mad on me?"
Avdhesh tried to hide his own sadness and desire to see Arpita he was expecting Arpita to storm in at any moment after Pihu as she always did if he call her queen and anything else except Arpi, but this time it didn't work. Instead Pihu placed the tray on table and looked at him with strange questioning eyes, -"What have you done to her?"
Avi-"what have I done? What are you saying Pihu? Is she fine? Where is she?"
Pihu-"she is fine , It seems so! But she is not that Arpita which she was. You know she is so calm, some times its hard to find whether she is in the same room or not, she forget to talk, to smile, only thing she remember is she is guest here for few days, she want everything to be as it is after her marriage, some times her words scares me she talk like she is not getting married as she is dying, what have you done with her?" tears came in her eyes and she run out of room.
Avdhesh's nightmare is turning true, Arpita is not well he have to do something, to make her feel as nothing is going to change even after her marriage.
He came to kitchen , earlier he never entered this part of house as he was Kapoor and it's a Brahman's kitchen so he was not allowed by the Maharajin( Old female cook of house) to step in kitchen, but today even she didn't stop him from coming in as she too want's Arpita to smile and alive as she was always, and she knows very well Avdhesh and Arpita's relations,
Avi- "Arpi what are you doing here? I was waiting for you in your room. Come I need your help."
Arpi-"leave me Avdhesh, I am busy right now, and what are you doing here, you should not be here, she will scold you and I don't want it. Wait in my room m coming." Arpita replied without any expression. And he decides to follow her instructions.
After few minutes Arpita came in her room Avi and Pihu was already there,
Arpi-"yes Avdhesh, you were asking for some help how can I help you, I mean I m not intelligent like you, you can help your self better then me." She said plainly without looking at him and get busy in arranging her room.
Avi-"Ya ya I know it , but when it come to teasing someone I can't do it without your suggestions naa,"
Arpi-"Oh so you find my substitute haan? Great I never thought you would be so fast! Well how is the poor gal?"
Avi was not expecting that she will take it this way-"No Arpi, no one can take your place I was talking about Pihu she said she is fine here so I was thinking to make it memorable for her before she can leave us."
Arpi looked at Pihu and then at Avi she can see their sad faces she smiled a bit and sit on her bed next to Avi-"stop lying now Avi, you know you are really bad in it. And you Miss Pihu why are you standing like someone punished you. Come here, I know he didn't take anything till now so bring nice milky tea for us including you.
Avi and pihu was relieved to here her voice as normal but she was doing it to make them relieved. They sit together and talked for long hours, Avi and Pihu was happy to see her smiling but she was aware of Avi's sadness â"Avi m ok now, you don't need to bother about me , live your life as you want, Hey you told me about Pammi naa how is she?"
Avi-"don't know I didn't visit her from a long time."
Arpi-"you told me how painful her life is you should not leave her like this she needs a friend, go to her, you will feel good to help her. "
Avi don't want to go but as she said to help, he thought Arpi will feel good if he show everything normal and visit someone as usually he done. Avdhesh visit Pammi and this time she express her desire for movie and Avdhesh can't deny her. Arpi forced him to take her father's car with him so he can pick Pammi with him.
While returning from theatre it was late night, Avdhesh's mind was still filled with Arpi, when he felt some silk on his face; it was Pammi's scarf which she was untying from her shirts collar.
Pammi-"Uh what a day! Thank you Avdhesh it seems like after ages m living, this calmness of night, this moon light everything seems so beautiful, hey if you don't mind can you plz take me to river side, I haven't seen it in moon light since my husband left me alone." Her face turns dull when she mentioned about her husband. Avdhesh thought to cheer her up and he drove down to bank of Ganga,
Pammi get down from the car, she was looking beautiful in that moonlight her pink skin was shinning in full moon light, she sit on bonnet next to Avi, Avi felt a bit uncomfortable by her gesture, as she rest her head on his shoulder,
Pammi-Avdhesh, movie was nice naa, you know usually people don't like movies which have clear confession of love by female leads in movies, but I like these movies even I feel it should happen in real life also. What do you think?"
Avi was not orthodox but he was not feeling well the way she was behaving right now. He just wants to go back now. "huun,"
Pammi-"just 'Huun' Avi where are you? I am talking to you, I saw you were not liking the romantic scenes too, do you feel girl and boy relations , friendship , are violation Indian culture, I feel there should be distance between them, that's it. Look we are friends and we know how to make distance between us naa, see If I am this much close to you (she came in front of him and hold his face, close to hers, her breaths were striking his face, she can see something was in her eyes when she was looking strait in his eyes. For few seconds it seemed to Avi as her lips will touch his.) but we both are still pure naa, and if we cover this bit of distance then how can we violate our relation.(she left Avi's face but still she was standing close to him, Her recent action made Avi a bit uneasy, he broke his silence-"Pammi you are right, but I think its too late, we should get back now, come I will drop you first, after that I have to return the car too, I don't want them to wake late for me."
Avi quickly get back to his driving seat and starts the car, even before Pammi can sit properly. As He was in rush, He drop Pammi without a word and reached at Dr. Shukla's place, he dropped the car at garage and want to see Arpi but as its late night he though not to disturb her.
Avdhesh was about to close the main gait when he noticed Pihu in balcony she was calling him. He came back under balcony ,
Avi-"Pihu! You are awaked! I thought you all must be sleeping by now."
Pihu-"How can we sleep without inquiring about your movie. Just come in Arpi di's room we are waiting for you."
Avi-"What Arpi is not sleeping!" Avi felt like rush to Arpi but he can't run at this hour of night he don't want to awake everyone. When he reached at her room she was sitting on bed, Pihu was sitting next to her on other side of bed. Avi sit on chair net to her.
Arpi-"Avi how was your Moive? Did you enjoy with Pammi?"
Avi didn't felt like answering her but he can't, he was gazing at ground â"it was good"
Arpi-"If it was good then why are you looking so worried, Avi are you fine?"
Avdhesh can't hide his feelings now, he came to knees , hold Arpi's legs in hug, placed his head in her lap, he was breathing very unevenly, he closed his eyes and dug his face in her lap.
Arpi-"Avi what happened? Is everything alright? Speak to me Avi, why are you behaving like this, why are you looking so sad."
Avi-"Arpi⌠don't say anything, just let me rest some time, I want to feel safe for some time, I don't know what happened and what's going to happen, all I know that its all were not right. It should not be happened."
