I so totally agree with my Chotu Govinda Aditi that ..Rano the protagonist of ek chadar maili si and Mangal were a far more gripping and complex story and Rano actually raised him as a child. If you do get a chance see the movie ,where she in happpy times jokes with her devar that she even made him learn to wipe his nose and wear his clothes when he cracks a joke with her.For me this grittiness was lacking in Gulaal.Though the show was excellent but by far there were certain loopholes which always remained unacceptable to me,Like all of a sudden Gulaal's ultimate hard heartedness and aloofness. For me if she did the DV she shud have been ready to explain Kesar everything.

Agreed that Rano was far more gripping and bold for me than the HOLIER THAN THOU Gulaal coz my heart never was able to cry for Gulaal. She was a bit unrealistic for me.Too much liberty for a bahu if we consider a village scenario. It was absolutely unrealistic!I seriously am looking forward to an update desperately coz knowing you it would be nothing less than a masterpiece.

haila sachi u agree... i thought i m such a disagreeable tune that everyone will throw mojiri at me😉 but seriously i wanted gulaal to be bit more realistic like rano like seriously gulaal was only 10 year old to kesar and moreover kesar was send for the higher studies he returned after 10 years but gulaal remained the holier cold hearted one... gulaal never ever had any chii ki bhavna for him though as a kid she spent only few months
on the other hand rano was 13 year older and she had seen mangal raising before her...she saw him from a baby who use to play with her duppatta and suck his thumb... to the naughty kid and teen who always hide behind rano and rano save him from his brother and mother... to a duanty boy who fearlessly stood before rano to save her from his family... to a man who married her...how difficult must be for rano to except him as her husband but still she excepted her fate..and ofcourse she didnt needed any permission for her in laws or her ghost husband 😉...there was lots of UST between them and though rano shut herself up but still she was jealous wen other woman use to flirt with him and attracted to him which was solely missing in gulaal
and where gulaal thought for talli and only talli rano thought for her family her kids and mangal...she knew becoz of her... mangal turned into a heavy drunker and he was falling into the bad company (same as kesar who was hopelessly falling in love yet deniying his complicated realtionship... so in order to save him and her kids (as if mangal fall into company of bad woman her family would be ruined she and her kids would be thrown out of the house ) she physically surrender herself to mangal but what she didnt knew her surrender led to the unison of two lovely soul who were made to love each other and after living into a loveless marriage she finally found her true soulmate who was always present with her
basically with mangal she attained all the phase of womanhood
and then she stood as an extraoridnary woman wen she dared to marry off her daughter to the person who killed her husband.it was her way of repentance and pay homage to her husband so that his deeds are forgiven and he rest in peace...
and see what we had in gulaal a foolish gulaal who forgive dushyant and hide the secret from her family just to pursue a stupid dream pursual of dream is important but at what stake and an lunatic mentor who instead of teaching talli science and abc taught to become an annoying irritating street hutch puppy 🤢
and then we have motabha he was one sensible man he was sensing growing attraction of kesar for gulaal then y didnt he broke the deeyarvattu long long ago y he chose to remain silent and be an ostrich wen he was embarrassed at many occassions wen his son use to ask him stupid question y cant he simply break the deeyarvattu tell his son ok sweety it was one big april fool month now back to be normal gulaal is your bhabhi and your friend nothing else dude...sachi y he remained so questionable wen he was sarpanch of the village
and then there were so many fillers like talli kulli raman and sudha romance duggu (wasted badly in the show) PB turning into wicked one and gigaka commiting suicide becoz he cant bear sura and kulli romance sachi me so was on his side if kulli and sura romance continued for some more time even i would have jumped from talsagra river
so basically i adore gulaal but ek chaddar definetly wins my heart😳

sorry aditi i made your post into one anti gulaal post but i cant miss an oppurtunity to discuss about my all time fav novel
and me bhagging plz meri mojiri tum kha lena 😉

@Chotu govinda👏

Who said Talli was a filler😲GULAAL AND KESU WERE FILLERS😆

Anyways jokes apart but the character of Gulaal was bit unrealistic for me.It was beacause there was no growth in her .A very adament. The problem with her characterisation was that she stuck to her past very badly and Cv's instead of trying to explore her feelings ,they wasted time on TALLI😡Even Dushy-Gulaal relation had so much to be explored but they left everything on Talli.Rano for me has actually been very close and you hae brilliantly said whatever was there in my heart regarding this.

Well sometimes I feel CV's in their attempt to justify the morality issue so much actually were a little scared to explore the changing dynamics of Gulaal. So they made her this adament vintage Gulaal who rants paap and stood like a pure goddess in front of ghosty's potrait. It would have been really a treat to watch the subtle changes in Gulaal too.Her feelings were actually left unexplored. Also Kesar-Gulaal block of communication was undigestable after a certain point😕But no CV's wanted us to love Talli as the way Gullu lubbed her😆

Choory Aditi for spamming your thread but with this SS you hae infused in me a whole new excitement to talk about lots of things. So maaf kar de *kaan pakading *

exactly she appeared like an old hindi horror bhoonti to me always holding diyaa in her hand and singing
kanhi deep jaale kanhi dil jaraa dekh le aakar parwaane

and as u said cv was so scared to explore her feeling my point is then y do kabda of such a beautiful story i love mansi i love neil and i love DOP nahi to in cv k mein baand baja deti

but still whatever they showed is far brilliant than whatever crap story is shown in other shows

aditi hume dhakke maar kar is post se nikal do mere andar k spamming queen cheek cheek kar raaz style mein kah rahi hai... "jaag chuki hun mein"...

growing up pains so familiar yet so uniquely different

Clock stuck 11.00pm increasing Gulaal's anxiety manifold, all her anger from the afternoon having read a note from Kesar's School Headmaster already thing of past, Worried and fearful about his whereabouts at this late hour, she decided to go and look out for him, overruling MB's order forbidding the same'..

Having searched all the known hideouts, her heartbeats were rising steadily with each failure, It was unlike Kesar not to come and seek answers to his questions, in all of last two years of knowing him this was the first time where he had decided to keep what happened in the school to himself, "Kaha ho tum Kesar, Hey bhagwaan mere Kesar ki raksha karna, main tumhare har sawal ka jawab dene ke tayar hu Kesar bus ghar wapas aa jao jaldi se"

This was only a wishful thinking from my end in the whole show. That for once she could explain her stand to everyone, her reasoning whether right or wrong may at least given others a chance to empathise with her condition instead of the fabulous showdown that the family had with her in the end. As for explaining to Kesar, as per her convenience she decided to treat him as a kid when the situation demanded otherwise. Gulaal portrayed wise for her age should have realised that Kesar was no more a kid, he was already asking questions that any child entering adolescence would be posing. Having known him well even in that short span of life, she should have known his inquisitiveness about having a wife back home, or the significance of such a marriage in the young impressionable mind. Today we call it Counseling if we educate children about any such thing. It was Gulaal's duty to have explained to him or atleast let Motaba handle him.
In the show I was a little amused as to how a family did not probe further into Kesar's decision of not returning home for 10 long years and what made Gulaal write to him in spite of his behavior.Even after his return, they did not take time out to ask him even if he remembered being married at 12. They expected him to perform the Shivlinga puja with Gulaal, his ardhangini onto his right and within days expect him to not raise a question about it and get married to Talli because Gulaal deemed it fit. So was that a mockery of one's belief in God or the DV that happened

Knowing Gulaal will not take kindly to his skirmish in the school and all his questions will meet the same fate as his past queries, he was hell bent on buying time away to reflect on all those inner turmoil that he had been experiencing off late which started from innocent remark from his classmate about having a beautiful wife anxiously awaiting his return from School, what did he really mean, and why did that other fellow smiled as if there was more to this remark and why did MB wanted him to move into a separate room now,He always slept with Gulaal since the day Vasant bha left both of them and went away never to return, Why did Gulaal get angry at his remark to Talli about not walking into their room unannounced, he has never been shy of changing clothes in front of Gulaal but that did not mean same rule applied to Talli, after all Gulaal was his wife, that's what everyone says right'..

Children in such growing up phase feel shy about changing even in front of their mothers leave aside siblings or friends. And here he was shown to be comfortable with Gulaal. Moreover the rule about feeling comfortable in front of ones wife did not apply to Kesar Gulaal at this juncture. I hope Im interpreting the last line right. Did you mean Kesar told Talli that the same rule as Gulaal did not apply to her because Gulaal was his wife and Gulaal got angry over his remark??
Nice start Aditi.
Would love to read how it progresses from here. Interested to see how you take it from here. Like Arti pointed out, I had watched the movie Ek Chadar Maili Si. I have to say that it was Hema Malini's best performance far away from her Dream Girl image.
I could appreciate Rano's resolve. I am honest when I say I was happy it was fiction. I have had conflicting emotions knowing , reading or seeing the plight of Rano. Being an independant woman myself, I may come up with one hundred solutions for Rano or Gulaal. But it is about understanding Rano or Gulaal, their circumstances and the community they belonged to. They were pushed to abide by this ritual leaving them with no choice, I would say I can empathise with their situation but I am happy Rano could find happiness once again in her life. Its about accepting life's challenges with grace and finding positivity in life.
Agree with Arti about the "divine" intervention. That was so not needed. It has to be Gulaal's personal choice for whatever reasons to be convinced of Kesar's love, to accept or reject him and shun him from her life. It is certainly not wrong to seek happiness once again in your life.
Like Piu says I couldn't entirely relate to Gulaal and especially for how she treated Kesar. She did treat him like she was being alert of a womaniser. Agree she was shocked and disapponted by the turn of events, but she could never ever come up with a convincing explanation as to why his love or feelings was 'paap'. If the community had found this 'paap" there wouldnt be such a ritual being practiced. If Paanba found ths "paap', there wouldnt be Vasant or Kesar. But I did sympathise with her for feeling violated because she felt Kesar is trying to take Vasant's place in her heart. She just had to realise that Kesar wasnt expecting that ever but was only seeking and winning back his own exclusive space in her heart/life.

Aditi,
I would prefer to respond next may be when the story moves a little further. I understand the time constraints that you have. All of us do. So may be for two topics together, I shall. Good luck to handle this sensitive topic very maturely. So far its been really good.

Arti,Piyu and Ganga thanks for your discussion over Rano and Gulaal, I did watch Ek Chadar Maili Se ages ago, actually it make sense to watch it now cause I will be able to understand it better

In my opinion the biggest difference between Rano and Gulaal is ability to accept one's own changing feelings and not shying away from these, you are entitled to have those inclinations, desires, leanings ,you are human after all and there is nothing wrong in being that,Rano was projected as self-aware, complete in peace with her feelings and compromises and still finding positivity in what life had to offer whereas Gulaal always lived in her past for her, her husband existed with her and any feelings that she developed for Kesar had to be shunned in name of her unwavering devotion towards that promise she made to her husband and her inability to provide that inner road to her heart for anyone else even if was not in spite of but in co-existence with her past.

The way the show projected her commitment to her husband was not incorrect but her inability to differentiate between Dushyant's lust and Kesar's love was just unacceptable, She just treated Kesar so indifferently after he confessed his love for her, yes he was away for last 10 years and yes she didn't know him or changes in him but still she wanted him to execute her promise of marrying Talli, itna trust tha us per ke she wanted a gal who she was so closed to cause she grew up in front of her eyes and who actually filled the space created by Kesar's departure partially ten why couldn't trust his feelings for her and after reading those letters where he had poured his heart out,she must really be stone not to be affected by what he had written there his anguish of 10 years, his knowledge of that secret and his unwavering trust in her inspite of the secret…

Anyways will try and explore through this alternate journey what could have been her state of mind when he was there throughout those 10 years, and his changing feelings for someone who he looked up to, to someone he fell in love with, don't be shy of expressing your opinions/views Piyu and Arti cause I don't think it's spam,It's great to see this different opinions and stands cause that's what forums are for don't call it spam cause it's definitely not that…

Very well said Ganga and Aditi👏.I too had lots of problems with the characterisation of Gulaal ,coz for me it was very unrealistic and I still sometimes have this feeling that since they wanted to so justify it on the basis of morality so the CV's might have actually created a vintage Gulaal with her utter devotion to Vasant unrealistically setting herself on a very high pedestal.

Aditi I really beg to disagree on the fact that though her devotion to her husband was not totally incorrect yet that growth in her character was lacking. After all we are human beings ,no matter how much we try we cannot always be morally correct. So her character did not gel with me thoroughly.Though I absolutely understand her predicament to complete submit herself to her dead husband and his dreams yet as Ganga said her utter disgust with Kesar bothered me more.

Also her unconditional devotion to Talli was hard to digest when she actually justified Talli's love as pure while Kesar's as paap and naadani. Now koi gullu mata ko ye batayega ki just because he is a boy his love can be termed as lust😕Completely unrealistic.

Also they somehow badly butchered Kesar's madness in showing his higest level of devotion.I can understand his selflessness was a part of growth of his character but still his USP was badly butchered and they turned him into a sacrifical lamb.

Gawwwd I donno what am I talking

Aditi.🤗..It was really a touching update...Kesar's confused mind state and I liked here it is Kesar who asked to send him to the boarding ...but still he expects Gulaal to stop him...and as Mini said his extending of hand towards her to help her get up holds so much significance...really well done Aditi👏

Now my only problem is I have no any idea that how does Ali look as a 14 year old boy..so I am trying to imagine a young Neil😆

I too wanted to say a lot but I am controlling my self and intentionally keeping away from these discussions or else I would get provocated😆
